Australia is one of the places I'd like to travel sometimes in the future. I've always been interested in of the Aboriginals and their cultures, myths and languages. And of course it would be interesting to buy the real didgeridoo straight from Australia. Other Australia related associations for me are Crocodile Dundee, good red wines - and of course cold Foster's beer! Didgeridoo's - Probably the only instrument I can play.....Well, And I'm not Aboriginal! The Red Wines for sure - I used to live in the Barrossa Valley - Good cellar door prices!!

Now I live in the dryest state and have Tooheys! Actually I've tasted this one too, it's really good! I was in Vienna with my woman last summer and there we went to an Australian pub, where were all kinds of Australia-related stuff: didgeridoos, boomerangs, stuffed crocodile on the wall and all kinds of cool stuff. The beers were all brought straight from Australia, so I tasted Tooheys, because I hadn't tasted that before. One other Australia-association came also into my mind: Mad Max -movies. They were one of my favourite movies as I was child. I like them still very much, specially The Road Warrior. And aboriginal rock band Yothu Yindi is very good. I like their music very much.

Mad Max - I don't live far from where it was filmed and the original car still sits outside the local pub! Same place where "Pitch black" was filmed..... Yothu Yindu - Haven't heard much from him lately... If you liked him try looking for "Wilcannia Mob" particularly the song "Down River" they are Aboriginal boys aged 7 - 13 didgeridoos and beat boxing etc...... Haven't been to Uluru yet but it's not far from where I live!

Haven't been to Uluru yet but it's not far from where I live! I was there last month, I'll post a few photos soon. Another Aussie Aboriginal band is "Nokturnal" particulary the song "Never Mend" A very good Australia - Metal - Rap -Metal song I remember Nokturnl! I only knew about two songs but I thought they were awesome. I ripped one of their songs from my prized 10- 15-year old 'rage' video tapes, I should post it on YouTube. Hmm and to add to the discussion - are Aussies better known for their "larrikin" easy-going sense of humour, or for their "un-cultured-ness"?

Id say there Larrikin-ness to un-cultured-ness What is Australian Culture! Here is food for discussion, if anyone wants to post what they think Australian culture is!

I think its the same as cultures in most other countries, or atleast Western countries - for the main populace its simply just getting drunk, but it can't be summed up because, like the other Western countries, it has many sub-cultures. In terms of music we pretty much only seem to be able to churn out generic shit, whether it be in the genres of metal, rock, or pop, etc. TV... is pretty much crap (just as, I imagine, it is in every other country ) The art world seems to be limited to the art people, instead of everyday people, just like it is in every other country. (but the number of art people is very large anyway) Aboriginal culture (in terms of the arts) seems to only get a brief showing in those spectacular nationally broadcasted events and sometimes in art galleries, or is used as a souvenir at Circular Quay. And occasionally they have a day at primary schools in which Aborigines come and talk and show the kiddies things. Generally it is still the drinking and sports culture that seems to preside. Oh yeah, sports - fundamentally the same as in every other country. I think the question that needs to be asked is not what is Autralian culture, but what is culture? Of course we don't have to go down that path, though.

Last thing I've learnt about Australia is the hilarious words of an Aussie Female Hockey player about Spanish Male Hockey Players. It seems that she wrote on FAcebook that Spanish should eradicate bullfighting and let the Spanish Hockey Players run chasing people as in a "encierro". She said she would make shure she was chased and... impaled Ok, this is nothing cultural, but sounded pretty funny to me because Aussie Hockey Federation have asked the players to be careful since these words may hurt some people... I guess Spanish Hockey Players aren't hurt, on the contrary I'm sure they're delighted. And if they are hurt it doesn't matter, I'm not a Hockey player, but I wouldn't mind to be set free on Sydney streets chasing girls... ;D

Vegemite is awesome.
I wish it was more common in the US.

Vegemite VB ;D I have been to Australia twice (4 weeks totally), but on a business trip, so I've only seen the hotel and my work place, not much more. At work I knew only two people that were (for sure) born in Australia, all the rest were immigrants. Fascinating mixture of cultures. Very friendly people, "No worries"

Very friendly people, "No worries" I've heard that alot from Europeans. They "can't believe how nice people are down here!" Waves of patriotism engulfing me right now. ;D
