As we managed to spam the other thread with this discussion. I have opened this thread up.
Is it only me that feels most countries are becoming more Americanised?
Everything has to be done faster, and better, and bigger than anyone else. The culture seems to be creeping in, from the clothes and the music, the words flitering in, the way things are done.
I mean, look at little England. Yes we're cut off from Europe, and from any other continent, yet we're so far entrenched with the US we might as well be an outlying state! Look at the war in Iraq, Blair went along with Bush like a little lapdog following his master's every command. THe crime rate is increasing, the amount of guns and gang crimes is on the up constantly. Is it any wonder I no longer want to live in the concrete jungle this one beautiful country is becoming?
What does everyone else think. Is it too much that America is trying to foist itself on many other countries?

well ,as spammed in the other thread,of course I agree with you...of course that process of "americanisation" it's in process in Italy since years and years, especially with the former prime minister Berluscazzo,sorry,Berlusconi...but it's a process that doesn't depend on the tipe of government we got...the worst thing is that we follow and take the worst things of usa, following them in Iraq it's only one...the things we sholud really copy from them, like increasing the punishment for the economical or financial crimes,or kick out of the parliament the,how can I say, criminals(there are deputys that are judged guilty for different crimes, and who still have the courage to sit in the parliament),are not...

You mean deposing people?
I can admit, some stuff is good. But then you have the side of it that you dont want, and it seems to be the bit that creeps in quicker and quicker

But the problem is not from our polithicians; the American invasion comes from the end of WWII and it was spread both by Marshall Plan and the so called American Way Of Life. USA begun with to spread its culture and all that creating a new kind of Imperialism not based on war and conquer(at least in the countries that were in its influence scope) but on a Economical and Cultural preponderancy; everybody went to the cinemas to watch the John Wayne films, read the novels that were in vogue in the states, watched Bonanza or Bewitched and heard Rock & Roll. That has developed to our days in which people wears clothes from sports that have never ever watched on tv and things like that. The point is that the USA wants the money, and to get the money they sell their products... it's licit. The problem is that sometimes that money is used to invade countries or to support tyrant regimes and when those regimes turned against them (Talibans) the rest of the world is involved in a war; but since they've got power enough they claim that if you're not with them , you're against them; they won't allow the neutrality that every country is allowed to claim.
Who is guilty of that? at the end we are the guilty ones, because we go to the cinema to watch their films, eat at their restaurants, drink coca cola and so on. Take the example of Christmas; in Spain as I've said plenty of times Christmas wasn't the day in which gifts were given, it was January the 6th, the day of the 3 wise men; but now the toys ads are boradcasted and there's always a Santa Clauss... fuck Santa, I want my 3 Wise Men on the TV but kids are now tought that the important one is grandpa because their parents give 'em the toys on 25th December... it's a pity, but I think that in the end we -society- are guilties because we say no to all that

its right what you said, Dave, but there are products from all of the world...there arent only products from America.......maybe we only want to see only their products, like Coke or Rock n Roll you said, but from music you cant only see one side.....there are also so much other music styles....however.....USA are doing stupid things and think they are the biggest, strongest country in the world......they forget that there are many countries which are against them.........a day will come where America will realize that they are alone and nobody stands behind them to make their plans into reality........ It is true that Americans think that they are the best and everyone has to look up to them and be for them but also some Americans sees that this is a wrong looking.........i only will say to that that they will get that what they will get!!

I don't like the "Americanisation" of life, but the thing I disapprove most is the foreign policy of USA. They are creating their enemies, just to have reason to wage wars here and there. Thus confirming the legend of their almightiness and finding a market for the products of their war concerns.

Concerning politics: America is practicing indoctrination to get their way. They make, as wolferin says, their enemies. Especially governments which aren't practising politics in the american "democratic" ( what democracy? Democracy is being elected with about 1 million votes less? Democracy is having only 2 parties?) way. They do this under the motto of them being tyrannic and terrorists. A sad way to go I think.
The american way of life... it's all based on profits. You make profits you make it in america. You have any other goals than profits and you'll fail. So it's not my cup of tea, but I can see why people like it.

they forget that there are many countries which are against them.........a day will come where America will realize that they are alone and nobody stands behind them to make their plans into reality........ I'm sorry but right now I don't think that day will come because USA have assured it's preponderancy on the highest international governing institutions... think on NATO, it is the shield they use when international pressure is against them... they send the NATO to do the job everybody's against doing nor want the USA to do. Since NATO is a common defense project created by the USA nobody will contradict the boss. And this is not like it was centuries ago when for example Spain had the possition of preponderancy in the world and the rest of strong European countries attacked the Spanish until they were vanquished... now the strong countries are the buddies of the bully, so I'm afraid that nowadays the USA won't ever be alone; maybe they will have the lack of the support of some countries, like it was the case of the war in IRAK, but those who won't support him won't be against them neither. One thing is for sure, no country could face the USA, not now and not in a close future; who knows what will happen in 50 years; the only menace that the USA have now is terrorism but never a direct confrontation; maybe when China finishes its developement we all, not only the USA, will have to face the new Chineese Empire; and I´m afraid I preffer the USA than China... in the USA everything is done with a minimum quality, but we all know how well done are Chineese manufatures

CHinese are communist, so in their eyes they work with the people for the people, unsure of how true this is though.
Everyone is only the friend of the bully, cos like school, its better to be with them than be against them and get crushed

At this rate, with the current on going wars experts have calculated that at about 2025 the USA will be bankrupt, have higher debts than African countries. It will end Besides, Bush has lost his power in congress, so he can't do that much anymore. Next year presidential elections will be there ( or was that 2008?) and then there will be a more sane person president of the us and a ( gotta love Borat )

Of course they will fall, there's always one falling so another one can rise; the problem is that when the Vietnam war finished experts already told it was the begining of the decadence of the American empire... and it was shown that the empire just grown stronger. Militarily they've got no rival... specially because they only allow their buddies to have some militar power. And in economics.... well, we Europeans are a pain in their ass, though transactions are paid in Dollars, yet. Of course they will fall, but though I'm a profane in these matters, I don't think they will fall before we all are grandpa's and grandma's (grandpa Dave... ouch!!!) But I dont think their fall will be like any other country-empire before because there's no tangible Empire in fact. All the precedent Empires, from Egypt to the Commmonwealth were based on the militar conquist of territories; here and now the conquist haven't been militar (except in some cases) it was an Economical one, via what I said yesterday. Think on the biggest companies in your countries... except some technological ones or in the case of Spain, the clothing group Inditext) all are American; there we have Coca-cola, Pepsi, IBM, Microsoft and all the rest. It's a differente kind of slavery but it is slavery in the end, we are working for them! So we've got nobody against whom we could rise to make them fall; those at command in the subsidiary franchise are people from the country in which the franchise is settle, and those ones depends directly from the matrix, they live very well, they won't rise. Another point in this is that the fact that one firm like coca cola comes to your country creates jobs, and finallly creates economical profits for the goverments... if the goverments rise against the firms they'll find the problem of finding new jobs for the people... so in the end you see that the empire is very well rooted in all our counrtries because we all are pieces from a machinery that starts in the USA. So, don't worry, no war will ruin the USA, they're clever enough to stop the expenses before their equilibrium is menaced. And well, yes, in two years there will be ellections to the presidence, but we only can be sure the next won't be as bad as Georgie... it would be impossible!!!!

Folks, I hate this whole idea of globalization, because it makes most and nearly only a few people and multinational Concerns richer and earth and the People sick and poor. Join attc or the brotherhood of night. Fight it ! A great author I would like to offer you in this case is :
Jean Ziegler (born April 19, 1934) is the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food and a senior professor of sociology at the University of Geneva and the Sorbonne, Paris. He was a Member of Parliament for the Social Democrats in the Swiss federal parliament from 1981 to 1999, now he is a leaders of the anti-economic globalization movement.
In 2000, he was appointed by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights as the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. In this role, he has visited many countries on behalf of the Commission on Human Rights, including Niger, Ethiopia, India, Bangladesh Mongolia, Brazil, Guatemala, and the Palestinian territories to report on the situation of hunger and malnutrition in these countries. [1]
Jean Ziegler is the author of various books on globalization and on the crimes committed in the name of global finance and capitalism, condemning in particular the role of Switzerland in these. He writes in French and German.
