@ kuusuru & Tiina... Shakespeare's Sister? Who would ever listen to that!? LOL!! How dare lovely ladies not sing strictly bubblegum pop oriented seductive tunes... *sigh* Beautiful Siobahn..... Speaking of lovely ladies; anyone check out shredder Orianthi? The lyrics are pop in the vein of Kelly Clarkson and the like, but you can't overlook her other skills: www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7b-_YcACuQWould be a HUGE step in bringing more metal oriented music back to the mainstream I'm thinking. My music player is on shuffle or whatever it be as I just want variety tonight. Just going over now is Kings X, a rock band I listened to plenty in, maybe, the late 80s and early 90s. I'm just now getting around to their more recent stuff (as in anything post 1992! LOL) and it's still pretty awesome. I like that their not really pigeon holed to one style. They do the progressive thing by far, but it's nice to hear the funk and just fun metal elements in there as well. I really like singer Doug Pinnick's vocals. Pretty cool.

today has been all over the place for me!
started out with Blackmore's Night, and from there went to Alestorm, and am now listening to Funker Vogt.
Not sure what's going to be next, gotta see what I have here in the office!

In the last two weeks or so I keep listening daily a fine piece of instrumental music a friend sent me: The Travellers (Big Country plays it). Tis a simple one, but so very fine and catchy...and the bass is actually the main atraction for me in it. Though the guitars are very melodic...and merry ;D But the bass guitar..love it,just love it...

H2O - Nothing to prove GREAT hardcore punk band. They released a new album a couple of years ago after 7 years of nothing and it's their best album ever!!! (Or at least second best) I love it when old bands still got it. And you can hear in the music and lyrics that it's not "we need some money, lets get the old band back together..." stuff. No, it's a genuine punk album to the core. It so positive and filled with good vibes. Just makes me feel good to know those guys stayed true to themselves all those years.

Viikate - Korpi Pretty original sounding metal from my home town. I really like the overall mood of their music and the wordplays in the lyrics. I suppose only few people know them outside Finland, but they' but you might find them interesting even without knowing the lyrics Those of us outside Finland who are fortunate enough to know them - and there are a few of us here - definitely agree with you . Great songwriting, great musicians, unique and expressive music.

Yes, there are ,,a few of us here" . I think I've mentioned them some time ago in this thread. Truth is (and maybe you'll laugh bout it), but when I listen them feels like I watch a good film too.. Tis the sensation that Viikate's music leave on me...hmm... And I'm not sure I need the translation of their lyrics, though a friend of mine gave me an idea bout what's going on there... The funny thing is that exactly yesterday I kept ,,strolling" on youtube for their music...nice coincidence! Also yesterday, due to another friend I listened Rammstein's Donaukinder a few times.... But today is KK's ,for I missed them And I have ,Idja' at hand too

Wodensthrone - Loss Apparently these guys are the next big thing in atmospheric, folkish black metal - recording with Negură Bunget in their studio is certainly one way of getting noticed . It's a very worthy debut, perhaps there is an "Om" in their future

kuusuru: the shock for me when listening those guys, twas that I felt like listening Negură Bunget's musical child. Because they really do sound so: mainting some of their ,,parent's" features ( gods! Some guitar passages are so N.B.! If I didn't know twas other band, I could swear tis a new song of NB or sth!), but adding to that a lot more personal things. We have a word here, that says ,,the romanians are brothers with the forest", and this time that applies to the current situation as well ;D I am proud those guys record those great sounds in my land, with one of the bands I love most. And I'm listening for the gooo'ol'time's sake Negură's Văzduh and Dupre reci îmbre. B-) \m/

Empyrium - "Songs of Moors and Misty Fields"
Folkish doom metal from 1997. Lengthy, melancholic compositions, but with this oddly proud sense of faded glory, of decaying grandeur. Hauntingly epic, not something I listen to often... not often enough, perhaps.

Something non-metallic for a change... I played Jean-Michel Jarre's seminal Oxygène suite for the kids the other day, to somewhat mild approval, but approval it was , and they are not shy in voicing disapproval It still sounds very fresh, not only ahead of its time then, but still ahead of time now, and considering when it was made, the production quality and ambience is nothing short of amazing.
