Croc, again detailed and catchy post about some Russian pagan-metal groups. From them I like most Kalevala, because they are very melodic and the lyrics are not bad at all (according to me).
We wrote with Anwend in the "What are you listening" thread about the group Volkolak and Anwend asked about translating some Russian pagan-folk group lyrics, so I'll interfere a little in this thread with some info about Volkolak. I'll make some translation of lyrics in English and I ask Croc and whoever can to make corrections if necessary. I think the idea about translating some Russian pagan-folk group lyrics in English is not bad at all.
The group Volkolak was created in 1997 in the Amur region, the most Eastern part of Russia, near the Chinese border. In some sources was pointed Blagoveshchensk city as place of origin. Volkolak means werewolf in Russian. The band members express strong National Socialist beliefs and White Pride ideals, which leads sometimes even to troubles with the authorities. But these ideas are not reflected so much in their songs' lyrics, even I can say very slightly. Me, as not fan at all of NS stuff, find the lyrics not only acceptable, but interesting and well done. They sound like ancient fairy tales or ballads about pagan gods and rites, glorious warriors and human pride.

White Amur Wolfs Split album with HorSS - 2004
The Raven And The Enemies (EP) - 2004
Slava Yarile (Hail to the God of the Sun) - 2004

Line-up:
Grigori Kirjuhin - Guitar, vocals, vargan, battle horn
Mihail Bylin - Mandoline, bass, backing vocals
Larisa Kirjuhina - Flute, backing vocals
Pavel Burgov - Drums, percussion, backing vocals
In the first albums the songs were melodic with clean vocals. The 2005 album was different - with harsh vocals. In 2006 two of Volkolak members - Grigori and Mihail, under the nicks Volkh (wolf) and Ris (lynx), had side project Volh - black NS metal group and released one album. After five year pause Volkolak released in 2010 their album Sginut, which can be translated "To perish" or "To die". The album is a return to the style of the first albums.

From Podvig Sedogo Korolya (Feat Of The Grey King) - 2002
Eternal FireThe wind is going down to the white earth
Chasing the blue clouds
Flying from the sky on a strong horse
Summoning the strength of fire
Covering the sky with a black wig
The thunder is beginning a dance
The bright fire of the battle axes
Lights a fire in the sky.
Glorious trisna* spreads to the earth
The sky is weeping with rain
A valiant warrior is lying on the grass
His horse is walking round him
He had lost his life in an unequal battle
Saving his native land
The sky is singing this song
The rain is washing his body
The hero acquires eternal life
The fire is growing in the souls
This fire we will carry in our hearts
To light our way ahead
*trisna – a battle hymn, glorifying the fallen in battle
