How downloading TV series, movies or software is any less judgeable than downloading music? Making those takes just as much creativity and is atleast as hard work. Could it be because musicians always appear as personalized characters unlike screenwriters and many directors, thus bringing more personal feel to their work? No-one cares if South Park writer(s) lose their work since no-one even knows their names

TV shows don't depend on DVD sales, but musicians do depend on album sales. TV shows get most of their money from the advertising deals and don't need big sales numbers- that's why network TV is free. Animators and writers are also paid in set wages, as opposed to musicians, who directly depend on their sales for their livelihood.

Ok, I have to admit that I made propably the worst argument ever... ...and South Park was a bad example because those guys really have brought themselves up in the media ;D Back to the design table...

I don't buy TV show, it's so expensive and I prefere to buy Album and Stuff of a band (Exemple : 50 euros this week for CD and Stuff of KORPIKLAANI) than TV-show. But I will make an exception for a french TV-show : Kaamelott. It's so fun, I like a lot. But I will wait the end of this TV Show (11 seasons if I don't make a mistake) and I will buy the collector box (I suppose that they will make a collector-box).

I buy mp3 downloads off Amazon all the time. To me it's more convenient than buying a CD 1. because when I want a track I want it NAO, and 2. The 2 record stores here in the Burgh don't have the variety I need. I do though have all my Korpi albums in hardcopy - just because self conflicting is fun!

Like I said.. I really like the method Trent Reznor used on his latest work.
He offered it up online for files only or files and the CD when it was released.
I've had the files on my PC for ages but for the whole 15 dollars I spent I just got two discs in the mail.

I don't "force my computer to search" for music, I just sometimes look if I can find few songs. Sometimes it effects my buying decisions, sometimes not.

On a slightly different note, what about buying a CD, ripping it to your computer and MP3 player and then selling the CD?

i must admit i download all my music.. :/ but if i like that CD, i buy it, IF i find it. i recently bought two CDs of Stam1na. i had to order them at the shop, cause it's impossible to get finnish music in here, except for HIM or Nightwish. i also asked if there's a possibility to get any KK records, but they said no.. :s so i am enjoying my downloaded music for now

On a slightly different note, what about buying a CD, ripping it to your computer and MP3 player and then selling the CD? That seems scummy, but I can't really explain why. Sure, it was bought and legally sold for resale, but it seems like if one sells it, they shouldn't have it anymore. How would musicians prefer that fans (or potential fans) handle the fact that sometimes it is impossible to get a CD where they are or even buy a legal audio file online? On one hand, it is theft. On the other hand, the person would be thrilled to buy the material if they could find it and/or will likely spend a ton of money on a concert at a later date buying tickets, a few shirts, and probably a CD or three should that person ever have the chance to see the band. This is sort of related, but I hope labels and bands don't start eliminating things from youtube. When I am in the mood to discover new music, I've found loads of things looking at the related stuff that comes up and playing that. That's how I found Korpiklaani and I'm happy I did.

Ordering an album online takes about a minute longer than downloading the track, and downloading the track legally isn't any harder. Don't lie to yourself and think "oh well, atleast I tried to buy that album" if your local record store doesn't have it
