concerning the word "synty", does it have anything with "synthesis"? here im assuming that synty means birth. The word "synty" means birth (the verb "syntyä" = be born, be brought forth, be produced, originate, arise, come into being, spring up), that's right, but the word has most likely nothing to do with namely the Greek word synthesis (syn = "plus"; thesis = "position"). I haven't become acquainted with the Greek language nor the ethymology of its words, thus I can't say wheter it has possibly something to do with the proto-Indo-European language (Greek constitutes its own branch of the Indo-European languages) or not, but via that it could in some ways have something to do with the proto-(Indo-)Iranic language (see below). The Uralic people have surely been in contacts with the Indo-Europeans for a long time (although not with the Greeks), thus it's quite impossible to say which way it finally is for real, though the connection in this case sounds somewhat unlikely, or at least very undirect to me. To be more exact with the ethymology of the word syntyä, it has got counterwords in all close neighbour languages, ie. Karelian syntyö, Vepsian sündüdä, Votian süntüä, Estonian sündida, Livonian sindö, but then again in Komi language sodny (in this case "lisääntyä" = breed, increase, multiply, reproduce). A possible equivalent is also Hungarian ellik (Fin. "synnyttää, poikia", Eng. give birth to, be delivered of, give rise to, bring about, cause, arouse, create, call forth, produce), but this is very unsure because of the phonetic-historical reasons. This word in general might be a very old loan-word from the proto-Iranic (Indo-European -> Indo-Iranic branch) language. In the Finnish literary language the word has appeared since M.Agricola (1510-1557).

well, thank you for such thorough explanation! what it lead to the question was that synthesis is kind of "giving birth" to soemthing. a simple line of thought, i know. :] tjhks!

Great! I thought a thread like this existed, and now I have found it again.
Could someone with a better grasp of languages (or Babelfish) translate this into English for me please? My knowledge of languages is so bad I'm not even sure if this is German or something different. Perhaps the non-English verses are the same as the English verses, but it would be interesting to know.
There's only two non-English verses (and they are repeated a few times) but maybe it helps for the "feel" if I post the entire song..?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Rotting Christ - Der Perfecte Traum
Ich hatte den perfekten traum Noch gar nicht lange her Aufregend und doch schlecht Was ist wirklich? Ich weiss es nicht!
The perfect dream I've had Not long ago Exciting and yet so sad What's real? I don't know
Die dunkelheit kam Heulende sturme um mich herum Ich spurte die funken Die mich erweckten, die mich erweckten
Passion for fight So long desired Towards twilight My heart becomes lightened
A whole world Is revealing itself This story I've never told I kept it for myself
Ich hatte den perfekten traum Noch gar micht lange her Aufregend und doch schlecht Was ist wirklich? Ich weiss es nicht!
It had fallen dark The winds howled round me I felt the spark That inspired me
Die dunkelheit kam Heulende sturme um mich herum Ich spurte die funken Die mich erweckten, die mich erweckten
I watch I hesitate I cry and implore The power I hate The power I adore
Sweet melody Unexpected cold figure I just want to feel Pain becomes lust and pleasure
His eyes met mine Time stood still My glory will shine I feel so tranquil
Die dunkelheit kam Heulende sturme um mich herum Ich spurte die funken Die mich erweckten, die mich erweckten

The translation of the first german verse, is the first english verse... it's the same
and: Die dunkelheit kam Heulende sturme um mich herum Ich spurte die funken Die mich erweckten, die mich erweckten
something like: The darkness came Howling storm around me I saw the sparks that woke me up, that woke me up
Maybe some german native tongue can correct this, but I think it's quite clear.
EDIT: the second non-english (German) verse is also in the song in english, but a bit later:
It had fallen dark The winds howled round me I felt the spark That inspired me
(I think the song translation is better for the feeling, but I think some is lost by making it rhyme)

I think you know this song for exactly one year, 5 months and 24 days.... no, stupid joke around a year and a half I'd say. Anyway, it's my favourite RC song, and the first I heard from them too.

This is the chorus of the song Eruption, by DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER Thanks in advance! If somebody wants a translation of a spanish text, I can translate it.

Starshine on my existence Blood sweetly flows through my veins Will in moment to the eternity (...sehnen...) Space and time dissappear - how everything begs
I think it is something like this...

For the people who speak Finnish, what does "Täytta Ymmärrystä Vailla" mean?

For the people who speak Finnish, what does "Täytta Ymmärrystä Vailla" mean? Täyttä ymmärrystä vailla = "fully without understanding"; to be precise, namely to be incapable of comprehending oneself, the situation, surroundings, acts, results etc. which one has got into and/or involved in. EDIT: "Non compos mentis" -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non_compos_mentis
