My native language is Czech, so I also understand Slovak (these languages are sooo similar, but I probably won't be able to speak fluent Slovak). Then I speak quite good English and I learn German, but I have problems to say a single sentence I also used to learn Latin for a year, but I remember only a few words. And finally, I'd like to learn Finnish and Spanish or French, and maybe also Italian.

I learn swedish right now, it´s not that difficult if you can speak german fluently. Some words I don´t need to translate because they´re similar. Finnish is damn hard to learn :C

huge94: How similar is Quebecois to French? I haven't studied French but extremely briefly, yet it seems they are quite similar, at least in that it wouldn't be hard to understand one if you knew the other, or am I mistaken?

Quebecois is french, technically, but in practice people throw english words and slang into the spoken language. So if you spoke French (France) you would understand a Quebecois without much of an issue, but you might go huh? at some of the words/expressions. Obviously the opposite is also true.

1. native: Finnish 2. foreign: Northern Saami, Estonian, English, Swedish, Russian.
why? I study Finno-Ugric languages so Northern Saami and Estonian are because of that. Russian because I may need it in the future (same with English). Swedish because in Finland one have to study it...

OH! I like this one!
Native language: english proficient in spanish
when I was small, I used to know some Slovak since I had/have family there. I have since lost most of it, but as of late, is starting to come back to me.
so, I'd have to say that I want to learn Slovak fluently, as well as Gaelic. My two heritages, and where my elders came from.

It's been very long time since I was in this forum last time.
My native language is still Finnish. Nowadays I understand quite good Estonian and speak it a bit. Next Autumn I will start my fenno-ugric language studies in University of Helsinki. There I will definitely learn much more Estonian but also Northern Sami and Hungarian languages. I have also bought a Karelian textbook but have not read it much - yet.

Native language: Hungarian Speaking: good: english not so good: german, slovak I also understand: czech, some written texts in slavic/german languages Learning: spanish and the 3 above Want to learn: finnish *.* It's such a cute, interesting language, similar to Hungarian, I love how it sounds... I also can say 6-7 sentences in Finnish but there's no proper Finnish teacher here - or just some really rich ones - so I'm learning Finnish by myself - via internet and penpals Finnish But it's soo had.. But maybe more understandable for a Hungarian than e.g. for a German. And haha I've spoken Finnish with Korpiklaani, too

My native language is German. I speak English and French pretty good and I started learning Russian which makes a lot of fun. And I know some words in different languages. But it's nothing I dare to say because I'm afraid these words are just curse words...
