Somehow, although l'm a big admirer of Aki Kaurismäki's films, l missed watching ARIEL. Well, l did today....yeah, Aki's mark again. I need more time to digest some meanings there.,tis what l like in Kaurismäki's films: the simplicity that puts one's mind at work and the metaphors included in the lines or gestures....oh,and a funny thing: the actor that has the main part in this film made me say ,,hey!that's the finnish Nick Cave!"

I have also watched recently ,,Vicky Cristina Barcelona" (directed by Woody Allen" and enjoyed it a lot; l've started to like Penelope Cruz's acting more &more in the last 2 years. All in all,an enjoyable film &l recommend it! Plus you get to see Gaudi's work at times . Oh, l've also seen Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino....a lesson for some...for me, tis all bout Clint: young, old, with or without poncho , that's a real man..

I actually want to see "Gran Torino" soon, it's still showing in theaters here. Clint Eastwood's got more class and kick-assery than any and all those upstart Hollywooders combined... I've only seen the previews of this film so far and he's so intense and awesome even in those tiny fragments. He's a dying breed sadly, just as his character in "Gran Torino" is a dying breed... They sure don't make them like that no more!

I thing that I rent it as soon as possible. This evening I want to see Wolverine at the cinema. I like very much this kind of movie and Wolverine is the most interesting personage than others of the series. This is the english trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=72Nb67DRw7MI thing that everyone of you know it

@ learntokill
Wolverine is a film I'm tempted to see. I agree this is a very interesting character, and his story is bound to be interesting too... darker than the other X-Men. I've never been a fan of X-Men, but Wolverine with his claws and his savage scowl seemed so intriguing. I may wait for Sunday morning to see it, movie tickets are half price before 12 o'clock :-)
Did anyone see Crank 2: High Voltage? What did you think?

Just back from watching "Terminator - Salvation". I grew up with the first two Terminator films being my favorite movies ever by the time I was ten, so I'm very invested in this story. And let me tell you, this new sequel is magnificent. Cinematography, visual effects, sound editing - f'kin superb! I'm not a big fan of computer generated effects cause you know it's all an illusion, but the visuals here have been done so masterfully that I believed it 100% and was wholly invested in the story, and it kept me on the edge of my seat - sometimes even literally.
The real key to the Terminator films is the human factor - the humanity in face of the inhumane, and that is what makes the first two movies so moving and so believable, and what makes "Terminator 3" such a lame failure (it was all about FX and big chase scenes and was so damn flat). "Terminator - Salvation"' has got that human factor that its predecessor has been lacking, and it adds substance and a deal of emotional involvement to all those layers of special effects. But let's not forget, it's still a first-rate sci-fi action thriller, and it f'kin delivers!!! Even old Arnold makes a cameo appearance.
The hardcore fan has spoken ;D If it's a genre you find interesting, don't miss it and see it in the theater, it's meant for a big screen! Highly recommended.

Thank you Hjalagh for letting me know! I will have to watch it then, I was a little weary of it, considering that it is a long awaited continuation of one of my favorite movie concepts growing up, and hollywood usually does a horrible job of continuing scripts after so many years. My only turn off was Christian Bale, I don't know why, but after seeing him in the first Batman movie he played in, I was totally uninterested in his acting. But then again, he was also American Psycho, so it balances itself out. I absolutely love Terminator, through and through. I grew up watching it as a kid and it was so amazing, the story line and everything completely attracted me. I still recall all the toys and memorabilia when the first two were out, not to mention playing Terminator games on good ol' Nintendo. I try not to watch these movies too often, that way that same childhood spark remains in them, but I am due to see them again. And now I have the new one to add to my list.

Terminator on 8-bit Nintendo, now that was the shit!
Christian Bale's performance in "Terminator- Salvation" is gritty and down to earth, he's channeling a hard working soldier in this one and not some hawttie that he was known for in his younger days. Chris Worthington's performance is great too - I've never seen him in a movie before and I'm surprised at how underused he is as a leading action/thriller type actor. He's got way more personality than all those Jack Stathams or Dwayne Johnsons, and some great ass-kickery to back it up too.
Basically once the CGI effects took over, the *real* action heroes became obsolete - now all the action sequences are montaged or over-edited or spliced in a fast-paced sequence, and there's no longer a need to have actual talent/skill in fighting. Stallone used to do his own stunts back in the day, as did Schwarzenegger. Both were bodybuilders, and Chuck Norris was a black belt in martial arts. Dolph Lundgren was a professional also. Van Damme, though too much of a prima donna, also knows his martial arts. But watching action flicks nowadays doesn't give the same old kick, because you know all those sequences are super-edited and actors didn't have to do any real fighting, and you don't even see the details of fights either.
But like I said earlier, this new "Terminator" sequel is full of awesome cutting edge effects, but it still makes you forget you're watching effects and really feels like being in a warzone. I'm totally going to see it again, maybe a matinee for half the price lol.

Was rewatching a favorite I highly recommend: "Brotherhood of the Wolf" www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSjvrlDxlaQI think this is a wonderful movie but I've found that it only feels right when watched in the original French if you don't mind subtitles. I can not watch it in English, it just doesn't have the same effect. A great movie, in my opinion. Also, about Christian Bale... had heard his Terminator performance was kind of rough. Haven't had the chance to see for myself yet. As Hjalagh, I grew up watching the earlier ones so I'm a bit cautious. Bale though was PERFECT in American Psycho and if anyone is into sci-fi, his film "Equilibrium" was also excellant: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlqpfV9marA

It's becoming harder and harder to watch movies as they all seem garbage to me..kant say why! I tried to rewatch 2 of Bertolucci's early productions and even those bored me. I know I'm forever doomed to watch european films..and to forever praise Kaurismaaaaaaki!!!!! ;D The only film l'd watch today is Kristin Lavransdottir, but l don't have it oh! And ,Baba's garage" if I'm not mistaken...

I just watched Gran Torino a few days ago and enjoyed it much better than I thought I would. I just wasn't sure of the storyline, but figuring that it was Clint Eastwood I wanted to give it a chance and loved it. Clint Eastwood is an excellent actor, and has of late done excellent work in directing and writing the movies himself. He is a true bad ass, and I think he is even more of a bad ass in GT than in his other movies. Just goes to show age means nothing to this man. Another movie I just watched after a good friend told me about it during a late-night conversation, is "Equilibrium". Never heard of this movie until he pointed it out to me a few months ago, only to remind me of it again not too long ago. Amazing storyline, a concept I have always seen as really important and was relating a lot with my current state of mind. That movie turned Christian Bale back into a good actor for me. After batman I could barely stand him, but now after watching this movie I am reminded of the Christian Bale from American Psycho, and now I can watch the new terminator without worrying about it. European films are assuredly the best. I haven't seen many latlely since I have to download all of mine and hope that if they are anything other than German that they have subtitles with them. Thankfully I love German films, once again I think the movies could suck but I would love them simply because of the language. That is how I am with everything European, I take such a delight in the language that even if the message isn't gooid I could love it. BUt with European films I have never been dissapointed even on the storyline, they are always genuine and moving, not like hollywood crap. My favorite director so far is Werner Herzog, and my favorite actor, perhaps of all time, is Klaus Kinske. It took me some getting used to watching Herzog's films at first because I have been overloaded with Hollywood crap, but it didn't take long for me to be sucked in. Klaus' amazing acting is just unrivaled. Especially after watching the "Mein Liebster Feind" documentary about Herzog's relationship with Kinske, I felt an even deeper love for him. It's too bad that just like most cases, he did not live long enough. If anyone knows where I can find some European films to download, and has some recommendations, please let me know. I still have so much more to watch.
