Arivse: It was that sauna that claims to be the biggest smoke sauna in the world, and it's mixed there, but besides those few Russians I've seen no-one wearing anything there. Haven't been to any public saunas otherwise, but I think when you're at someone's place it's usually been like you either take separate turns or you know rather well anyway so you go there all together. I don't know, I just find it very absurd to wear anything in sauna and I've also never seen it besides that one time.
Anwend: I just find it weird because he's the only (Finnish) person I know that pronounces it that way when speaking English (and not even speaking to an English native speaker). And when he uses other Finnish words in between he doesn't make them English, either (wonder how an anglicised terveyskeskus would sound ;D).

wolferin: Master and the Mastermind in sauna... ;D A poem of purification and faints , haha.. I have a lower BP too, so I guess for laughing now will pay with a faint later. Though, sometimes my BP is just playful , so I never know. Must say, I see no nudity in therapy, so... OH, and I love the birch branches part! Will say no more. When I fainted I was 14 and there was not a notion of the Master. ;D Also here I have seen no birch branches in the saunas. I just find it very absurd to wear anything in sauna and I've also never seen it besides that one time. May be, but if it is not accepted in the national culture men and women to stay naked together, you'll feel very embarrassed and not feel sauna like pleasure, but like some kind of violence and shame.

For that there are the different turns And those times I've been in sauna with men also I've never felt embarrassed, besides that I usually knew them well for me personally it's also that I simply don't feel ashamed of being naked and why would one anyway. What I was pointing out above is mainly that I imagine it very uncomfortable wearing a bikini in sauna and I've also never seen anyone do that besides that one time.

Since when it comes to mixed saunas (both sexs at the same time) Girls usually have bikinis on and when it comes to sift saunas they don't. Atleast thats the case here on south, I guess the girls at the north are more "daring" or the culture is different. But it doesn't matter are you at south or north boys are allways on their birthday suit. Nah, it just depends on the person. I think I've seen girls wearing bikini at sauna only at places like summer camps back in the day, but all the people I know nowadays go to sauna undressed. Or atleast the folks I've gone to sauna with ;D But do the birch twigs really help the circulation? The beating isn't really that heavy. I honestly don't have any idea why we do it and where it originates from, but I have to agree with you on that nice smell it makes.

Related more or less...since this thread was open, each night I had dreams of saunas and Finland, etc.. ;D So I am happy, that last night it had stopped, haha.. Anyway, back to birch branches: first time I realised I will want to use those was because of the sauna scene form Turisas DVD Finnish Summer Tour. That one really rocks! ;D And can give one ideas. ;D

But atleast for me it really helps for the circulation in my feet, since I have bad circulation on there. Hmm, allready thinking of Christmas sauna So going to spend some time there, just relaxing and forgetting all the bad things in life and enjoy it as much as I can!

Oh, the joy and wonder of Sauna... just looking through this thread already makes me relax (I'm a hopeless addict, what can I say ;D ) Birch twigs remind me of the Russian banya, great memories... I agree about helping with circulation, also the rhythmical movement keeps the body active and it's almost like a cardio exercise and conditioning at the same time. And birch twigs smell so fragrantly in the heat... It turns out there is a secret sauna in town that is not advertised, and there are no signs, but you have to ask for it - not the steam bath, but the real thing - in one of the geothermal pool centers. When I am done with my stuff that I have to do... I shall treat myself to a looooong session

^It's winter, so please, PLEASE tell me that you we're outside rolling in snow? That's best thing you can do in winter!
Ah. I love saunas. When you spend a hour in 100 C beating youself with birch twig and after it swim in a lake, that's... That's something so awesome. Finland is awesome country.

^It's winter, so please, PLEASE tell me that you we're outside rolling in snow? That's best thing you can do in winter! Did that on new year's eve, and it's not really that enjoyable. Even though the snow seems fluffy, it's pretty damn stinging against bare skin. The rolling part of it sucks, but the feeling when you go back to sauna after it somewhat pays for it. Everyone knows how comfortable a good heat feels when you're freezing

Done that ones or twice, but nah, didn't do at Christmas Even though the snow seems fluffy, it's pretty damn stinging against bare skin. Everyone knows how comfortable a good heat feels when you're freezing Yea thats true, the feeling when you come back to sauna is great, but hell no, it doesn't win the feeling when you go to snow! Or I'm just a chicken... ;D I love heat and hate cold!

More heat on this topic then. Had a glorious sauna last night; I said I won't be having one unless it's in Finland, so being here now.. And with all the fears/precautions I posted about before in this thread..none of them was present. It just felt sooooooooooooo good! No fainting, no nothing, just excellent time in there, and had to tell myself to get out, so that I don't push things . Will have another tonight too. ;D I feel like the home I have searched for my whole life is in Finland, and sauna feels so right, so ''at home'' too. Hope I make myself clear, because when I am enthusiastic I may not express things very well.
