Yay, Finland won the Eurovision song contest. ;D I guess hell froze - there was a joke that Finland would win the contest only when hell freezes over - so I guess it kind of did. I have never seen Finnish people so happy (I was so little in 1995, when we won gold in ice hockey that I can't remember that well). I was in a bar with friends when they showed the contest on big screen, and everyone was incredibly happy and - drunk. Later on in the evening, we could see people driving in the city with their radios playing Lordi's Hard Rock Hallelujah. People were smiling everywhere This is great, as if it is a carnival of some sort. It's unbelievable, but f***ing awesome. Yay yay, I am so happy, and this is a very useless thread.

No, it's not. As we have already started talking about it in the Good and Bad about Today thread. We are all excited. Haha, and not just because a Finnish band won but because a metal / rock act won. That's what these people deserved. Good to get some more Finnish reactions. I was wondering how the success would be perceived. I heard church was complaining about these EVIL SATANISTS (surprise, surprise), and that some people tried convincing your prime minister of keeping the band from participating. Haha, whatever. It's been at least 17 years since I watched that festival and I had a hell of a time. If hell's frozen over ... fine ... I can't stand hot climates very well. So, that's only good for me.

Well, not so useless, at least for me. SOme of you maybe have seen in the good and bad thread that I asked about how the Eurovision Song contest is lived in your countries. In Spain many people talk about it, but then you really never find nobody that openly says he/she has seen it. It was very famous in spain until the 90's; then it was kiande devaluated, and many times Spain classified in last possition (I wonder why this didn't take place this year) and people lost interest on it. The came the tv program Operacion Triunfo in which some aspirants to singer (and aspirants to get a bit of brain, too) were locked in a a singing academy; the one who won would go to Eurovision. Ok, that program made Spanish people be interested on it again. We send there a kind of meat ball called Rosa who didn't know how to speak in Spanish (or at least I didn't understand a thing of what she barked) abd people get very angry beacuse she didn't won . So for a couple of years it seemed that people was interested on Eurovision again, but now again people seems to mind the bollocks about it. Anyway, everybody has heard the song that goes for Spain, even me, it's impossible not to hear it. Byt as I tell you, nobody tells you openly that they watch that contest. Ok, my question is, do people in your countries like that contest very much, they don't mind or they hate it? For what I saw yesterday while I was having my dinner, there are some countries in which people give much value to this. Second: why the Spanish woman that announced Spanish votes were the only one who spoke in French? Third: why do you think Spain get any vote for that stupid song? Don't you think "Las Ketchup" should be neck-hanged from Columbus statue? And don't you think the responsible of chosing those 4 illiterates should be cut his balls for giving, once again, the image of Spanish as a country of Sevillanas, Bullfighting and rednecks? Four: Why it has been needed 40 years for a rock band to win this?

I guess the general interest in Germany is similar than that in Spain. The show is a nostalgic childhood memory but participants over the last years were so bad and embarrassing that tehy aren't even worth mentioning. We sent comedy acts who weren't doing that bad and were actually kinda funny (Stefan Raab). I think the French announced their votes in French as well and Andorra. ;-) I didn't even now they took part. Is there anything more than three stores selling duty-free stuff in that country? And I am sure you will find fellow hangmen for your Las Ketchup attack. Although there were even worse acts. That Russian guy annoyed the hell out of me. Plastic face, a mullet ( ?) and a song that is so bland and boring. Well, that's the show. Plastic faces and bland songs. But hey, Lordi won. I see this as a victory of the European metal scene. I bet every metal head went out to vote. Even I and many of my friends did and we would have never bothered to waste a text message on that crappy show before (and probably after).

I´m so happy!!!!!!!!I´m not a fan of this contest but i always watch it anyway; most of the songs are so bad but every year there´s also few songs which are quite alright. This year for exemble Norway´s song was very beautiful, I wished that it would have got more points but no.. I also liked Bosnia Herzigovina´s song a little bit and Russia was quite alright too. I remember ever since Lordi won the finnish selections there´s been a huge discussion around them - both in Finland and abroad and that brought us to the victory. ESC is based on a show and whoever has the biggest show (almost everytime) wins. But still it keeps suprising me because i was almost certain that europe isn´t ready for lordi; the song wasn´t even hard rock but almost 80´s pop but their image is too much for some people, i thought. But what happened then! We won! Lordi didn´t only make the Eurovision history for reaching the highest points ever (292) but it will definatelly change the image of the future eurovision; - They all want to copy Lordi next year so there´ll be more monster bands Seriously, i hope that the eurovision will become more open to different styles of music because of Lordi because the original idea for this competition were good. Welcome to Helsinki in 2007

I think it's exactly the silliness of that festival that makes us so happy about Lordi's success. It's a silly, stupid festival with boring, plastic music. And that's why they needed someone to kick their ass - especially a band like Lordi. It is just so awesome to watch how all these self-centered people react now. exactly! so first we were happy that a nation had the courage to choose a rockband for their representing at esc at all not like the other conservative countries or sex-pop nations (... ok now... but why by the (frozen) hell did they complain about lordi's look? i thought that esc is a music fastival at first (message to church) and there is also no one who complained about these unmoral outfits of some 'girlies'... first: here in berlin (s....n.) esc a very famous event by germans and our turky citizens... we also have a german-song-contest by our very popular comediant stefan raab (he also was representing germany at esc a few years ago)... so it's generally very popular here to watch 'silly, stupid festival with boring, plastic music' (quote by runenmeisterin)... see e.g. our chartlist... third: i like this song ... it's not my music, but it sounds more individually like the other songs yesterday Four: Why it has been needed 40 years for a rock band to win this? that's the main question at all!!!

Okay, moved my EV part from the Good and Bad thread to here dave's post: First question: I would say it is popular and always has been here since I can remember. Most of the time there were discussions about the German act here, esp. when they had something like Guildo Horn or Stefan Raab which were a bit different. And yes, it was always something you watched with your parents at home. Second: At least France announced the points in French as well. Third: Haven't seen or heard the song because it was already about half past 9 until I really paid attention to the contest. Well, most of the acts were horrible again. Especially this rap shit... sometimes I wasn't sure if that wasn't MTV I was watching! But Bosnia Herzegovina was quite okay imo The Russian one was indeed pretty boring... What just came to my mind... didn't Lordi have a song on their new album called "It snows in hell"? ;D

But still it keeps suprising me because i was almost certain that europe isn´t ready for lordi; the song wasn´t even hard rock but almost 80´s pop but their image is too much for some people, i thought. I am not sure if Europe is ready for Lordi. I just think metal heads everywhere went out to cast their votes (I did!) and there are enough other alternative minded people who are annoyed by that whole competition and saw Lordi as an innovation. I guess Lordi did a great job to mobilize people everywhere. One of my most favorite moments last night was when the hosts gave the flowers to the winners Lordi. This was so funny that we almost wet our pants. And I totally trusted the German metal scene. I told my friends: "The only question is, which group is bigger. German metal heads or Turks in Germany. The biggest group will get the 12 points." And I was right. Turkey got 12 and Finland 10. Now, I don't need any official statistics. There are more Turks in Germany than metal heads ... but what about these Turkish metal heads??? I wanna end with a text message I got from a friend during the announcement of the votes: "United we stand!" ;D ;D

If you make that metal bands, I'll be happy Then the people who want the 'old' contest back, have to start over with a new contest, the Eurovision nonmetalsongcontest ;D

It was pretty funny to hear that Lordi won the Eurovision Songfestival finals. So, next year I hope for a metaleurovision songfestival, Lordi made a good step forwards! Chapeau!

I just heard in the news that the city of Rovaniemi is planning to name a city square after Lordi. Wonder what that will be called, Lordi Square or perhaps Putaansuu Square? ;D

If they do so, they should put a nice monster statue right in the middle. Would also attract more tourists ... if you want silly Germans running around taking photos. ;-)
