I visited a folk/dance festival in a very small town, about an hour from here. It was the 40th time this was organized. Really impressive, I'll go again next year. Every year different bands. I'd read something about Throat singing and ritual dance. I wasn't dissapointed. But in their own way all groups were great! Ergyron (the group I went to see) and this man wore a great outfit! and this one too, very friendly guy, but hardly spoke any English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish or whatever. My Russian was too bad, I could only tell him I liked their music and dance, but I tried to ask if I could buy a cd of their music, very great music, but unfortunately he didn't understand. another Russian group, traditional breakdance ;D On my website are more (colourfull) pictures of this event. website: www.feelfreefoto.nl/series.aspthe first item Hard to take those pictures. There were thousands of people, official opening night. There were also a lot of dignitaries and I had to crawl around on my knees to prevent standing in someone's sight. It was also very dark, that means that it's difficult to take pictures with movement, and dancing without moving...didn't see it there ;D For the south American folks here, there was a great Brasilian group and a great Argentinian one. The Lithuanian dance remembered me a lot of the traditional dance from the hunting song video.

Hey, great pics Twi, thanks very much for thinking on me ;D!!! But well, I don't smoke, but if this the new metal way to light a cigarrette, I'll promise I'll turn a techno fan! Being lighted by a member of ZZ Top with a torch trying to save your hair from crematory! And what do you tell about the face of the fat guy? I'm not sure he doesn't want to eat the torch!!!! Now Carlinhos Brown, from Brazil... I don't like him, anyway, but maybe somebody does!

Yesterday we went to see Rapalje again (8th time). A Celtic folk band from our neighbourhood, although they don’t play here that often anymore (too many gigs abroad). They play a very vivid, energetic mixture of dancing and drinking songs. All 4 band members play several instruments and they all sing.
This gig was somewhere in the countryside, it was outdoors and combined with some medieval craftsmen and a huge barbecue (as usual) and of course lots of beer in authentic pottery. Besides the stage lights everything was lit by candles and torches. Very nice. About 300 visitors were dancing, eating, drinking etc.
As always a huge party with people of all kinds, children from about 3 years old, lots of young folks, and also older and even old people, all joining in clapping, singing along, dancing and big (double) ring and row dances. Many people come in traditional Celtic, Scottish or Irish outfits (me too) and many others wear their normal cloth (you see many metal band shirts also). A lady in traditional dress was intensively dancing with a young man wearing a Dimmu Borghir band shirt. and a little girl from about 5 years old danced with an older man in kilt. It’s always like this!
The technical man of the band gave a fire show at the end.

This sounds very very interesting! I wish I could see one of those! Next time there's one of those near your home tell me and I'll go to the Netherlands By the way, does anybody know where I could buy a Kilt for less than 100 dollars?

dave, They all live nearby, they only have so many gigs that they only perform about four times a year in this neighbourhood. We always buy kilts (and other fabric for dresses etc) at the market for about € 3 to € 5,- pro linear metre...a kilt is nothing else than a long (about 5 x 1,5 meters) piece of (not too thick) wool cloth. Of course you have to check patterns a.s.o. furthermore you need a belt. Than the next step, this is rather funny for others ;D ;D ;D wrapping your kilt...a full manual is here: www.tartanweb.com/greatkilt/You can make most other attributes yourself, or buy those at celtic markets. (btw: Rapalje means something like 'scum' or 'ragtag')

my clans kilt is kinda homemade. mine was made by a sewer, based in the one of a collague of mine. generally we use around 4 meters of fabric, but it already includes the part that goes behind the back.

The first time I wore a kilt, I wrapped it backward and my mother made fun of me using her gaelic words.

I am going to Haggard tomorrow! Like them a lot, know all their albums, never saw them live. This is Omnia, neo Celtic music. Some songs are interesting primitive (Sk! or Sic! volunteered some time as Sjaman in the archeological park we also volunteered. The influences from Inuit based ritual music is still noticeable in some songs. Other songs are very Celtic, I love the more primitive ones. Jenny Sk! (more pics on my site) and Twi: really great pic!
