I bet you all have tried to play Korpiklaani to some older non-metal persons. :PWell, how did it go?This is my story. The lead role is my father(55 years old,ex hippy, too old to know anything about metal))As I am a journey girl, living on the highway between few balkan countries,my dad and I often exchange music during our long trips. Dad:What is THIS?!-Me:You know, the band we went to see in Slovenia(Deleted scenes;almost stuck on the border because of my pipe tobacco that looked like marijuana and the whiskey we were carrying-disguised as a bottle filled with tea!!! ) Dad-oooh,THAT band(hoping that he would remember the name would be pointless)...they sound like primitive hill men...I actually like them... Me-So,can I listen to both of the CD-S? Dad-NOOO!!!!! The second scene;my father seeing the videos. After passing out,(and making faces)he says:Oh,my God,those people have never heard of combs!!!But I kind of understand why YOU like them(he has never got over the fact that the genes of his Montenegrian outlawed forest people ancestors had to manifest themselves on nobody but his daughter!)They are funny, actually. Me-Good,so would it be alright if I invited them home to party with my friends? Dad-OVER MY DEAD BODY!!!! Relax,it was just a joke, dad On the other hand,my granny is a true metalhead. She likes everything from metal, including death metal growls!

Funny subject, vargaskinn! In my case it was upside down... me as the older one introduced Korpiklaani to my new younger work collegue (she`s 20) and she loved the band immediately, introduced them to her friends, so now probably about 7 or 8 more people will come to the gig in Munich to see the band with me. It´s gonna be great fun (I hope...). Oh, but that girl working with me is in the lucky position to have a Metal-mother, she will play her some Korpiklaani music when she goes home next time. I wonder how her mother will like it.

haha, with me it was not really a strange reaction, my parents know I listen also much heavier music They like Korpiklaani-like music actually (if they can choose between my music ). The only thing they hate are the vocals, but every non-metalhead does. And also: I'm playing in a folkmetal band so they are used to a lot of noice ;D

I introduced Korpiklaani to my kids... (and their, and some of my friends) one loves it as I do, one likes it a lot, and one doesn't like it, but also doesn't hate it; he is not in metal at all. I never let my mother hear KK, her music is her life, but just classical, she is a professional (concert) pianoplayer and 76 now. She accidentally heard Finntroll, when she had to wait in my car and tried to put on the radio. It was Vindfärd. She said she didn't dislike it... I was surprised. She hated Mari Boine, so i don't know, she has indeed a problem with almost all vocals. vargaskinn: cherish your grandma! A seldom jewel!

^ haha thats funny I am always playing music in the house and in the car, natually, so my mother hears bands like Korpiklaani often. A few times she came into my room and said "What band is this? It sounds like our music [Serbian/Slavic]" me: "Oh they do? haha they are from Finland" She thinks the folk part sounds like random Serbian melodies, its funny. She does like Korpiklaani and other bands like Moonsorrow, and especially Lumsk. She is not a metalhead but she says the music has melody! Ya, she doesn't like growlie vocals much, but likes the more clean vocals hehehe.

I was telling I'd go to the gig (next april, Tilburg) and my father, who is a musician in an orcherstra, said he might come with me... And once he told me that electric guitars made him shiver... He don't like those instruments... But he sometimes quite likes the Shaman Songs... Once I let my mother listen to Eternal Wait of Ensiferum., and she quite liked it...
I think my parents are quite open-minded ;D

My mother is a true fan of Korpiklaani and in pellava rock 2005 she danced during the whole gig with bare feet even though it had been raining and the ground was full of dirty mudd. She has a very good taste of music and i'm very proud of her! I love my mother My father hasn't heard much korpiklaani because my parents are divorced. I always listen to music when I visit his house and once we started to talk about relatives and he said "why would you play some korpiklaani to me? I want to hear" Luckily I had some music on one casette and his first comment were: "this is much influed by folk music! I like it." Once I started to listen to Alla Pugachova and he change that "let's listen korpiklaani!"
