The Udjat (omg how is this word spelt? ) eye brings something special into the design, because only the Ankh would have been so... *normal* I like the Udjat eye inside the ankh

Thanks Originally there were heiroglyphs in the lower part of the ankh, but I got rid of them because they didn't mean much, and it would have meant more time getting jabbed with needles

O.k. ... meanwhile I consider my left outer hip area near the hip bone as a good position for a tattoo And it will be very likely a dragon...and for this I simply quote uklfc: "The dragon is a very important creature to me, not only being my favourite, but also the aura of strength and protection that surrounds it. It keeps me safe, and looks after me." ;D But my designs are still unsatisfying...and I still don't know a tattoo artist to whom I wanna go. I spoke with my mother and miraculously she wasn't as shocked as I expected...perhaps I also have the opportunity getting my tattoo for Christmas, someday, harhar.

Okay, so this thread hasn't seen light in 2 years. Why not give it a shot! I think tattoos really depend on two things: the person and the artist chosen. Those really go hand in hand. Personally, I think tattoos can be very sexy on men if well chosen and well placed. And I know that what one soul finds bliss worthy and meaningful may be giggled at by others. To each his/her own. As for myself I have, technically, 4 tattoos. One in particular I know people laugh at. That is fine by me, as I made the decision based on my feelings and not theirs. But each one that I have now and may have in the future reflect an important part of my life and I regret not a single dot of ink! But I also put up to a year of thought and reassurance in before even making an appt. My absolute favorite is one that I designed in detail myself. Now, although I can't draw to save my life, there have been slight moments of artistic shock. I doodled the simple image of a sword and vines I thought would make a great cover to one of my stories and after carrying it around for a few years thought, YES! This is perfectly me! I went to a trusted studio and worked with the artist to balance it out and chose the colors. Two months later I went back and have loved it ever since:

The text came about a year later. It means "Thank you for the poison" which to me is a version of the saying "that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger." So to say that all of the mean spirited people I've had to endure have made me a stronger person.

Thanks for reviving the thread Crystiannia! I was wondering why a "Tattoo" thread popped up all of a sudden and why I've never heard from but a few members who posted on it until this page! Very lovely tattoo, I love the meaning behind it as well! Personally designed tattoos are really the only ones I have an interest for. They can be elaborate, they can be simple, they can be done by a brilliant tattoo-artist, or they can be done by the individual with a home-made tattoo-gun. As long as it is something empowering and meaningful to the individual I am all for it! I get tired of the over-use of tattoos and piercings as a supposed means of expression when a lot of the people I have seen don't use anything unique or that is from themselves. But I guess it keeps wonderful tattoo-artists in business so I wont complain! On my end I have no tattoos (or piercings or really any body art for that matter), and wonder if I will ever get one. The only one I would probably ever consider getting would be a personal interpretation of Yggdrasil done in Celtic knotwork, with my Bindrune right in the middle, but even then I am not too sure about that. Part of me likes having no tattoos, and the other part of me would like one or two. The former will probably win out, but perhaps once I start drawing again my mind will change, we will see.

Bartbär: I was 14 years thinking about a tattoo, thinking too much in the future, things like "what about if in the future I don't like my tattoos?" and things like that, and started to think in another way, when I'll be an old woman, I will see my tattoos and will remember that happy time I lived, and it would be great, at least for me Here you can see my little guys , I talked about one of them last year, I know I didn't design it, but I'm really happy with my tattoos, I think that's the important, be happy with your tattoos, no matter what people say. I'm thinking to add some flames around the shamans, so, it's not finished

Exactly, I should have elaborated on that more as well: It isn't a big deal if you aren't the sole designer of the tattoo, but as long as you have a connection with the work you are using. Obviously these are wonderful tattoos, of which I think everyone here will approve! I just wish my artistic streak was going on right now, I miss drawing and coming up with ideas for visual stimuli, but it comes and goes, more gone than here sadly. That is a good point as well, and I have thought about that too. WOuld be nice to have something with you your whole life that you can look at and be reminded of all the times you have connected with it. The human mind is fabulous, it may seem odd how something as "simple" as a tattoo or the like can bring back tons of memories. We need only to recall the simple yet infinite connection that a small detail has within the larger picture. To this day we can all smell that certain smell, taste that certain taste, etc. and be brought back to years and years before when we first encountered it, or when we associated it with a very important time in our life. Tattoos are just one of the many things that are very powerful for sensory recall.

Ah Tyulusse! They came out so nice! Definately something that you can look back on and smile with such great memories!
I think some go a little far with the tattoos and peircings, but to each his/her own. Whatever makes them happy if they are willing to live with it. But sometimes moderation can make a world of difference.

I think I'm going to make a tatoo, when I grow up of course. I was thinking about Szczerbiec-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szczerbiec-Polish sword used at the coronations of kings, along the spine. Of course it needs to be thought.

I did some drawing for friends, who thought of getting a tattoo, earlier, but since I am afraid of needles, I was not sure, if I ever want to get one... Once, I saw a girl and she had a wing-shaped tattoo in her back, like angel wings. I thought about maybe getting one like this some day, but then I always thought, that I might not like it anymore one day and then I would have this huge artwork on my body... so... I don't know... I dislike that idea somehow... Once I drew a celtic cross with some spiral lines around it for my best friend... She didn't use it after all, but maybe I will, someday - I made it by myself, so it even has an emotional meaning, since it took days to get it right.

marduk: That looks like it could be quite amazing! nicorla: The Celtic cross would be so intricate, and especially doing the artwork yourself, how bonding is that! Such a loss for your friend! I have had a tattoo planned, but I've yet to meet the requirements. It will be a gift to myself once I complete several goals. When those have been done, I am finally going to get my rune tattoo, as I feel I need to earn that one! Also, although I can see clearly in my mind's eye what I want it to look like, I can not draw it out and thus am not sure how to explain to the artist! It would probably be fairly large, to go along my side. It should look as if the runes are being cast and the ones that pertain to me personally would be highlighted in a bolder color -- blue perhaps, as that is my favorite -- and maybe some emerald green. But try as I might I can not sketch out the image to even get a basic idea across. Granted, I have some time but I don't think my drawing skills are going to pick up much! I need someone familar with the runes and norse art to pop inside my head and transfer the image for me! LOL!
