My name is Melinda Päivikki ~ Melinda I got because I was born in Georgia, U.S.A., and it is international. Also, my parents were hippies and very fond of the music of Uriah Heep - especially the song "Come away, Melinda". ;D Originally the name is Greek though, and means "honey". My middle name instead is very Finnish, and it's my mother's middle name as well. Päivä in Finnish means "day", so I guess the name is something derived from that... Maybe the flower, "daisy"?

"Paiva" (without the 2 dots on top) is a portuguese name. if im not mistaken it sounds practically the same as in finnish, except the last "ä" which in portuguese is a short "a". it also a name for haxixe. xD

my second name is daniele but i never used that..
it originates from hebrew and it means "My judge is Elohim," or "Elohim has judged."
my family name is russo, the most common family name in italy ;D (im really not original, i know ;D) and it originates from latin "russus" or "rubius" and it just means man with red hair (or tawny hair).. but in my family no one has never had red or tawny hair ;D

Hey huisgriezel,
Everyone should know what their name means! I don't know *why* they should, but there must be some good reason...
Timothy means 'honouring God' and is Greek.
Richard means 'powerful ruler; brave one' and is Old German/English.
Kevin means 'gentle; lovable' and is Gaelic.

By the way, could anybody tell me where the name Urla comes from? I know it's German, but what that means???

Absolutely sure it is Urla; if it's dialected, that's something I'm sorry but I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't be so lazy and try a google, haha! wait a minute, I try it and there appears a web page from an immobiliary bussiness in a language I don't know. I'm afraid I've been cheated...

Sami Juhani ~ Both of my names come from some damn saints according to name books For some reason the second name, Juhani, has passed in my family atleast for 3 generations and I'll make sure it'll keep going on when I have descendants one day. My family name means originally "Marshland" or "Swamp". Ir originates back to the 1500's when my forefathers settled to a lakeshore surrounded by vast swamps and people started to call them according to their surroundings. My family still lives at that area today. Nowadays, though, the name means "trashed", but I think it's pretty cool still ;D

My name is Aline. The meaning is kinda hard to track down. The book where my parents got it from says it's Arabic and means The Elevated. I've also encountered online sources stating it can be traced back to a medieval English family name or to some French names. Then, it sounds pretty close to the Celtic Aileen. I just found a very nice site of a German university. You can pay them for professional research and they write a report. I could ask my parents to give me this as a Christmas present or so. That would be cool.
