This is a new stuff I wrote in my MySpace and Facebook pages:
"Juha Jyrkäs, an electric kantele player and a throat singer, who is known as a lyric writer of Korpiklaani and has an own ethnic rock band Poropetra, started his solo career in a spring 2010. He made a small demo "Rokkia soitan" with Aslak Tolonen in order to test the sound of electric kantele, how it should fit in metal and rock. The results were promising, so Juha wanted to keep forward with his solo project.
At the summer 2010 the name was changed to Jyrkäs. The style and line came more clearer than before, and now it's time to do some good old school hard rock/heavy metal in the vein of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, KISS, Rainbow, Judas Priest, Scorpions and Iron Maiden - with electric kantele. The back up band is now under construction and more about this project will be definitely heard in the future..."

Good to hear you're still moving forward with your solo career... And how interesting to read about the creative process which led to my favourite Korpiklaani song, and my favourite lyrics in Finnish of any song: Väkirauta! It's a masterclass of rhythm, rhyme and alliteration. I'd kinda always knew you wrote it - didn't realise you'd written it so long ago.

Very interesting and detailed interview! You do all this music work with passion and devotion, which deserves only admiration. Also there are other interesting points mentioned - the attitude towards kantele, etc., even the nick-names. I have one question - do you earn enough from your music work ('cause it is a lot of and various), or you need to work something else?

I have one question - do you earn enough from your music work ('cause it is a lot of and various), or you need to work something else? I earn a little bit money, enough to buy electric kantele's, etc. by writing lyrics for Korpiklaani. But as other projects, I haven't earned much. Actually with Poropetra, it has costed me to make music and sell albums. So that's why I'm the post man alongside with my studies and musical activity. With all my projects I'm now at that point that I'm really looking myself a record deal. Specially with Jyrkäs, because that's the project I'm heading to gigs etc. I've made music 13 years only as to my hobby and I think now it's time to get one step further. It would be really cool if one day I don't have to be a postman anymore but a musician in order to feed myself and my woman.

The electric kantele actually sounds really cool. Nice to hear that you are still doing throat singing! Good song too, it reminded me of when I was working at a cafe. I feel your pain.

Here's my solo gig at Uusi Ylioppilastalo, Helsinki. The sound is rough and simplified, because it was only man and electric kantele and not a back up band. Picture is unclear, black and dizzy in many shots, but the feeling, passion, intensivity and attitude can still be heard and that's what matters! The songs are my solo songs, Poropetra songs (two brand new songs and one old) and Tevana 3 (my new black metal/doom metal project) songs. There's even one song from my first band VMMA, back from the 90's. Rest are covers. Feel free to comment videos! And some other news. Old school heavy metal and hard rock band Jyrkäs has inked a deal with a record company. Debut album will come out next year. What we're now looking for is a website designers, designers, marketing people and skilled people with their special gifts, who are willing to help us. If you can help us, or you now somebody, who could help us, just spread the word! Any help we can get, is needed. All the stuff you want to help us, please, write it in the e-mail poropetra ät gmail dot com
