We are so isolated her down under,
Are many people aware of us or our ways?
Most Aussies can apply some association to Europe as we are all descendants of Europeans etc and our forefathers fought in European wars etc....Just curious for any pre-convieced notions or ideals on Australia or Aussies!
Be honest and critical if nessecary!

Australia? Never heard of that place Well, you may be probably susprised at the fact that Aussieland is the place where I'd like to live if I had to leave Spain. I don't know very much about Australia actually, but I know enough as to think it's a good place; such a vast isle with so little people and such a nice weather makes the perfect combination for me. I love nature there, so wild and different form Europe. People is nice and warm, it's like they have built their country the way they really liked it; I mean, everything seems so easy going and relaxed there! Ok, I supposse that's just appearance and not reality, but I find it more relaed. I once was told about timetables and working hours there (not allowing working for more than 5 hours without a break), and the holyday system (you are paid more money if you're in holidays) and it sounds so coherent that you hate the way things are done in Spain in my case. And talking about music, Ac/Dc, Rose Tattoo, The Skyhooks... good old rock the way it should always be. And Banjo Patterson and Waltzing Matilda, of course; Clarke's His Natural Life, and all that outcast poetry that longs so much for the Metropoli. I love Waltzing Matilda's verses, I think it beautifully describes the quest for freedom and how if you're going to be deprived of ti you better die by your own hand. Footie is a great sport too, must be quite fun to play that. In soccer, Harry Kewell plays for Liverpool Fc. And all that surf in those beautifull beaches, wonderful! There are so many things that could be said about Australia! But I will specially point one: Aussie Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

However, Native Australians are put before any others, they have access to all jobs, cheaper housing etc, alot of government departments are in place to protect them and our present government has "advised" he wants to issue a formal apologie! Sorry what country are you from?

Yes Aussies are very relaxed and as we are so isolated love to meet foreigners - Especially europeans as most Aussies are of European extraction. The state I live in - "Adelaide" is mainly German - They pretty much own the joint and sell their culture here...They were the original settlers in the 1800's. Towns with names like, Hahndorf, Lobethal, Mannum, Tailem, The annual German festival "Schutzenfest" is huge and the German society make a fortune! And then we have a multitude of "poms"

Not Most, but All Aussies are Europeans English Prisons were Emptied from Thiefs in past times and sent them to boats to descover another territories. English Thiefs found This Island and built, killing first Aborigens people, their Cities along the Coasts. Write on google the Word AUSTRALIA and Read About It. Many Latvians went to Austrialia during Soviet invasion of Latvia. Someone is came back to Riga to open a hostel for tourists. This September in Europe there were many aussies as tourists.

oh c'mon :\ do you seriously think that we've never heard of Australia :\ of course you make jokes with such a question! (you can better ask it to americans, cause they seriously don't know where australia is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8SuCBHqXtQ ) but well anyway, as you want it: as soon as I finished university and have enough money I'm going to make a trip to Australia and New Zealand just to see some culture and landshape and stuff

oh c'mon :\ do you seriously think that we've never heard of Australia :\ Aussieklaani only presented a simple and harmless question in purpose to wake up some dicussion about it all, nothing wrong or bad in that. It's not an excuse of any kind for the others to start goofing around so much as they now did. It just went a bit too far this time, thus let's concentrate on the essential now and leave out all the unnecessary nonsense. of course you make jokes with such a question! Joking every now and then isn't prohibited, but this thread started to a bit be too full of just plain nonsense crap and namely everything else than aussieklaani had asked and meant, that's for sure. Discussing something in even slightly more appropriate way shouldn't be too much asked from anyone here. Behave now folks.

Australia is one of the places I'd like to travel sometimes in the future. I've always been interested in of the Aboriginals and their cultures, myths and languages. And of course it would be interesting to buy the real didgeridoo straight from Australia. Other Australia related associations for me are Crocodile Dundee, good red wines - and of course cold Foster's beer!

The Oz land is the home of the most awesome animal, the Koala. It is also the home of vegemite and seafood barbeque. When the Aussies do DST they do it backwards. because their seasons are backwards too. so if you have let's say 10 hours difference before DST, you end up having 12 after you both apply, cause you go back an hour and the Aussie goes forward. Or something.

Fosters is the beer we export just to fool the rest of the world - no one on the east coast drinks it (I don't know about the rest of Australia). If you're in Sydney have a Tooheys, and if you're in Melbourne the locals will mob you if you don't have a Victoria Bitter!

Now I live in the dryest state and have Tooheys! And please don't associate Fosters with Australia! It is a very bad beer!
