In 'wooden pints' Hittavainen plays the violin while walking and holding the instrument in front of his stomach.
How can he play like that, or how can he use the fingers of his left hand properly? It seems almost impossible. Or does he not really play?

that's the traditional folk way to play the violin allover Europe, isn't it?

Just move the bow and your fingers pointlessly, and get the music from playback. Easy. Well, actually I can play like that too, but my electric violin is a bit too long for that. It can also be hard if you're short (I'm 181cm). The violin that I used in the video is a viola, by the way. The viola is a bit bigger and has a lower scale than an ordinary violin. And you can't actually even play wooden pints with a viola properly.

Hittavainen: thanks a lot for the explanation. I already guessed you weren't playing for real; but I didn't know it really could be done this way. Yesterday we tried this ourselves, with very less result besides twisted wrists. I think we're not tall enough and also need a lot more practice. But who cares... the video is great and the way you seem to play fits!
