That before going to read only a set of books in english...classics, of course ;D En garde!

Oh, Sabatini, talk about blast from the past! I remember reading Sabatini's Captain Blood many distant years ago and enjoying it a whole lot ;D

Ended the Stephen King's "Carrie". Quite good book about girl coming from famiy where her mother is a religious fanatic and she has some strange views of life; she bans her daughter ofseeing friends, going on the school partys etc. But some day she goes and something bad happens... Girl has strong psychokinetic abilities, which she uses to revenge on school mates... Good book, but I think that Graham Masterton shows burning people more empathically.

My opinion - the best King's book is "It". Try it.

Currently reading Maragret Weis & Tracy Hickmans Dragonlance, Forgotten Chronicles 2: Dragons of the Highlord Skies. Kinda addicted to the world of Krynn and so on. ;D Other favourite writers include Pratchet and Johanna Sinisalo.

I just saw that exact same book on the shelf of a local bookstore the other day and wondered if it's any good.. Is it? It was on sale for 50% off. I know nothing about Dragonlance, so would it make any sense for me or will I be lost if I attempt it?

I've read only the Chronicles Trilogy... The first is "Dragons Of Autumn Twilight", then it's followed by "Dragons of Winter Night" and "Dragons of Spring Dawning".

Hmm...haven't seen that in librairies..yet! Today l really felt like reading some of George R.R. Martin's work..or of Marion Zimmer Bradley.. Anyway, l had fun rereading Scaramouche after so many years. Now l must devour David Lodge's ,art of fiction' in pararell with Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, also a rereading ,but in English this time..

I have George RR Martin's "Game of Thrones" and heard good things about it, still haven't gotten around to reading it. From all I've heard, it's kind of like a fantasy "Wars of the Roses", but I'm not in a mood for courtly intrigues so for now it's waiting on the shelf for its day.
I'm still on my heroic/swords'n'sorcery fantasy binge... Just finished the first two books in Moorcock's Elric series, though I'd hardly call that 'heroic' fantasy. There's an atmosphere of such skepticism and sardonicism in these books that I do wonder if Moorcock himself believed in what he was writing - and of course it's only when the author really does believe in his plot and characters that literature of this genre really soars...
Walkyrie, what's your favorite Canterbury tale?

Thanks for the map, it sure puts things in perspective... what a huge yarn/tree of tales. I've seen those books standing on the shelves all together, taking up almost a whole bookcase, rows and rows. Forgotten Realms is another huge series - I've been getting these two confused for a while. I've been wondering, what's the difference between the two? Is it simply that each is based on a different RPG and takes place in a different world with its own history and set of characters? (and from the name at least I can tell that one of those more than likely has a few dragons in it, and a lance )
