This is a really good idea, to have a separate thread. I got some great links today from a local Finn who has a doctorate degree in Kantele music. Here is his doctoral thesis on kantele, including some details about runo-singing in some sections (especially Chapter 1). The whole thing can be found here: www.people.iup.edu/rahkonen/kantele/diss/Title.htmAnd for Finnish speakers, here is a wonderful site that has a huge collection of runo- and kantele-songs from the archives of SKS, complete with lyrics and midi-files so you can listen! This site is amazing and I could spend hours clicking through the different tunes. Type in 'kantele' or 'runosävelmät' and click on 'Hae' to get relevant results. virtuaaliyliopisto.jyu.fi/esavelmat/haku.php#Once you have some lyrics and a nice melody to sing, you can learn a particular style of kantele here, Sibelius Academy's folk music site. There are some videos you can view to learn the basics of kantele: www.etno.net/index.php?id=77&la=en (I'm not really too familiar with the different styles of playing, but this one seems well suited to accompany singing, since it uses a strumming method)

We definite Kantele Music EthnoMusicology. No shit, Sherlock! Everything which deals about studying traditional music around the world is called ethnomusicology. I'd recommend to bring something new into a conversation, which deals a little more bigger aspects, like ie. this topic. The idea is to share knowledge between every forum user. If you have a link suggestion, go ahead, link it here. Or if you have a question, just ask. It's a little annoying to babble only something self-evident chic-chat which everyone can figure out. It seems only to be written just because of the writing itself. Please, not like this anymore..
