In fact have seen that movie too (V2 - Jäätynyt enkeli), just I can't really share the opinion about the Norther issue, imo they were just included in the movie to draw some metal people to the cinema At least their task there is restricted to hanging around in two scenes and looking as cool as possible.

Pitkä kuuma kesä is about my home town . So that's what Joensuu looks like. I haven't had too much of a respect against finnish films, but i think that would change if i even watched them . Well Populäärimusiikkia Vittulajänkältä was funny, and is funny. That's a film i would recommend, it's spoken in swedish and finnish so you can hear some "finlandssvenska" also. It sounds pretty different than "rikssvenska". Finnish humour

I just watched Rock'n Roll never dies, a movie of Juha Koiranen (fully unknown to me).
The main role is played by Samuli Edelmann, who plays the part of 'Tikeri', an almost 40 years old guy who still lives with his parents. His only passion is in fact music, and he drags his guitar with him everywhere. He attends a writing class to become a better lyrics writer, but in his stories we see in flash backs many things from his past.
The beginning of the movie is in a way characteristic for the whole movie, a huge misunderstanding (really funny) between Tikeri's family and their neighbours is totally misinterpreted. It is all about people who do not recognize dishonesty, because they are so honest themselves. That goes especially for Tikeri.
The story might not be really strong, but the movie itself is really touching, Tikeri is a lovely naive guy. Later on he finds out that he is labelled as retarded, and that hits him hard. Luckily he has a very wise and also kind father.
For me this movie is touching, warm and genuine, from time to time really funny, but a little slow here and there.

Perhaps most of the people can even quite easily and directly see the evident connection of the foreign word "tiger" and the loaned Finnish variation "tiikeri" without any real need of mentioning about it particularly. Different a case completely if the question is about words without any kind of clear references to a direction or another. IMO.

Tomorrow I'm going to see a film called Lieksa!, directed by Markku Pölönen. It's the premiere and we got invited there. And I'm so excited! I am expecting some great views and of course a beautiful story. The title song, "While your lips are still red" or something like that, is composed by Tuomas Holopainen and the vocals are by Marco Hietala. Maybe I'll see the boys there. Who knows.
And yesterday I saw Äideistä parhain. The atmosphere during the movie was unbelievable "smooth". Try to understand what I mean, but I can't really explain it . Sentimental.

I am curious how Lieksa will be Ädeistä parhain is a very sentimental movie indeed, from the same maker is also Näkymätön Elina, i think that one is even better! It is about a young girl from Finnish heritage who goes to school in Northern Sweden in the time that speaking Finnish was more or less forbidden. In that area live many more people who are native Finnish speakers, and this, quie stubborn (but she is right!) girl does not want to compromise. Also really beautiful nature images. And besides all the sadness also funny happenings, like with the young teacher who comes to town.

Okay. Lieksa's seen now. The scenery really is beautiful, and the costumes. They take your breath away. Again the athmosphere was really warm, especially between the women. Peter Franzen's character was a success, but the film confused me a bit a couple of times. And I was sitting almost next to Tuomas in the theater. Chattet a while with him and his mum (my mum knows his parents so that's a great advantage ).

I think that Rukajärven tie(also know as Ambush) is one of the greatest finnish movie ever.
This war movie is based on the book "Elämä isänmaalle" written by Antti Tuuri, the film was directed by Olli Saarela. "Rukajärven tie" debuted on January 22, 1999. The leading charecters are Peter Franzén as Lt. Eero Perkola and Irina Björklund as Kaarina Vainikainen. Other acters are Kari Heiskanen, Taisto Reimaluoto and Kari Väänänen.
I think that this is maybe the best finnish movie 'cause the acters and the story are so good. War movies are quite interesting. Of course I know many other great finnish movies but this is maybe the best. "Rukajärven tie" is also well-known, almost every finnish person has seen, or at least heard of it. Absolutely great movie, I recommend!

Actor Markku Peltola died last week
I just read on YLE that Markku Peltola died. A pity. I remember him from the movie Mies vailla menneisyyttä (Main role), Vares and Kauas pilvet karkaavat. Sad thing, he was a good actor and only 51 years old.
