For me the ultimate woman in metal is Agnete M. Kirkevaag of Madder Mortem. Great voice and great music. She is one of the founders and composers.

When I was 16, I wanted to play the bass. I saved money, collected bottles in bars for refund and finally made it to get the money for the instruments and a couple of lessons. Then, I realized that I have no musical talent at all and a band has to rely on their bass player ... well, I spent all the money on a three week vacation to Wales and England after my high school graduation. *blush* I guess I saved a band a lot of trouble but I still think about it once in a while. Frekia: Go for it!!!

I play the Cello! Really Metal isn't it??? And next week I'll join Apocalyptica... I'm training my vocal cords to "sing" like Helge! (but I think that will never work because I train this for sooo long...)

I still don't see too many female band leaders who shape the band's image in the public eye musicwise. Female band leaders: Recapture: DNS: Other bands with female vocals or leaders: Lacuna Coil, Leaves`eyes, Epica, Within Temptation, After forever, Theatre of tragedy, Evanescense, The gathering, Tristania, Arch Enemy, Edenbridge, Darkwell, Xandria, Beseech etc. etc. Oh, and one I like a lot: the woman of Sirenia. You just have to open your eyes and ears, then you`ll discover MANY bands with cool women in front.

I am not a big fan of Liv Kristine and she surely isn't writing the songs. She just stands in front showing off. I don't even think she is a good singer. Sorry, I just think she gave Goth Metal the wrong image. I am not objective here. I know these women but most I don't consider band leaders just because they are up front singing (even though I like some of them). I do agree on Arch Enemy though. If Theatre of Tragedy had had another singer, they still would have been the same band. The same with Evanescence, Lacuna Coil and many others. Many could just be replaced by a singer with a similar style ... they don't shape the music as strongly. As a male counter example I would mention Iron Maiden and Iced Earth because they don't work with other singers for me. See what I mean? It's kinda hard to explain. Seriously, my eyes are wide open and I am still waiting ...

I love that Black Metal woman! She's definitely cool! And there are not much women who have corpse paint!

It is not true what Runemeister thinks about some of the frontwomen;Amy of Evanescence IS the head of the band, she writes all of the lyrics and melodies, her band only does the riffs and arrangements. Also,Simone of Epica and Sharon of WT are very much involved into songwriting and the lyrics. So,we couldn't say they just sing and show off.As for Liv,I agree, but her sister has a band and writes songs.I think they are called Midnattsol or something like that

Yeah, Midnattsol played at Summer Breeze last year. I don't really think much about Evanescence because I don't consider them a metal band and I personally think no one will remember them in 5 years.
How can it be wrong what I think? ;-) It's just my personal opinion. I just prefer singers who really rock on stage. It bewilders me to see people who have to be careful they don't drip over their long dress or that their make-up might smear when they headbang. Has anyone ever heard Thorr's Hammer with Runhild Gammelsaeter? She is doing some pretty cool growls. There are positive examples, I never doubted that. I just wish there were more female band leaders like the positive examples.
And I am also very fundamentalistic on Gothic Metal. Paradise Lost are my old heros, so no one can expect me to like bands like Within Temptation. I try to be tolerant here but I never really liked the road Goth Metal took. I like the old bands from the early to mid 90s. This whole female singer hysteria in the scene kinda killed innovation in my eyes. I always loved what bands like Paradise Lost, Heavenwood or EverEve did during that time.

And don't care too much about their looking and outfits! There is that "band" called vanilla ninja^^

Uuuh, I've seen those girls on tv. Aren't they some casted chicks who are supposed to be rock and all wild ... *cough* Hehe, the music industry always tries like in the case of that douche bag Alexander Klaws. Have you seen they tried to sell him as a rock musician? I saw him on tv wearing black and a thor's hammer. I almost puked at the tv ... but that's off topic. Sorry ;-).
