Mosquitoes in summer can be a pain in the ass (and everywhere else, for that matter) as they really eat you alive if you move somewhere in the woods at that time, but I don't believe they will still be there in September.

Thank you all for your answers. I hope the people who will be giving us the horses also have some of that spray just in case the "little beasts" are still around in September.

Heres a question I have been wondering... What kind of jobs are there in Finland for somone who wants to spend a few months there? More particularly an American... would be a real cool thing to be able to do that and have a job that could at least pay for rent and beer money!

Unfortunately it's pretty hard to find a job even for those who spend their lives in here. The only jobs I can think of would be an english-speaking clerk or guide, but for the later one you'd need to know the places pretty well. Edit: Maybe the U.S. embassy of Helsinki could help? finland.usembassy.gov/

I guess this is worth of mentioning: The Google streetview maps of Finland are up! And not just the major cities, but even the smaller ones and hundreds, if not thousands of kilometers of rural roads are included. The link leads to the main road of my home village where I was born and raised Edit: It looks like the whole damn country is covered, excluding only private- and really small forest roads.

I just noticed that some roads in the middle Finland haven't been photographed yet, but Lapland seems to be pretty well covered

I just noticed that some roads in the middle Finland haven't been photographed yet, but Lapland seems to be pretty well covered I checked some small places I know: Ii, Haukipudas are covered. So is Sodankylä, but not Luosto. The streetview follows the Karigasniemi-Utsjoki road until about halfway up, then stops, and they didn't seem to make it to Nuorgam Very interesting, good pics, a great way to waste time when I should be sleeping instead

How can you know which places are covered? I cannot find any of my most favorite places in this view. Maybe i do not know how to check it properly...

If the guy on the top of the zoom slider is yellow, then there's viewable roads on the screen. Drag him around the map and the roads and streets that have been photographed will be highlighted. You can just drop him on any of those roads to see them

I think Finland is very nice land, with beautiful nature, good culture and interesting history. Last summer i was in Karelia (inside Russia) for 2 weeks, its nature was great. Also i read finnish-karelian epos Kalevala, it s very nice. And, of course, i like the band Korpiklaani =)
