Which instruments can you all play? (Or had to learn as children?) Why did you stop learning, or are you still playing, trying to get professional with any instrument?

Wow... a woman who plays drums.... cool! \m/ But I don't play metal, because I don't have double pedals (even if it's not obligatory, but it's better)

I have played (or atleast tried): Bagpipes, Piano, Flute, Xylophone, Djembe, Drums, ... I still play: Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Harmonica, Keyboards, Vocals , ... I'm getting pretty good at the guitar and harmonica thing, I've been playing guitar for over 4 years now, and harmonica like 1 year or so... I'm still trying to get the hang of piano (keyboards) again, I used to be able to read music and write music and play the piano, but that's all gone now

I started playing keyboard at age of 8. I played it for few years, but due to lack of interrest I quitted. Damn, did I curse that later on Few years back I restarted the whole thing and bought myself a keyboard. Now I've taken some piano-lessons and progressing at decent rate. Also planning to buy a piano I also try to learn as much theory as possible. Creating music is more important to me than just playing it, so I've started to use my computer to create music since there I'm not that limited. Of course the result sounds rather crappy, but I don't really care as long as I enjoy making them. I also own an acoustic guitar, a very old violin and a shaman-drum I bought from Lappland EDIT: Oh, and no, I don't try to become pro at any instrument. Just a hobby altough my piano-teacher tries to convince me otherwise

Even though I am part of 2 metal bands, I have no special will or desire to live out of music (I love my current job) so most of the music I do for myself is basically just for fun. I own several instruments, some modern and some traditional ones, but I don't play any of them very proficiently, I just do enough to record some stuff chez moi. My instruments Guitar (eletric and acoustic): What i've been playing longer, and the one I'm most confortable with of course, I have my folk guitar tuned In DAGDAD now, for an extra celtic feeling. Bass: I played bass in my previous bands (Sirius, Before the Rain, Mycelium), nowadays I very rarely pick it up, only to complement the stuff I record in my computer. I do well, not brilliant. Bódhran: It's an irish drum you play with a stick, primordial use it often. It's extremely versatile and probably the instrument I'm playing more and more these days. I'm still not very good at it, but I'm improving at a good pace I'd say. Djembé and other percussion: I own several percussion instruments (also tambourine, a rainstick and a pakistani drum) and I play them all at a reasonable level, once again, just enough. Mouth Harp: very simple but addictive instrument, love playing it. Mandolin: I play this a lot, specially to accompany the guitar. Still have some difficulty to compose with it, but I make "2nd melodies" pretty easily. Also works well with the recorder. Bandurria: Spanish 12-stringed instrument. Very small and very hard to play imo, can only do the very basics so far, but it has a wonderful sound. Have to severely improve on it... Kantele: bought one in my trip to finland. Hypnotic sound, can only do the basics so far, but already wrote a 3 minute song. hehehe Recorder, Whistle, Ocarina: I play these a bit by heart and improvisation, but I've written a couple of songs in the recorder. Mine is +25 years old and has a beautiful sound. Harmonica: Also have an old Harmonica that I sometimes play for fun. I'm now thinking of buying a Darbuka, a Didjiridoo and specially a Bouzouki. (i think I haven't forgot anything...)

Bódhran reminds me of a shaman drum.

It's very simmilar in form but COMPLETELY different in playing technique.
The bódhran is played vertically atop one's leg, always sitting down (unless you're Kila's frontman, he's a madman playing a Bódhran) and stick has 2 ends, being always parallel to the skin. The wrist movements are quite simmilar to those of guitar playing...
It's very different from any other percussion instrument I know honestly. That's why I play it better than the other percussion instruments hehehehe...

my throat and beer-belly (my very own percussion instrument ;D), but seriously, i'm too lazy to keep seriously and devotedly (is that even a word ) studying to play an instrument... so far i tried with: -bass guitar -didgeridoo (couldn't figure out the right breathing technique) -djembe (i'll pick that one up soon, as soon as i can afford one ;D) -irish flute (breathing again) so so far it's just the kalimba (an african instrument, like a hand piano maybe, hard to describe), for relaxation
