Soviet-schlagers? Interesting =) Actually I meant a kind of pop/hit music from the Soviet-era. The one with massive choirs etc. How do you call it?

you're right, we called it schlagers what of them are your favourite? =) I haven't listened them so innovatively to name any favourites; that's why I mentioned it as a genre in my post in the first place.

Agh, this is tough! Especially trying to describe why I like some of these. Here goes Metal and related:Korpiklaani / Shaman (obviously) ;D - This music gives me a wonderful intense feeling, I feel so grateful and happy to be alive to hear it... Moonsorrow - Total epic splendor!! This stuff just drives me over the edge, and they are out of this world live. This + Korpiklaani tie for my favorite band Finntroll - Irresistable... Einherjer - my favorite Viking metal Doomsword - my favorite Doom band (so far! I have much to hear yet!) Tyr - They put me in another world, the melodies are so interesting and original, and I love his singing Asmegin - Absolutely ingenious music, their one album (I hope they put out more!!) is one of the most perfect albums I've ever heard. Nightwish - Nightwish also gives me an ecstatic feeling of being lucky to be alive to hear it!!! The music and Tarja's singing is gorgeous and intense. Tristania - The vocal combinations this band creates are particularly beautiful. Vintersorg and Otyg - I love just about everything this guy does! Otyg especially, I think this is some of the best folk metal around; oh how I wish V would be inspired to pick it up again! Solefald - Fascinating, interesting, complex music. A real mind-trip. I like Cornelius' other project, Sturmgeist, as well. Lumsk - Just beautiful - lifts me off my feet!!! 80s Metallica, Iron Maiden - these are what I mostly listened to in high school, and what got me into metal in the first place. Therion (Theli and later) - after Metallica went downhill, and way before I ever heard of folk metal, Therion is what restored my faith in the heavy metal genre, and got me into symphonic metal. Actually, maybe I should say, Therion restored my faith in music! They remain in my top 5 favorite bands. In Extremo - I am a sucker for anything with medieval influences! Amorphis - I am just getting into these guys but so far I love every album I hear, including both the melodeath and the progressive kinda stuff. Dornenreich - I am not certain about the earlier black metal, but I LOVE the later albums, this stuff is so ethereal and moody... Tenhi - Another recent discovery (thanks largely to this message board!! ) WOW this music FLOORS me!!!!! I am bewildered by it. I don't know what else to say! Viikate - Another recent discovery thanks entirely to this message board! I love these guys!!!! The guitar, his voice (so sexy!) I find myself listening to them very often. I have recently ordered a Finnish-English dictionary so that I could start deciphering their lyrics. In fact, he sings so clearly that I can follow along even not knowing the language, and it is largely due to my constant listening of this band that I have decided to try and learn Finnish sometime soon... Goth/Darkwave:Switchblade Symphony, Mephisto Walz - These are two bands that are very ethereal goth-darkwave type stuff with beautiful female vocals, I've enjoyed both of these bands for a long time... The Cure - (NOT their pop-sounding stuff!) - I've liked their older (80s) stuff for a long time, it touches me on an emotional level. Qntal - Sort of medieval darkwave, really beautiful!!! Rock:White Stripes - most awesome bluesy hard rock since Led Zep! Raconteurs is good too, seems that anything Jack White does is great. Therapy? - I love these guys! Frighteningly enough, I can relate closely to the insanity theme Korol i Shut - great Russian punk-ish rock! Electronic stuff:Infected Mushroom, Juno Reactor, Shpongle, Astral Projection, The Orb. This is music that puts me in an altered state of consciousness. 'nuff said! Other:Natacha Atlas - very sexy singing!! with gorgeous middle eastern music. Solyma, Zohar - more amazing, exotic, middle-eastern flavoured music. Bad Brains - alternating hardcore punk and dub ;D hardcore is the only thing even remotely related to metal that is popular in my hometown of NYC, unfortunately I don't like the rest of the genre, but this band really stands out. Skatalites - my favorite Ska band Caribace, Jah Division - two Russian bands that make awesome dub. Dub is my favorite chill-out music when I'm not in the metal mood Leningrad - Russian ska with lyrics that make me crack up every time ;D (edit: I did something of an overhaul on this list because of recent band discoveries... )

Well there are many many bands I like...I'll try to find a selection:
Metal: Children of Bodom Dragonforce Blind Guardian Iced Earth Cryhavoc Edguy Ensiferum Finntroll Korpiklaani (of course ;D) Hammerfall In Extremo In Flames Mercenary Nightwish Sonata Arctica Stratovarius Wintersun Demons & Wizards Die Apokalyptischen Reiter
Other Genres (with some I'm not sure if I should call them metal or not so they are listed here): Böhse Onkelz (don't say anything wrong now...I am NOT "nazi" and they aren't, too...it's a damn prejudice because of their very (very, very...) early days) The Offspring Subway To Sally Schandmaul Racer X Lordi Donots Die Toten Hosen
there are many more I guess but that's a (long) selection
