Margaret Atwood - Oryx and Crake
Very dark, intense, depressive, thrilling. I love negative utopias. Just to mention at least one book of the many I love. I might toss in more later.

Yesterday was the day of the book and rose and people were dressing like they do in their favourite novels. It was quite amusing. For the honory of this day, they sold some books on lower prizes than usual, and off course i was at the book store at this particular day because I had the feeling that i'd find something interesting what's also suitable for my wallet. I found some Chehov and was so excited that i bought it straight away! He's my favourite play-writer and i've read his plays many times but I didn't have any as my own...so I bought three sisters and a seagull. I wanted to buy Uncle Vanya because it was the first Chehov play i ever read so it has a lot of emotinal value on me; I've also seen it in a theatre and it was in russian and i understood what they were saying..!!! , but there wasn't any copies left...but that's alright, i still have a seagull and three sistersand i'm very pleased! I'm recently reading...I don't even know the title in english...Kirjoituksia kellareista, zapiski iz podpoa'ya. Writing from a cellar( ) by Dostoyevski. It's very interesting and i found some similarities with the main charachter ;D Anyway, this book doesn't have many pages what is quite unusual for Dostoyevsky. Look at the brothers of Karamazov for exemble..

Do you maybe mean Notes from the Underground? I heard it's pretty good and my creative writing teacher once recommended it to me.

I also recommend it to you. But most of all read Brothers Karamazoffs - imho, it's the best Dostoevskiy ever wrote

- Thank you for telling me to correct name of that book in english! That's a very good to know Have you already read it? If you haven't, please think about it! - Thank you for recommending! This is my 4th Dostoyevski book, i've already read memoiars from a death house, the idiotand crime and punishment . The fact that brothers of karamazov has so many pages, has me amused; at the time the publicer paid the writer for every single page and more pages - more money I've heard that Dostoyevski were always broke because he gambeled. I do respect him and all the other great writers but it's just a funny detail which makes me smile everytime i think about it.

It's on my "wanna-read" list but I still have a pile of new books sitting here, and I also have to read too much stuff for my exams :-(. I'll remember it nevertheless because my creative writing teacher seemed to think it would be good for me. She always picked an author for every student with a similar style, similar topics or just as a positive model. I had written a story about an authoritarian society, where metal kids were persecuted. Then, she recommended me Notes from the Underground and Dostojewski in general. I've done some research and think I will enjoy reading it very much. I just need TIME. *sigh*

My favorite book is Mythago wood by R. Holdstock, something between horror and fantasy. It's one of the most impressive books I've ever read

My favorite story is "the Hobbit" from Tolkien. But now that i tried to read his other stories beyond The Lord Of The Rings like Feanors Curse or the Children of Hurin I must admit I cannot stand this kind of "stories" it reminds me too much of my history book....

If Fantasy I like the Belgariad Cycle from David Eddings. For my opinion better than Tolkien

Is Demon of Karanda (English title?) part of that cycle? I've read that book many years ago but only have a very vague memory of it.
*is re-reading the chronicles of narnia after 17 years or so and is finally reaching book 7*
