Everyone has some things that are important to him/her. It can be because it is connected to other people, or just because it is so utterly practical. It can range from simple to complicated, from ugly to beautiful and from very common to exclusive. I start with one of the utterly practical things: My Nokia
My Nokia 6030 is one of my best ‘thing’-friends. Though he is not so special or advanced, he has no GPS, no camera, but… I could not live without him. He is not brand new anymore, a piece of his black skin broke off and his little screen is scratched severely. His memory for text messages is far too small; I have to erase messages all the time. He hardly can keep 100 messages (without transferring each message by hand to his permanent memory), which is far too little. Yep, he has some games, but i never have time to play.
But he makes it possible to stay in touch with my kids, family and (foreign) friends from where-ever i may be. he saves me the search for a public phone everywhere, and i do not have to stay at home to wait if i expect a phonecall. So, he makes me more free!
Sometimes I forget to take him with me, and then after a while, I remember his presence and miss him. At a few occasions I drove back for over one hour to pick him up.
From time to time my friend has memory troubles; he can be quite forgetful and pretends not to remember my other (human) friends. Then I open his belly and take out his guts, I know this sounds a little cruel, but it is the only way to end these mental troubles. After I put him together again, and my human friends have miraculously returned! Okay, I can understand that it is a little hard for him that he is not my only friend, so I guess he is just a bit jealous.
He is self-willed also; he has his very own ringtone policy. He ‘lost’ most of the ringtones that he had when I bought him, no idea how this could have happened. I use him as my alarm clock, and usually I choose the simple Nokia tune for waking up. Some days he wakes me up with this familiar sound, but many days he just says ‘ping’ once, and keeps on flashing his little screen… quite useless, because I cannot see it from my bed. Some days he does not even give any sound, but just does the flashing. Luckily I wake always by myself in time, but I do not want him to feel useless, that’s why I set his alarm clock. The same ringtone troubles I have with calls or text messages. The ringtones vary from hour to hour, no matter how often I set those. When I am at school, I put my Nokia in the ‘silent’ mode, but that does not help. Every text message causes a screaming loud attention signal accompanied by fast trembling, so fast that he often ends up on the floor.
Because I am quite forgetful myself, I lose him from time to time. It takes always a thorough search to find him back. Of course I try to call him first, so that he knows I am still thinking of him. Usually you can hear from the sound where he is, but since he likes to play ‘hide and seek’, he often decides to go into the real silent mode, and keeps quiet. Hmm, he is honest in a way, because later on his display shows the missed calls… MY missed calls!
From time to time I am thinking about a brand new Nokia, but always before I could buy one, my money is gone… not that I believe in the magical powers of a cell phone
*oh oh, he is hungry again, oddly enough that sound never changes He needs food about once a week, well... there you go, my boy. ;D

There's several things that I really need to have with me to feel comfortable whenever I leave the house. I can go and buy some milk quickly without some of them, but if I'm to meet some people I always need to wear them and have them with me. Outside the usual keys, phone and wallet the most important one is my bag. I feel really naked and uneasy if I don't have it with me. The bag itself doesn't have too much emotional value, I've had a few of them and if the old one breaks or if I need otherwise a better one I just replace it. The bag is covered in band patches, studs etc. and I always transfer them to the next bag. The next important thing is my necklaces and amulets: I currently wear a self-made moose horn sunwheel, algiz rune and Hiiden Hirwi symbol that I got with Poropetra's Sinihirwi album. Sometimes I forget to wear them and when I notice it I feel really uneasy. I've been looking for Kalevalakoru's "Kuusamon kirves" -amulet for ages. It's a discontinued model so the ones I find in online auctions are always too expensive. I suppose I have enough stuff around my neck after I get that one Third thing is my wristbands, which really aren't that important but still I have to wear them always. I've made some by myself and I should make a lot more, too bad I'm realy not that good in handicrafts. Currently I'm wearing five leather bands and I would wear more but they aren't long enough to get around my arm as they are made to fit around wrist

One important thing for me is an elk called Pirki. I drag it along anywhere I stay at least overnight. My mother gave it to me as a present right after I started studying in 2003 with the words "So you don't forget about us in case you move to Finland one day." She knew me better than I myself About two years ago I crocheted a black scarf for the elk, which it now wears during winter. I really cannot imagine not taking Pirki with me when travelling. It has slept in tents, it has seen a lot of places - and one day it accidentally ended up in the washing machine as well. That was really a bad day because I never wanted to wash it but then it must have hid between the laundry and I hadn't seen it. Well, it survived anyway. Another thing I wouldn't give away for any money in the world is my bag. When I was a kid I always wanted to have such a bag but obviously those kind of bags were "out" at that time and I couldn't find one. My brother however still had one of those and one day, maybe it was my birthday, I got the same bag from my parents. They had bought it from my brother

The main thing that I feel lost without is my stuffed snowman (ironically, his name is Snowman). I'll have a terrible night if I don't have him while sleeping. It's to the point that if I somehow lose him in the middle of the night, I'll wake up and rummage through the sheets until he's retrieved. I have a blue and white striped blanket that has almost the same level of importance. It has to go on top of the rest of the blankets so that I can pull it up to my chin. If I lose it, it's about the same as Snowman; I'll wake up and retrieve it. My other special thing would have to be my rocker/recliner chair. I can count the number of times that I've actually sat on my couch because I'm always in my chair! If I'm at somebody's home, I will generally look for a chair that is similar to sit in, but it's still not the same.

The special things for me... let me think... Heh, I also have a Nokia 6030, I have this mobile phone for more than two years, now it's very scratched, its backwall always tries to peel off, and some bastard carved a word "f*ck" on it... but I really love my phone, it supported me in all my life situations since I got it, for example, when we go to any gig with friends, I must coordinate everyone - or, when I was in love, I've been writing over than a hundred of SMS'es to my girlfriend every day... The second special thing for me is the mp3-player, COWON iAudio 7, which was presented to me by my father. I can't go out anywhere without music, in spite of some injuries it has (for example, the volume regulator has been broken, so my iAudio plays only loud... and sometimes its sensors start to behave really mad, when the player is used in the subway - I try to collect money to fix it). I really can't choose any more material things, which are really special for me. The most special for me are, of course, my friends - but I can't call them "things", so I guess that I can't mention them in this topic.

The thing without which I never leave my flat are my keys... Sounds normal, but to me it means independence and a bit of freedom - to come and to go, when I want to... Another important thing is a ring I always wear. I got it from my best friend and since she can not always be with me, the ring does. She is like a sister to me, that's why that ring is very special to me. And at school, I always have pictures of my family members with me, because those guys are most important to me - more than anything else.

Mmm.... I have a pillow that my family has been trying to burn for years. Suppose it barely qualifies as a pillow anymore, just some shrinking filling that's been recased several times. But the thing is being buried with me, I so refuse to part with it. I've had it since childhood and when I would summer with my grandparents a few states away, I would always have it to cry my tears into when it came time to go home. To this day it's very scent and contour in my arms brings me such comfort when I am sad or also brings back such memories for me. I used to bring it with me on long trips but at some point realized that it could be lost! So it stays home waiting for me. Once, when I was very much in love, I took some of the filling out and sewed a mini pillow for my beloved so he could have a piece of me as he was going to be away. And really, my mother has been trying to destroy this thing for decades! But I'm very protective of it!

I have my stuffed dog called "Jonathan". I had to borrow money of my mother to buy him in February 1974! He usually sits at home on my bed, but when I go traveling he is always in my luggage. He has been to Inuvik in Canada, to Melbourne Australia, Ivalo Finland. On his last trip he had to travel on a yak cart in Mongolia. I am sure he protects me on my journeys.

According to this I need my rings, I feel naked without them and of course my hat and my jacket which my friends gave me. And last but not least I always care a pick in my wallet to be ready to play guitar wherever I am

I am reviving this thread! I have quite a few special things I've collected... some of them: My wooden pint. Ever since I started listening to Korpiklaani the thing I wanted the most was a wooden pint... But they're almost impossible to get in Israel... So when one of my best friends visited russia and brought me back a wooden pint I was so happy It was one of my favorite things ever since! And in October I got it signed by all Korpiklaani members so now its ever more special... In this pic I'm holding it right after getting the autographs: f.nau.co.il/upload/Xternal/IsraBlog/14/87/00/8714/posts/19620677.jpgAnother thing I realy love is my Jew's harp... Yes, the same little instrument that makes weird background sounds on many folk songs. I had another one but it was broken... And then my boy friend got me this one, it was the first thing he ever gave me. On the shelve above my bad I have a skull sculpture with a clowns hat, I dont know why it means so much to me but absolutely love it... The hat was given to me by a guy I'm no longer in touch with, but we used to be pretty close... And like Nordis, I feel really weird and naked if I forget to put one of my necklaces on: either a Wacken amulet (the cow skull), or my wolf amulet that I've been wearing for something like 6-7 years now: www.alchemygroup.com/blowup/P252.jpgAnd last one for now (wouldn't want to bore you all to death ) is the Iron Maiden drumstick I caught at their concert in Wacken 2008!

I didn't really think I got attached to stuff like jewelry, but lately I feel weird in the workshop when I'm not wearing my grad ring and my mjolnir...I also feel weird when I'm not wearing a studded belt I got in grade 6 (about 6 years ago), it was too big for me then, and almost still is now despite extra holes.
I never leave the house without my wallet, key chain and phone, they are almost always in my pockets even when I'm at home. I'm not too attached to my specific phone though, I broke it not long ago and needed to buy a new one, looking back now I liked the old one better, but only from a functionality point of view...
My bass is special to me, I play almost every day if there is time, although once again I'm not so attached to mine specifically, I just need a bass period.
I guess I would also feel weird if my tattoo was gone, but then again that's kind of the point of one isn't it?

Since I made my Kk bag, I kinda dislike the others I own, hehe. So I guess that for many reasons it became very special and feels weird when a few days pass and I don't carry it with me. Tis my (not so) new special thing.

I just realised how special my keyring is...not only does it carry my keys, but I have a bunch of semi useful stuff on it, like a light/laser pointer, bottle opener, thors hammer, lanyard....I guess thats why I don't mind carrying it around all the time
