Baltic and Slavonic black and heathen metal, although I'm a folk musician myself, namely a kantele-player and a runo-singer and I mostly listen to traditional Baltic-Finnic, Baltic and Slavonic folk music instead of any kind of metal music nowadays.

Baltic-Finnic older and newer folk music, Tuvinian throat-singing music and ethnic music overall. I don't like so much metal so much anymore, although I go metal concerts very often.
Kantele-player, runo-singer and throat-singer here too.

I don't think it's a matter of a style being the best and the other being a shit... this only would lead to a very parcelled and limitated view of our music. In the end this is not more than fucking rock; sometimes you find so much good bands whose style is not easy to "packet" with a label that I find it a bit senseless to overprime one over the others; Cradle of Filth, for example... is it a black metal band? not for me, definitely, just a gothic one; some other people could think it's a black metal one, and there could be black metaleers who would eat the guts of those who say that. So I don't think it's a matter of styles, but of songs, there are songs which are fucking amazing in any style, that it just depends on what you preffer, not on bests and worses. This is just rock, give any connotation you all want after this, but call it by its name, R O C K, the surnames come after that...

Well d'uh, liking one kind of music more definetly doesn't mean that you'd hate all the other kinds of music Heavy, thrash, speed and black metal for me thanks, yet I really listen everything from calypso to ambient and from folk to southern rock. The only stuff I really can't take is rap / hip hop and these "take money off from the dumb teens" -produced "artists".

Well d'uh, liking one kind of music more definetly doesn't mean that you'd hate all the other kinds of music That's what I precisely mean with not labelling music; sometimes the line that makes a group be labelled as one style or the other is so thine! It's all about rock, it doesn't matter how you call it.

I prefer black metal, but thrash is my second favourite! And of course, black thrash!! One of the guys from Aura Noir jumped out of a hotel window not very long ago and broke both his legs.

It's all about rock, it doesn't matter how you call it. Imo it isn't at all, and labeling metal as a sub-genre of rock is the same as you labeled all kinds of music as "sub-genre of primitive drumming" There are thousands of different kinds of music, and it's good to give them names so you can tell more accurately what kind of music you actually listen. Like, saying "I like metal" really doesn't give any idea about your musical taste. One can like Iron Maiden and hate black/dark/power/industrial/whatever metal from the depths of his heart. "I like thrash metal" gives a way better idea already. But whatever, this really isn't a big enough issue to argue about

I think his condition is much worse than that, they even considered amputating his legs, and there's doubts on whether he'll ever walk again. Anyway, depends on the band. But, I grew up on Black Metal, Thrash, and Doom, along with Iron Maiden and the classics. So, those are my favourite styles.

The best kinds of music I think are folk, that is baltic, nordic, finnish, celtic. I like joiking too. And Hummpa. Metal like Opeth. A little bit of death metal and some doom metal. Pagan and Folk Metal(Though Pagan Metal has more to do with lyrics, but I like the lyrics)

I like a lot of music, especially (traditional) folk, folk/metal, metal, so called viking, black, ambient, gothic and most types of metal, humppa (of course ;D), and classical music. But I admit there is a lot of good music in any genre (and an awful lot of very average music too) . Sometimes I hear music in a genre I don't favour so much, but when it is good in itself, I sometimes like it, why not?! Of course I have my favourites and dislikes, like anybody else. Musical taste is not always the same, today I might like something very much and in a month there might be another favourite. It evolves and changes all the time ( a bit). I only dislike sweet music, not the right word, I mean melodramatic, not real, but made up in a cheap (sometimes tearjerking) way. I don't know the words. I dislike this kind of music in all genres. But I love to hear new, to me unknown music, all the time!

So Humppa, you would then dislike emo and pop(melodrama)? I´d never even heard of pop music until I was ten and someone asked me if I liked Spice Girls. I´d only heard of metal like ACDC and Black Sabbath.
