Dave... it doesn`t matter, what your professor thinks it´s about. Into modern poems (or lyrics) everybody must interpret his/her OWN thoughts (because that`s what modern poetry is about... it´s reflecting a feeling in the world nowadays.... and if it`s for instance a BAD feeling, it doesn´t matter, if it comes from war, hate, illness etc. > everybody has a different life and the meaning of the poem must be transferred on your own experiences and thoughts... and from that basis you can comment on details and what they might mean and be caused by. And if you write a full and honest text about it (putting all your heart in it), then it must be accepted (and if your pro doesn´t, then you can go one step higher... director or whatever), because modern poetry isn´t interpreting someone else`s thoughts, it´s interpreting your own thoughts on the basis someone else wrote. Only if you would write NOTHING about the topic (or only some general sentences without going deeper into the topic) only THEN you can fail.... as long as you wrote YOUR interpretation about it, you cannot fail, because then it´s what it was supposed to be!

Hope he listens to you ;D Yeah, that's what I also think about it; the problem is that past year, as long as I'm concerned, a lot of people failed... and I also remember that professor failing my ex-girl for reasons I never understood, although it was on an exam on translation. I don't know what would happen, I've done exactly what you've said, I wrote down what the poem said to me, but since I don't know if this guy does what you say or what the bollocks. Anyway I don't care too much, it's only that since I've dfone what you say, I wouldn't know what I'd do in case I fail
