I bought Tervaskanto from my local record shop.....It had a fluro sticker that read - "Finnish Humppa Metal" I cracked out laughing and saw the first track "Let's Drink" without a listen I brought it home and I haven't looked back....Korpiklaani is my bench mark for Folk Metal now!
The only album that has come close to it is
Turisas - Battle Metal

I started with Power Metal such as Sonata Arctica. Then I accidentally found Finntroll and became interested in Folk/Pagan Metal. Actually not only in music but in everything connected with Nordic ancient traditions. And what about Korpiklaani... There was some topic on Finntroll forum... Smth like "Bands similar to Finntroll". And of course somebody (really almost everybody) said that Korpiklaani is sooo amazing and so on. I was young and have been listening to a sort of metal just for several months. And I was interested in everything new, especially folk, especially finnish. So Korpiklaani suited me best And continues suiting till nowadays.

I always loved Jethro Tull. Then I discovered Skyclad in the mid 90s. Started my own band that didn't last long because members kept coming and going, we had no decent equipment and were flat out lazy There went my dream for opening for a folkmetal band some day, as starting a folkmetal band here in the US is not gonna happen I found Korpi somewhere between the Skyclad messageboard and Youtube. Then I promptly bought all their albums. Hell, I was surprised to find any at the stores here, but I did. The rest, from Amazon.

A friend of mine heard Finntroll and said something like, 'This sounds like something you'd like.' A few years later, I was listening to some internet radio station and heard other bands, googled them, found some CDs and have been happily listening to the stuff since.

My friends from the Milwaukee band Doomsday Cauldron got me into metal, they played Cruachan's Tuatha Na Gael for me and ever since I have been obsessed with folk metal. I found some Shaman and Finntroll online and was excited that there were Finnish folk metal bands who yoiked! (I'm part Finnish with some Saami, if anyone knows about the the Flying Bietila ski-jumping family, I'm a grandson.) When Spirit of the Forest came out I felt like a Finnish witch high on flying ointment traversing the spirit world. Korpiklaani, greatest folk metal band of all!

Today, I was just looking for foreign metal out of curiousity. I saw Viking metal, which I thought was funny, but then I saw Folk Metal, and listened to Korpiklaani through that. I saw "Wooden Pints" on youtube and am hooked.

I had no use for metal of any kind until I got to know my boyfriend. He does hardly listen to anything else. So I was "forced" to do so as well. But then there was the gig in Leipzig/Germany which he convinced me to go to with him. There I saw Korpiklaani and I was amazed and positively impressed. When we came back, I talked him into getting all the CDs and I started looking for more information on the net. That is how I got here. (By the way: When I was listening to Korpi for the first time at my parents' place, my dad asked after some minutes: "They are finish, aren't they?" I said: "Yes, how did you know??" His answer: "Their singing about drinking made me think that." ) But now, he just smiles, when I'm listening to Korpiklaani. (And my 12-year-old brother already sings almost all of the melodies... Maybe I should take a little more care of when I listen to this music... )

I was listening to that Yle X or whatever while waiting for them to play the new Children of Bodom song, then they played Keep on Galloping and I thought it was cool thing, though I was not yet interested by it that much. Then I happened to check it on youtube, and I loved all the songs I came across, especially Wooden pints and Tervaskanto, though I thought that Tervaskanto video was too strange with the guy flying and stuff.
Then one day I bought Tervaskanto album, have been listening to it since that, actually it was last week. ;D

3 years ago I started to lose interest in American metal, and started listening to alot of German metal. I've always been interested in Germany and the Nordic countries, so I started listening to some Mittelalter Rock and Scandinavian metal as well, and from there I found a list of folk metal bands on wikipedia. The first folk metal band I ever heard was Týr (they're still my favorite), but I didn't like alot of the bands because they didn't have clean vocals. It took some time, but after alot of searching I started finding really great bands like Metsatöll, Heidevolk, and of course Korpiklaani!

Welcome Dragnagen! Hey,it`s an honour to see an US-guy is interested in Germany, usually it`s the other way round No,seriously,it always makes me happy if someone likes my country. I have the same "problem" with the fact that most of the folk-metal bands don`t have clean vocals. It`s good for me to see that someone shares my opinion cause sometimes I have the feeling to be alone with it.I like also some bands with harsh vocals,Equilibrium for example, but there are so many bands who have it and I think it`s good if a band makes something different. And Korpiklaani are really unique with their kind of clean vocals.I mean: The folk-metal bands who use clear vocals use them as a contrast to the the harsh vocals but at least I don`t know any band with Korpiklaani`s music -style who have it exclusively. And Týr are really great.I must admit that the last album is not my favourite one but the new CD is really good;I love it! Did you ever see them live? Oh,I`m talking to a native speaker in english,I hope my english is not too bad

Since I'm in love with all finnish (it started actually with finnish music) I suddenly found a band called Korpiklaani and I was like "Wait, they are from Finland?" I searched some music videos and found Happy Little Boozer and Beer Beer I think. It was simply love... And since then I found other folk metal bands. Now I'm more into viking metal mixed with black metal or death metal, but - they're all pagans ;D

But yes, Germany is a wonderful country. I almost got to travel there a few years ago, but it didn't work out . Hopefully soon I shall though. The only bands I like without clean vocals are Eluveitie and Turisas. I would much rather listen to singing in another language than screaming in my own language ;D. And yes, I saw Týr on the Paganfest tour a few months ago and it was really great! If Korpiklaani would have gone on the American tour it would have been perfect.
