Last night l finished the translated version of Anita Albus's ,,Paradies und Paradox"...it took me more than usual to read it because the reproductions of Joris Hoefnagel gave to eyes the pleasure of admiring beautiful paintings. Art&knowledge, that's what this book is about: Abraham 0rtelius, Guillaume Postel, Carl von Linne, Goncourt brothers, the magician painter Vermeer..

Now I'm reading Terry Pratchett's "Jingo" again... (Pratchett is one of my favourite fantasy writers), before that I've read Pratchett's "Truckers", Koji Suzuki's "Rasen" and "Rupu", Andrzei Sapkowski's "Bozy Bojownicy", Hasek's novels about the good soldier Svejk and Julius Evola's "Cavalcare La Tigre"... also I'm reading now Dostoyevsky's "Besy" (in English - "The Possessed"), because it can be read only very slowly. Next'll be Snorri Sturluson's "Heimskringla", Ernst Junger's Politische Publizistik, Oswald Spengler's "Der Untergang des Abendlandes", some book about Conan the Barbarian - I forgot its title, then some Rene Guenon's books, and also I'm going to re-read Kalevala.

I finished to read "The strees of her regard" by Tim Power, it was interesting because it's not the type of literature that I use to read, it was a bit scared An now I'm reading "World without end" by Ken Follet, I was impressed with the frist "The pillars of the Earth" and now I'm enjoying this second part a lot

Terry Pratchett, Croc? Good, l'm a fan too. Have you read his colab with Neil Gaiman? I laughed like hell while reading it. Up until two years ago, l thought J.R.R. Tolkien was enough for me when it came to fantasy or fiction literature. Meanwhile l've changed my mind and love George Martin, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Lois McMaster Bujold and few others... Right now l read Stieg Larsson's second novel of The Millenium series.

Pratchett's colab with Neil Gaiman? Strange, I haven't heard anything about it yet... maybe it's not translated on Russian. But I'll try to find it - because Gaiman is also one of my fave writers, I think that "American Gods" is a true masterpiece.

Search for ,,Good Omens" ; that's the title of their collaboration. Also try Brandon Sanderson's ,,Elantris"...can't believe l recommend fantasy titles ... Funny thing: this morning l found out that what l'm reading now is going to be on screens....they're going to make a film inspired by S.Larsson's Millenium series..

The last good novel I read was "Sword of the North" by Richard White. It's a historical novel about Jarl Henry Sinclair of Scotland and his theorized journey to North America in the 1300s. It's now one of my very favorite books, lots of strong characters and action.
Lately I've been reading several history books, but when I finish those I'm considering looking up "the Analects of Confucius".

I went through Selma Lagerlöf's ,Charlotte Lövensköld' and C. Levi-Strauss's ,Tristes tropique' because l've read those book long time ago and l couldn't remember some things. Tonight l'm starting Rafael Abalos 's ,,Grimpow" ; tis for youngsters, but it suits me as well they say tis similar with Umberto Eco' ,Name of the rose'

Karhunkaataja Ikä-Alpi by Arto Paasilinna. This is the first book of the author who would later write huge collection of best sellers. It's a short memoir of an old bear hunter where he tells about some of the best hunts he had back in the 40's. The book made me a bit ashamed about myself and my whole generation: show me a person who could chase a bear or a wolf for two days on skis up and down the fjells, having just a short sleep under the sky in a winter night of Lapland More likely, show me a person who would even dare to sleep in an open forest within just a small shelter made out of twigs.

Nordis, there are also a few romanian writers who were also great hunters. For instance, M.Sadoveanu was a big hunter &fisherman and he gave us splendid hunting stories...last year l went to his memorial house l covld admire the weapons he used and an interesting trophy... Yeah, true men.... But there are a few nowadays too. I know one: he's a ranger and lives in the ,,old ways" ...

Now reading Boris Rybakov's documentary, about Slavonic and Russian heathenism - two heavy books, you probably can kill someone with them and now I'm reading a topic about the ancient hunting magic.
