@bjärnimund: it's hard to explain as I don't tend to listen to those music, and if I ever hear this kind of music I never try to remember who's it was. Maybe an example could be of the band HIM. Most of their songs are far overdone. Those are often melodramatic in music and in lyrics. I'm sure that Ville Valo is a devoted musician and he has a good voice, but this type of songs I personally don't like. Commercial made pop music is often far worse. There usually is no thrive for anything besides money and fame. It's all about looks and it's very superficial, and there seems to be no passion for music. Watch the Eurovision songfestival, and you see a lot of the same. In the Netherlands we have a kind of music that's called 'smartlap' (tearjerker), awful, disgusting. I just remember one of the most horrible songs I ever heard, it's an American song I think, it's called D.I.V.O.R.C.E. if I remember correctly. 'The sins of thy beloved' have also a song that very melo, it's called 'All alone'. I don't know much pop music. My music comes usually from friends, from internet etc. Often I read something about a band and try to find samples to listen to. Or someone recommends me music. I hardly ever listen to the radio and I haven't seen television for one and a half year now (except for some video's), I just don't have the time for it. Don't think I miss much.
I hope I made myself clear, it's hard to explain. Btw I'm not trying to offend someone, it's only about my own taste.

I see what you mean, don't worry. Though I am unfamiliar with any actual songs of such things like HIM..I only have heard of it. I had to ask someone once what Ville Valo was and they looked at me as if I was 80. My music usually ends up coming from either friends or random google searches. I searched shaman in google images and found Korpiklaani.

You've probably checked some of my older postings there, because I bought that album already some time ago and I don't actually even have it anymore; it was quite ok of course, but nothing so special that I could have kept that any longer. EDIT: Heh, I've written that posting in 29.4.2004.

When it comes to speed metal, I'd say Gamma Ray,Persuader,Stormwarrior,Helloween,Heavenly are the best.

Speed Metal is cool. I adore Blind Guardian. As far as Thrash Metal is concerned I'd prefer Metallica and Kreator.

Does the term"folk"include Elven King? Because it's power/speed metal with folk instruments.

I have to admit that I also like good thrash sometimes, like Kreator, Amoral or Testament.
Actually I'm right now listening to Kreator - Pandemonium ;D
Speed metal...well sometimes, only when I'm in the mood...

Oh,yeah! And what to you guys think about the new Soilwork album?I think they're heading straight to become a mall-core band. Well the new Soilwork is a great album, but not a Soilwork album (my personal fav is Natural Born Chaos...because my fav singer, Devin Townsend was the producer, and he did a great job). Stabbing The Drama is more like a metalcore stuff. The Difference between Stabbing and Figure no.5 is like the difference between In Flames's Reroute To Remain and Soundtrack To Your Escape, if u know what I mean. I think the songs of Stabbing are great, but listening to it for long it's just boring, like other metalcore bands. These stuffs are for concerts, not for listening at home. Typical 'Stabbing The Drama' song structure: Hard rif; break; hard riff back; some lyrics; majestic chorus, with losts of clear vox; hard riff back again; lyrics; majestic chorus again; some solo; quiet part; hard riff till the end... that's all

I sure do! I've listened to Evil is forever a million times already. Space Odyessy is also an excellent band. Looks like here aren't that many speed-power fans.
