Great thread, naturally very fitting! Ironically however, I don't know a whole lot of Finnish Metal and Rock bands, at least since I have discovered these newer ones. I am sure many of the black metal bands I listened to growing up came out of Finland, but since many of their lyrics were in English or unable to understand, haha, I only began to know through time that some were Finnish. The ones that I can think of off the top of my head however: Moonsorrow: One of my favorites, I absolutely love their lengthy songs and their very moving riffs. Getting to see them live amidst Korpiklaani was as great of a concert as you could ask for. Truly moving performance, I was spellbound the whole time they played. Although already mentioned: Amorphis: I even enjoy their new stuff, but nothing beats the originals with "The Karelian Isthmus" and "Tales from the thousand lakes" of which I remember listening to years ago when my brother first introduced them to me. The riffs are powerful, and always will be a part of me. Nightwish: Not too big of a fan of their new stuff, but Nightwish was one of the first Finnish bands I got into, I remember seeing their DVD and hearing the music for the first time, I loved it, although very few around me did (most americans hearing "opera" style vocals is almost always frowned upon, granted that has changed with a great amount as of late), so it was a little kept secret, and to this day whenever I listen to "Wishmaster" or "Oceanborn" I get visions of the Mountains of Wyoming, since these two albums were one of the only two I listened to on my vacation there as a child. Turisas: Their music is naturally great, and their stage presence is even better. Ensiferum: I'm sure these last few, or this whole list, for that matter, need no introduction. (They are coming for the Summer Slaughter tour here, but I will miss out on it... sucks having no money!) Finntroll: Of course, especially when one is in the drinking kind of mood, KK and Finntroll always goes great together. Värtinnä- Although not "metal", they do have some Rock influence, and anything with Folk roots is something I always love. Their music is absolutely wonderful, and they are wonderful performers. This band is actually from Russia, but since they have a Finnish name and some Finnish lyrics and themes, I will include them anyway: Kauan: I discovered them not too long ago, and I love their music. Both the dark and cold sounds of "Lumikuuro" and the Folk Doom of their latest "Tietäjän Laulu". I know many more, but since I have been listening to more traditional Folk lately my mind is only recalling that style while Metal and Rock projects sit somewhere in the background, waiting to come out. I am interested to hear of more though, perhaps the native Finns on this forum can share with us some more unheard of but totally awesome projects. Here in the states it is hard to come across Finnish music unless they are signed under a more well-known label or if you search long on the internet (of which I must do frequently, 1,000 different Finnish bands just isn't enough, I need my fix!!!)

I like some of these you (Anwend and Tina) mentioned - Turisas, Finntroll, Ensiferum, Moonsorrow. Nightwish I like very much with Tarja and so-so with Anette (mainly because of Marco ). And of course Tarot - with the two Hietala bros. Not to forget the classic - Stratovarius. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNN16aePEAEAlso the different formations and projects where the members of Stratovarius participate. I like very much Altaria - Valley Of Rainbows is the ringtone of my mobile phone. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlwgo_tLOl0

I thought and made a list, but i'll post it in portions,as l gathered a lot of bands and thoughts. Ajatarra: l like both ,,Itse" and ,,Kuolema." although l prefer Itse..violent melodic and hypnotic music. And still have no idea what they're saying after all these years! ;D Insomnium: i always immediately start to sing Daughter of the Moon when l think of them. Again melody and force! To be continued...

Recently I've been listening to quite a bit Battlelore and Sonata Arctica. But I have to think that KK and Nightwish are my favorites. Of course, the first Finnish band I ever enjoyed was Hanoi Rocks! Waaaayyyy back in the day!!

When she saw them live not too far from here (same venue KK played at), she stayed in the same hotel they were at and got his autograph, haha, she was speechless for months. I have only heard some Tarot, and I have enjoyed it. I think Marco is a very good musician and from his interviews and the like, a very kind soul.

Children of Bodom,Impaled Nazarene,Lordi,Nightwish(Tarja),Terasbetoni are my favorite Finnish bands.Usually I listen Imp Naz when i play resident evil .Lordi and Terasbetoni make us remember eurovision but i don't mind eurovision.I like Nightwish but they had executed themselves .In my opinion Tarja and Apocalyptica must play a song together. It maybe excellent .

The ones I can recommend are: CMX (example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE_z4mvoxds; www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrZDtyPbM08) there were one of the first Finnish bands I fell in love with (even before Korpiklaani, I think) and I still can't stop listening to them. Although I cannot grasp the whole beaty of their music (as I don't understand Finnish), they will always be the ones who greatly inspired me :] Zen Café (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTMLw494haY&feature=related) ... not so much of a fan, however, still worth a listen :] Turmion kätilöt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Iqv9ukUtDI&feature=related) if you are into industrial metal (Rammstein, Ruoska) then you'll probably like them :] I don't really love them, however, I sometimes I feel the need to listen to them :] Eppu Normaali (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0zFJ71hGH4) nice band, nice melodies (and lyrics, from what I can gather). :] Tenhi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5kWmRilQjE) neofolk band :] Very nice, relaxing music. I love them! And .. some have already been mentioned: Värttinä!!, Apocalyptica, Turisas, Ensiferum, Nightwish, HIM (the old albums), Stam1na, Kotiteullisuus, Viikate, Maj Karma, Sonata Arctica, Yö ...

And my dear half and musical encyclopedic person, brought Waltari to my ears many moons ago.... I try to find also Ruoska.. And must admit I became more interested in Poropetra only since last year..eh, I'm young,no time waisted ps: maybe we should comment more bout the bands we talk here?

3 wicked bands brought wicked memories : Adramelech with their ,,Pure Blood Doom" , Darkwoods My Betrothed (aaaargh, ,Autumn Roars Thunder"!) and Dawn of Relic with their brutal boombastic style, i wonder what Zaan Juntunen is creating these days...
