Beautifully poetic lyrics janneke, I had to read them several times to drink them in. I like the dark, poetic, lyrics of The Protagonist, the lyrics are mostly spoken, not singed, that gives an extra dimension to the mysterious music, it breathes mystery, it makes me calm

janneke: beautiful lyrcs indeed, Janne I can't believe nobody has put these lyrics before: DUST IN THE WIND Kansas I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind. Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind [Now] Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky It slips away, and all your money won't another minute buy. Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind Dust in the wind, everything is dust in the wind.

'She Said No' - John Wesley
It's been long since we've spoken thought that I might give a call did you like the flowers, a small token a gift for you is no trouble at all
It isn't easy here without you the days are long, nights way too hard I was hoping I could see you I miss your eyes, they touch my heart
she said no
Our little lady is asking for you don't understand where you have gone all she knows is she can't hold you thinks that she's done something wrong
Life isn't easy here without you she wakes at night to call your name I tell her you love her and you miss her but words from me just aren't the same oh baby come home please
she said no
You never face the consequences you'll always find some alibi you leave us behind all cut and bleeding you turn your back and you don't know why no you don't know why
She said no
It's been a long time since I've held you no other woman fills my arms I want to believe that you still love me somehow I know you're still there I'm falling apart and I need your answer just see my eyes and you'll find it there find it there
She said no

Radiohead - A Reminder
If I get old, I will not give in But if I do, remind me of this: Remind me that, once I was free Once I was cool, once I was me
And if I sat down, and crossed my arms Hold me into, this song
Knock me out, smash out my brains If I take a chair, start to talk shit.....
If I get old, remind me of this: That night we kissed, and I really meant it
Whatever happens, if we're still speaking Pick up the phone, play me this song

very intensive lyrics Mary, but what can man expect from Radiohead. speaking of that very band:
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest From all the unborn chicken voices in my head What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android) What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)
When I am king, you will be first against the wall (with) your opinion which is of no consequence at all What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android) What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android)
Ambition makes you look pretty ugly Kicking, squealing gucci little piggy You don't remember You don't remember Why don't you remember my name? Off with his head, man Off with his head, man Why don't you remember my name? I guess he does...
Rain down, rain down Come on rain down on me From a great height From a great height... height... Rain down, rain down Come on rain down on me From a great height From a great height... height... Rain down, rain down Come on rain down on me
That's it sir You're leaving The crackle of pigskin The dust and the screaming The yuppies networking The panic, the vomit The panic, the vomit God loves his children, God loves his children, yeah!

Green Lizard - Autumn
You called up late Said you wanted to talk I was afraid Cause you spoke so softly
You took my hand Slowly started to cry I can't understand Why our season went by
Why do leaves fall down from the sky Is the tree not strong enough
You turned away Slowly opened the door Said you could not stay You couldn't take it no more
It started to rain Tears kept falling from the sky It did not stop the pain It did not stop the pain
Why do leaves fall down from the sky Is the tree not strong enough
Now I fall on the ground
It did not stop the pain It did not stop the pain
Why do leaves fall down from the sky Is the tree not strong enough Why do leaves fall down from the sky Is the tree not strong enough
Now I fall on the ground Now I fall on the ground
It did not stop the pain It did not stop the pain
Why do leaves fall down from the sky Is the tree not strong enough
And another one:
Deathstars - Little Angel
Stand here for me angel, Oh little child so broken and wild Bear not life on your shoulders, just kiss it one last time
Was the music to loud for you, to raw to be true Were the abstracts too dark for you, I beg you now to ...watch the sky so bright, see all its light - fade
Here I am, was it everything you spoke of Oh little angel Yeah! Here I am, was it everything you've dreamt of Oh little angel
Bow down for me heavenly one, Shed not those tears my little friend Fear not god anymore, because you find him in my arms
Was the volume to high for you, to touch for the blue Were desires too dark for you, to good to be true
...watch the sky so bright, see all its light - fade
Here I am, was it everything you spoke of Oh little angel Yeah! Here I am, was it everything you've dreamt of Oh little angel
Tell me now how your wings got broken Tell me now how your spine got whipped by leather Tell me now how your tounge got spilt Tell me all the things you need to drift away
Watch the sky so bright, see all its light fade Watch the sky so full of light For the last time so bright...

WHEREVER I MAY ROAM - METALLICA
…And the road becomes my bride I have stripped of all but pride So in her I do confide And she keeps me satisfied Gives me all I need
…And with dust in throat I crave Only knowledge will I save To the game you stay a slave Rover, wanderer Nomad, vagabond Call me what you will
But I'll take my time anywhere Free to speak my mind anywhere And I'll redefine anywhere
Anywhere I roam Where I lay my head is home
…And the earth becomes my throne I adapt to the unknown Under wandering stars I've grown By myself but not alone I ask no one
...And my ties are severed clean The less I have, the more I gain Off the beaten path I reign Rover, wanderer Nomad, vagabond Call me what you will
But I'll take my time anywhere I'm free to speak my mind anywhere And I'll never mind anywhere
Anywhere I roam Where I lay my head is home
But I'll take my time anywhere I'm free to speak my mind And I'll take my find anywhere
Anywhere I roam Where I lay my head is home
Carved upon my stone My body lie, but still I roam Wherever I may roam Wherever I may roam Wherever I may roam ============== and this is another one I really like ===
DISPOSABLE HEROES - METALLICA
Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all Victim of what said should be, a servant till I fall
Soldier boy, made of clay Now an empty shell Twenty-one, only son But he served us well Bred to kill, not to care Do just as we say Finished here. Greetings, Death, He's yours to take away
Back to the front You will do what I say, when I say Back to the front You will die when I say, you must die Back to the front You coward, you servant, you blind man
Barking of machine-gun fire does nothing to me now Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow More a man, more stripes you wear, glory-seeker trends Bodies fill the fields I see The slaughter never ends
Soldier boy, made of clay Now an empty shell Twenty-one, only son But he served us well Bred to kill, not to care Do just as we say Finished here. Greetings, Death, He's yours to take away
Back to the front You will do what I say, when I say Back to the front You will die when I say, you must die Back to the front You coward, you servant, you blind man
Why am I dying? Kill, have no fear Lie, live off lying Hell, hell is here
I was born for dying
Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say Had no chance to see myself, molded day by day Looking back I realize, nothing have I done Left to die with only friend Alone I clench my gun
Soldier boy, made of clay Now an empty shell Twenty-one, only son But he served us well Bred to kill, not to care Just do as we say Finished here. Greetings, Death, He's yours to take away
Back to the front You will do what I say, when I say Back to the front You will die when I say, you must die Back to the front You coward, you servant, you blind man
Back to the front

Great lyrics crow, brings back some good memories. Metallica were one of the first bands I loved.
This Pearl Jam song is one that has been special to me for many years. I think the lyrics work as poetry, they are so descriptive. Whenever I am going through a big life change, this song comes back into my life to comfort me.
Pearl Jam - I'm Open
A man lies in his bed in a room with no door He waits, hoping for a presence or something Anything To enter After spending half his life searching He still felt as blank as the ceiling at which he stared He is alive, but feels absolutely nothing So is he?
When he was six, he believed that the moon overhead followed him By nine, he had deciphered the illusion Trading magic for facts No trade-backs So this is what it's like to be an adult If he only knew now what he knew then
I'm open Come in I'm open Come in
Lying sideways atop crumpled sheets and no covers he decides to dream... Dream up a new self... For himself

Cheers CrazyMary. They mean a lot to me, and bring back good memories for me as well, but I'm sure they are not the same as yours. For me they are mostly job related Going through big changes in life, there is always music to that. But always the same song? I only know the first Pearl Jam album, so never heard this song. "When he was six, he believed that the moon overhead followed him By nine, he had deciphered the illusion" Great lines!!

There might be other songs that gain some meaning for that time as well, but I'm Open is always one of them. Pearl Jam went through the whole grunge thing so a lot of people got sick of them, but they have some surprisingly deep lyrics. And yes, it's the moon lines that drew me into this song originally. When I was a kid I remember staring out of the car window when we drove at night, always watching the moon following us. So it has a special meaning for me there.

I can't get Metallica's 'Disposable Heroes' out of my head today, damn.

"Learning The Game"
Hearts that are broken and love that's untrue These go with learning the game
When you love her and she doesn't love you You're only learning the game
When she says that you're the only one she'll ever love Then you find that you are not the one she's thinking of
Feeling so sad and you're all alone and blue That's when you're learning the game
When she says that you're the only one she'll ever love Then you find that you are not the one she's thinking of
Feeling so sad and you're all alone and blue That's when you're learning the game
That's when you're learning the game

Hey crow, this song is great!!!! Who is the author? It's the kind of lyrics we all feel identified with. It reminds me of a song by a Spanish songwritter, Ismael Serrano; he called his song "Instructions for keeping hatred eternally" It's in Spanish, but I should translate it; it's similar to this one you've posted.
Now I'll post an Aerosmith's one; I like very much this for the dreaming lyrics it has; it's so opened that it may mean whatever the listener wants. enjoy!
Seasons Of Wither
blues hearted lady, sleepy was she love for the devil brought her to me tears of a thousand drawn to her sin seasons of wither holdin' me in oooh woe is me, I feel so badly for you oooh woe is me, I feel so sadly for you in time bound to lose your mind live on borrowed time take the wind right out of your sail fireflies dance in the heat of hound dogs that bay at the moon my ship leaves in the midnight can't say I'll be back too soon they awaken, far far away heat of my candle show me the way tears of a thousand drawn to her sin seasons of wither holdin' me in
Here it is the translation of the song I talked about above. FOr my friends and me it was something like an anthem, since there was always a girl leaving one of us. When my last girfriend left me I promised I wouldn't listen to this song... and it's been two years now, so it's time to listen to it again; it's beautiful, keep it in mind when this happen to you!!!
Instructions For Keeping Hatred Eternally
If she goes away, never forgive her, If she leaves you make your hatred grow, Never be generous with oblivion, if she goes away. If she leaves you don't say "goodbye" Or "what can I do?", never ask for pardon. Never look again at your pic together And looking at her eyes give her your hatred as a present
If she goes away never try to understand her Curse all her footsteps Never believe on her farewell, her promises, her explanation, And make her cry and feel pain, Make her conscience burn as the sun Make farewell cut her as a blade,
Because when she goes away Somebody else will wait for her on the corner, She will laught on the arm of another one, with new lies, She'll say "I love you", "how much time I've been waiting for you" And she will forget you, everything will die And that autumn will have never been yours No need to lie, let her carry, at least for a while, Your hatred forever

That's one, I love: Nirvana- About a girl
I need an easy friend, I do... With an ear to lend, I do... Think oyu fit this shoe, I do... Won't you have a clue
I'll take advantage, while You heal me out to dry But I can't see you every night For free...
I'm standing in your line, I do... Hope, you have the time, I do... To pick a number, too, I do... To keep a date with you I'll take advantage, while...
