I looked in the "search" and i couldn't find a thread related to this topic so i thought starting one. the main subject is Song Lyrics (how suprisin' ) that means a lot of to you. dear moderators if u want to delete the thread do it, just let me know why. so, guess I should start: Neurosis - Burn"You lie in the snow, cold but not dead stare into the sun, long since its last heat
feel the freeze burn skin salt your open wounds a burning desire clears your eyes a willful air fills your lungs
you choke your first breath of wildfire and ocean's depth climb out of your hole, see your spirit take form
this world of cold stone gives nothing in return to those who sleep while the restless burn there are the few driven to flame most are content to drown in the wake of dreams
the trail lies overground across the years fade out of light ever growing dim to an age in the dark grasp from your soul a don't let it steal your eyes"I fixed the heading -Holtiton

I like this thread!!!!
THis lyrics are quite good, very powerfull images; I like specially this refrain of "this world gives nothing in return..."
My first contribution to this thread is going to be from my so admired Jethro Tull; on friday I made all the trip to job (nearly one hour and a half) listening one and again to this song... each time I listening to it it acquires new meanings. At first I loved the first two refrains, now it's the lqast one the one who has more meaning to me. Stop talking Dave!!!!
"Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day"
Meanwhile back in the year one --- when you belonged to no-one --- You didn’t stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.
`cause you were bred for humanity and sold to society ---One day you’ll wake up in the present day --- A million generations removed from expectations Of being who you really want to be.
Skating away --- Skating away --- Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.
So as you push off from the shore, Won’t you turn your head once more --- and make your peace with everyone? For those who choose to stay, Will live just one more day --- To do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness: You feel you have to pray. Looking for a sign That the universal mind (!) has written you into the passion play.
Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.
And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind ---You’re a rabbit on the run. And the silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye --- Shining in the setting sun.
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the story’s Too damn real and in the present tense? Or that everybody’s on the stage, and it seems like You’re the only person sitting in the audience?
Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.

Anastasia Lapsui - Khynum (The Prayer)

Translation:
Hey-ey! By the sacred land my song, my song came down onto me. With the voice of the swan, my song, my song came down onto me. Oh Swan-Mother of Mothers, where could you be, Oh Swan-Mother of mothers? Oh Black-throated diver-Grandmother, in the depths of the Sea of Dead, look at the grief of the troubled people. Oh Swan-Mother of Mothers, look after the praying ones in seven wide lands. In front of the face of the Num, Father of Gods, In front of the Num's wife, the Mother of Gods, pray our prayer! Oh Swan-Mother of Mothers, with your seven sons, into the seventh sphere of heaven the sound of seven pairs of wings the sound is heard, the sound is heard.
Anastasia Lapsui's CD Khynum contains very archaic and original folk poetry of Tundra-Nenets people, who live in the Kanin tundra area of northwest Russia. The Nenets language is a part of Samoyedic languages, which are the second branch of Uralic languages (the other branch is Finno-Ugric languages). In Nenets shamanistic poetry you can find many very old features, which well straight from the ancient times - almost unchanged.

At first I loved the first two refrains, now it's the lqast one the one who has more meaning to me. Stop talking Dave!!!! hehe ;D Jethro Rules, i knew this song and i love it @virva: this is wonderful. realy. it gives me the idea of the next lyric A Classic : Moonsorrow - TUULEN KOTI, AALTOJEN KOTI Kotini tuulen, kotini aaltojen, toi kaiho minut takaisin. Lämmöllä tervehdit matkaajaa joka sinun laulusi laulaa. On kotini näillä rannoilla, kotini tuulen, kotini aaltojen. HOME OF THE WIND, HOME OF THE WAVES My home of the wind, my home of the waves, longing brought me back to your embrace. With warmth you greet me, the wanderer singing your song, dreaming your dream. These shores are my home, my home of the wind, my home of the waves.this song is instrumental, but Moonsorrow wrote this "poem" with it. I rhink it perfectly fits the atmosphere of the song.

Of course I have more 'favourites' but this one is definitely one of them (hope I didn't make too much typo's):
Korpiklaani - Kädet Siipinä
Niin hilijaisen Näen hilijaisen Näen kulkueen niin mustan Niin tunman mustan Hiljaisen näen surussa kulkevan Kädet on siipinä, niin on kädet suojana Suojana siivet silmäin Surun silmain, kädet siipinä Eessä mustan hunnun
Kulkueen näen länteen hiljaa, niin lipun hiljaa länteen Kulkueen niin tumman leskein Niin mustan nuornain leskein Jol kädet siipinä, suojana silmäin Kädet siipinä leskein Hiljaa kuulen surun laulun Kuulen laulun katkeran Hyrinän hyisen leskein Kivun tunnen kivun kuoleman Näen minä tumman taivaan Palavan taivaanrannan minä nään Tuulesta kuulen hyisen huuon Sodan kylmän huuon
Hands as their wings
So silent, I see, oh so silent I see the procession so black, oh so dark, so black silent I see the procession of sorrow hands as their wings, shielding are the hands shielding the eyes are the wings the eyes of sorrow, hand as wings in front of the black veil
I see the procession westbound silently gliding westbound the procession of widows so dark so dark the young widows whose hands as wings shielding their eyes hands as wings of the widows
quietly I hear the song of sorrow, I hear the song so bitter humming of the frozen widow, I feel the pain, the grief of death I see the dark sky, the horizon burning I see I hear the chilling call in the wind the cold call of war the cold call of war the cold call of war
This song is one of my favorites because of the lyrics. I like the singing in Finnish, but I really love the images the translated lyrics bring in my mind.

Translation:
The grain that I sowed in the level field Is it waiting? My beloved one so far away Is she thinking of me?
Forage grain is on the blue field Is it waiting? Gazing into distance How deeply does she remember me?
When you look, it seems like just a blue cliff But in fact it's a land where you can plant wheat It seems to you as if she's lonely But in fact she has a friend whom she likes to talk to
It seems to you like they're yellow cliffs But in fact it's a land where you can plant wheat It seems to you like she's lonely But in fact she has a friend who she likes to be with.
It's amazing how I've found out that in many cultures from Finland to Siberia there's lot's of the very same. As an inner concept, in this Tuvinian folk song there's much similarities ie. with Finnish folk poetry. The whole last autumn I've listened and analyzed so much ethnic and traditional music namely from Siberia, from the Finno-Ugric, Samoyedic, Turkic, Mongolic, Tungusic, Paleo-Siberian and Eskimo-Aleutic peoples. It has an influence to my own music too: it's going to be more shamanistic; more throat-singing, yoik, shaman-drums etc.

R.E.M. - Losing my religion
Oh life is bigger Its bigger than you And you are not me The lengths that I will go to The distance in your eyes Oh no I've said too much I set it up
That's me in the corner That's me in the spot-light Losing my religion Trying to keep up with you And I don't know if I can do it Oh no I've said too much I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you crying I thought that I heard you Scream I think I thought I saw you Die
Every whisper of Every waking moment I'm Choosing my confessions Trying to keep An eye on you Like a hurt lost and blinded fool Oh no I've said too much I set it up
Consider this Consider this The hint of the century Consider this The slip That brought me to my knees failed What if all these fantasies Come flailing around Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you Crying I thought that I heard you Scream I think I thought I saw you Die
But that was just a dream That was just a dream
That's me in the corner That's me in the spot-light Losing my religion Trying to keep up with you But I don't know if I can do it Oh no I've said too much I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you Crying I thought that I heard you Scream I think I thought I saw you Die
But that was just a dream Die Cry Why Die That was just a dream Just a dream Just a dream Dream

PS. Graveworm is a christian band, no support to any of their kind, EVER. You have got quite radical point of views concerning some issues, don't you? My favourite lyric: Edguy - King of fools What do you think when you spit in my face How does it feel to accuse and to haze Now look at me, I'm not one of your kind And I prefer to stay behind And walk the wicked way We don't wanna be like you Don't you get that king of fools We don't mind your life is trite You are the king of fools We are never gonna be like you We don't follow - king of fools You're the blind to lead the blind And I walk the wicked way You feel at ease as you flock with the masses What do you see with your heads in their asses Keep on railing at what I believe Call me insane and I am proud to be And walk the wicked way We don't wanna be like you Don't you get that king of fools We don't mind your life is trite You are the king of fools We're not gonna be like you We don't follow - king of fools You are the blind to lead the blind

One of my all-time favourite songs, 'Garden of Eroticism' by Alchemist.
Through the abundant life Your ability, release my infidelity Swollen ovaries of temptation Shall I dare submerge myself with this obsession? Trapped by lust, nudity an obscenity Shading it's darkness with light Fooled, I am drawn towards the gates of jade Garden gates forever trap me Forever to tend her fields Rewarded with the fruits of life Take another bite, fate seizes me I am punished by my loyalty to her desire Garden of eroticisn, hemaphrodelia Punished by my loyalty to her salacrophobia - testostrodelia

for me the best lyricist band alongside with Neurosis and Doors is surely the american prog-art-rock band called Tool. this lyric a bit different from the previously posted ones, but i still think it's great:
TOOL - PARABOL/ PARABOLA
So familiar and overwhelmingly warm This one, this form I hold now. Embracing you, this reality here, This one, this form I hold now, so Wide eyed and hopeful. Wide eyed and hopefully wild.
We barely remember what came before this precious moment, Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside... This body holding me, reminding me that I am not alone in This body makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion.
We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment, We are Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside... This holy reality, this holy experience. Choosing to be here in...
This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion.
Alive
This holy reality, in this holy experience. Choosing to be here in...
This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion... Of what it means to be alive
Swirling round with this familiar parable. Spinning, weaving round each new experience. Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing chance to be alive and breathing.
This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment. Remember. we are eternal. all this pain is an illusion.
