Imagine you could organize a rock concert or festival, choosing those groups that you prefeer...
Put your selection and if you want, explain your reasons
I like so much pagan, viking and folk metal- specially form nordic countries- so this is my selection:
Amon Amarth Moonsorrow Thyrfing Korpiklaani Ensiferum Finntroll Equilibrium Runic Asmegin Turisas Taunusheim
Make your own selection!! ;D

Good subject and good choice, Lain!
Some of your bands would appear in my list too. Here´s my running order (headliners first):
If it were a folk/ pagan festival: Vintersorg Arcturus Moonsorrow Primordial Turisas Korpiklaani Helfahrt Thyrfing Equilibrium Menhir Haggard Helrunar
If it were a Black/Death-Metal festival: Naglfar Ancient Wisdom Cryptopsy Gorgoroth Dark Fortress Endstille Sycronomica Lord Belial Vesania Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult
P.S. Reason: those bands own! Especially live!

While designing my ideal festival i might need some shamanism or witchcraft because most of the artists i would like to invite are dead and i would have to dig their bodies off from their graves and search their souls from Tuonela (the place where dead people go in Kalevala). If we count only artists/bands who are alive my festival would turn out to be very small with only few artists. The area where the festival takes place is as important as the performers. My ideal area would be the same where they arrange riddu riddu festival every year ( www.riddu.com ) in Kafjord, in Norway´s arctic tundra. I've seen a videoclip of it in the Mari Boine document and it looked very beautiful! Espeacially in the night when there's no darkness but a midnight sun. The performers(they can decite theirselves in what order they would like to play) Zhanna Bichevskaya (RU) - I've never seen her live but i know that her live performing is just stunning! I don't mind if she would make speeches of the holiness of Ivan the terrible or patriotism. Yat Kha (RU) - I've been in their concert once thanks to my mother and it was so good that i want to see them performing again! Värttinä (FIN) - Also went to their concert in last month...I really respect the long way this this group has made and of course enjoy their music. Mari Boine (NOR) - Thanks to her i found out this area and she would fit there perfectly! I've never seen her live so it would be very interesting to see her show. Lisa Ekdahl (SWE) - Been in her concert before. Very Charming! I've never heard an artist singing the whole gig with a whole different tune in her voice like she did. Alla Pugachova (RUS) - I just want to see her performing live...and she would really break the silence of the woods by shouting so loudly! Korpiklaani (FIN) - Well, why not them? It would be the heaviest band on my festival, muahhahhaa!

I'd be for a death metal fest this time (listed in a free order):
Devourment > Catchy and rip-off-all-the-flesh -like riffings, completely merciless atmosphere and harsh but damn heavy sound all over makes this band one of my most important all-time favourites ever within the brutal death metal scene.
Cannibal Corpse > A legend and a pioneer; one of my absolute favourites as well; I missed their gig when they were here in Finland some time earlier, thus it would be great to see them even once in my life.
Kataplexia > All hail! The members are from El Salvador but they live here in Helsinki; their expression is catchy as well, and of course brutal like Hell.
Nile > I totally missed their gig that was in May this year here in Helsinki; as I'm truly into this band, I'd surely wanted to see them on stage as well.
Torsofuck > People have described this Finnish band being quite similar to Devourment, but haven't heard their material yet; gigs are usually very good places to find new targets of musical interest.
Siksakubur > Very talented and brutal death metal from this group of Indonesian youngsters; it would be extremely great to have also a bit of some exotic touch in "my festival" too, heh.
Disgorge (Mex) > Among my favourites too; very grinding, very brutal.
Mortician > This band should do it when talking about total killing and mutilation by the zombie army; extremely brutal, harsh and grinding stuff absolutely worth seeing live sometimes.
Infestation > Infestation from the UK truly rocks; not quite as brutal as the bands above, but very harsh-atmosphered expression however.
diSEMBOWELMENT > This Australian death/doom band would have been truly awesome to see on stage once, but sadly they've splitted up already; diSEMBOWELMENT would have been an extremely good ending to the festival because of being much more atmospheric, experimental and slower stuff in general compared to all the other bands I've listed there.

I prefer festivals with certain theme, because in the best cases all the bands are some of the ones you want to see live. So here goes my TRUE METAL THRASH AND BURN OPEN AIR:
(headliners first, 1-2h break between every band so people have time to drink enough)
Friday:
24:00 Bathory evoked from the grave - Their first-ever live appearance with undead Quorthon. If someone wasn't there to see this, they don't deserve to breathe.
20:00 Saxon - Something mildly calmer before the main act. Especially old metalheads come to see this
17:00 Nifelheim - They don't have that much gigs even their music is totally neck-breaking unholy burst from the depths of hell. SATANIC MASS!
15:00 Tank - After years of silence these englishmen climb on stage to kill everyone with their thrashy heavy metal straight from the 80's.
13:00 Stone - Disbanded 10 years ago, but by the demand of audience they appear to play this one single gig filled with angry speed metal and insanity.
11:00 Morningstar - Like the others, these guys really don't play gigs too much even there's quite a demand for it. They're booked to open the festivals in order to show wimps and posers what's about to come. Needless to say that when the intro of "Crushing their legions" starts to run, those of FALSE METAL will die.
Saturday:
01:00 Manowar (plays Hail To England and Sign Of The Hammer -albums completely) - The true Kings Of Metal hit the stage to show everyone what's real men are made of. The time to strike is now! KILL!
22:00 Venom - Cronos has joined the ranks with the Venom members from their golden age, and as their dirty, evil and pervert metal sweeps the festival area, clouds are gathered upon it.
19:00 Sodom - These legendary german thrashers are here to deliver napalm and kill everyone on their way. Fast, agressive and soaked with beer, gasoline and raining bullets. Kills the remaining wimps and posers from 20km radius of the festival area.
17:00 Deathchain - GRAVEYARD WITCHERY! People are trampled to death during their set only to return again as rotten undeads. Church of the neighbouring village explodes by itself.
14:00 Tarot - Ye olde finnish heavy metal. Hits like Wings Of Darkness and Crawlspace wake up the people who still roam the dak depths of unconsciousness at the camping area.
12:00 Hellbox - A wake-up call in the vein of Venom and Sodom that are bound to hit the stage later today. Bone-grinding riffs and groove from the underworld lure the majority of the audience at the front of the stage and my well-profitting beer tents (the beer isn't expensive but it's consumed in such huge numbers).
Iron Maiden won't perform on the festival because their stage antics would take so long to build and their great light effects and stuff wouldn't be as cool at outdoors as they are indoors.
