well, i've never stayed in a european festival, only spanish, but are 2 very goods: ViñaRock: it's only for spanish music. there are 3 scenes, divides for kinds of music. "La oreja metalika" (The metalika ear) is for metal music, and ther's very good... (It's in Villarrobledo (Albacete), if you want go)
MetalManía Festival: ever year is in a disstint place. it's for international heavy metal music. in 2003, it was in Villarrobledo too, went iron maiden, blind guardian, baron rojo (spain), saxon, hammerfall and primal fear.
there are a lot of celtic music in the north of spain (in galicia, the portuguese known it, sure)

And the first day I arrived in Santiago I was lucky enough to see the finals of the "Regional Contest of Traditional Bands". Lots of bagpipes, drums, etc, etc. Great show. And it was all presented in the Galician language, which was great because it's just like portuguese. heheheh

Hmm, I've only been in Ruisrock, Provinssirock and Tammerfest. Out of those, I have to say that I've enjoyed Tammerfest the most, because it's so close to the place where I live and - it is in the city. Ruisrock was pretty cool in 2004, but the distances were kind of long... And when you're a bit tipsy walking to an island might not be so much fun

I´m not into festivals - i rather go to a concert by a certain artist in a club/concert hall than attend to a festival with lots of people and many performers. But I´ve been to etnofestival in Billnäs (FIN) few times and i acheally liked it there! I would like to go to Kihaus folk music festival in Rääkkylä (FIN) or the folk music festival in Kaustinen (FIN) one day.

Hhhm, over the last years I've come to like Summer Breeze a lot. They always had great bands and it was a smaller, cosier atmosphere. Prices were decent and they always changed some of the points of critique.
I am not so sure about Wacken though. Everytime I am there, I promise myself to never go again but sometimes "certain bands" just require me to go. They have great bands and a wide variety but it's too damn expensive, too commercialized and just too gigantic. The organizers don't even seem to care if people feel well. It's all like a big circus to make money. I am looking forward to this year though because of Korpiklaani, Amon Amarth and our Korpiklaani camp. Let's make it a great time.

Well, there are a few nice festivals and I like them for different reasons.
At Wacken there are actually too many people but it's just like you never get bored even if there isn't any band playing you are interested in. You can spend hours looking for new cds and stuff, you can hang around with the people on the camp ground and no matter where you go, you always meet people that you know. And of course it's probably the biggest meeting of metal people in Europe, 3 or 4 days only long haired, to metal listening people around ;D And there's a pretty big chance that strange things happen sometimes...
The Ragnarök festival (South Germany) isn't that big yet, but that's actually also a fact I like about it and it hits my personal taste of music very much. This year they also had a very good location for it.
Then there is the Pellavarock which was kind of a little adventure for me last year but a great experience. One of these pretty small festivals somewhere in Finland. Not much around but that's exactly the thing I like about these festivals there.
Actually Jörisrock in Suonenjoki where I have been 2 years ago is a nice place, even smaller than Pellavarock, but I read it takes place for the last time this year.
All in all I rather like small festivals in the middle of nowhere where you don't get lost at the festival area ;D

Right, the Ragnarök festival was pretty cool. I agree. The location was very nice with the "chill-out areas" upstairs and the more than decent prices. Bands were great as well. And to my positive surprise there weren't too many nazi assholes around. I know what you mean about Wacken about never getting bored. But after 2 days there, it turns into the opposite. You always have to jump from stage to stage to not miss a band. Then, you have to check if there were any changes in the running order that might mess up your plans. I don't know, it always turns into "Freizeitstress" after a while. It is just too busy. That's probably why I like the small festivals better. And there, you don't have to be on the campground on Monday just to get a decent spot and not having to walk 40 minutes. Socke: Have you ever been to Summer Breeze? Middle-sized but nice.

Hm, I actually enjoyed being busy somehow all the time in Wacken last year (which was my first time at this festival), for 3 days it's okay to me. Another strange thing is that I even don't notice how exhausted I am after running around all day because I'm so enthusiastic about all the gigs there... on Friday that led to the scene that I just wanted to take a "short" break at the tent and the thing that happened was that I literally fell into the tent, sleeping for two hours ;D The main problem for me really is the mass of people, I don't like too many of them on a relatively small place.
No, I have never been at Summerbreeze.

Yes, that's what I don't like about the masses at Wacken. You constantly stumble over someone's feet on the festival ground. I guess I just need more space and lack of it makes me grumpy.
Hehe, the tent incident sounds familiar. Last summer, my friends and I started taking planned cat naps in between to prevent us from these things. Well, I guess we are metal grannies now ;-).

my favorite festival is Masters of Rock ( http://www.mastersofrock.cz) last year there were such band as manowar, rhapsody, rage, nightwish, hammerfall,... and this year I'm very looking forward to it, because of Korpiklaani, Within Temptation a Apocalyptica... and, it's relatively cheap (or it was when I bought my ticket)

There you haven´t these sound mud overkill stuff and find your people, if you want to. C U at wacken, just because I wanna see these great Band !
