I have to recommend an Australian band, Alchemist. I love these guys! They are very unknown outside of Australia. They played Prog Power last year, their first foray outside Australia, so they might be getting some recognition. You can listen to some of their samples here: www.alchemist.com.auGo to 'Audio samples' at the top. I recommend 'irst Contact', 'Austral Spectrum' or 'Tide In, Mind Out'. My all-time favourite song is 'Garden of Eroticism'. The build-up is amazing. I don't know how to describe Alchemist (I'm not very good with genres) so I won't even try. Their latest album features an indigenous Australian/Aboriginal instrument, the didgeridoo.

Today I listened again to one hell of an album, everyone should listen it (again): Spirit of the Forest!! ;D
I thought I knew it by heart, but I found it even better than I thought it was. I didn't hear it for several weeks now...The differences with ''Voice of wilderness' are very clear to me now. But I won't compare those two anymore, both great!
I also want to recommend Poropetra. There's a separate thread about this band in here.

Funny, I actually woke up to the sound of Shamaniac today...
About recomendations.... eeeeh... I think it's pretty much covered. But I reinforce the Poropetra recomendation.

Go to www.festering-saliva.de and download the video in the media section, if you have DSL or any fast connection! I laughed my ass off, when I watched it for the first time! ;D P.S. But the music of the band is great! The best f*cking Death Metal band here in Bavaria at the moment!

I can vouch for all those bands Malice indicated since I know all of them and have all their cds.
Dazkarieh - Ecletic world music with influnces from the 5 continents. Very good.
Mandragora - a band from Porto who plays bagpipe-oriented traditional portuguese music. Extremely good, though the album is not very well produced. The percussion is extremely feeble.
Galandum Galundaina - Also bagpipe oriented trad music. And Malice, Mirandês IS NOT a dialect it's a language on its. It's not even from the same lineage of Portuguese. It's derived from Asturiano (bable) and Leonese, while Portuguese comes from Galician-Portuguese. So they have every right to their language.
At-tambur - probably the best of all these bands. Trad folk music from portugal and europe with a jazzy touch: drums and guitar. Very good, very very good.

i said it was promoted to language. :] i've been talking to a guy i know(that has a considerable knowledge on these things) and he explained more or less why it should be considered a dialect. if im not mistaken(i think i remember some years back some news on the TV about it), there was controversy on whether to consider it a language or not. Back to recommending music: Goldfrapp's "felt mountain" album its very "trip - hoppesc"(reducing it a lot). it has some kind of folky tunes, e.g "oompa radar". i leave here the link to amazon where one can read the editorial review and download samples: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004XSS2/qid=1116239636/sr=8-2/ref=pd_csp_2/002-7158606-8563211?v=glance&s=music&n=507846#product-detailsi would like to call your attention to her voice.
