I understand that feeling! Me too > I would have given a LOT to see them live just ONCE in my life! They were coming to Helsinki I think but then that happened, well what can I say... Oh shit... Absolutely amazing band it was: kickass lyrics with kickass music, what else you want from a band?

.... Lately I'm VERY into "Sons of Riddermark" by Battlelore... I enjoy the live clip a lot. I know it's not very viking/folk but it's powerful ... and I'm in love with Maria Aye, Lumsk are great, I have their CD (bought in Sweden ) and Glittertind 'is' also interesting, specially his version of Storm's "Mellom bakkar og berg". There's really a great amount of interesting bands... and that's so nice. Sooner or later there will be a folk/viking metal fest, you'll see.

i think 'Mellom bakkar og berg' is a norwegian folk song, like the rest of Strom's songs & Glittertind's as well Battlelore have some really good songs, and 'Sons of Riddermark' is my favorite (but the 'Journey to Undying Lands' video looks more like something for Korpiklaani or Finntroll... doesn't go with the song i guess )

I don't know in the case of Glittertind, but in Storm's "Nordavind" the songs are traditional, but with new lyrics if I'm not wrong, at least in some songs. I also find differences in the lyrics in "Mellom bakkar og berg" between Storm and Glittertind. Could someone knowing Norwegian if the songs in "Nordavind" are in nynorsk? That's a doubt I've had since listening to the album for the first time. I think I've seen some differences from bokmal. No, I can't speak Norwegian, but I'm a language-freak

Hi there. Just discover Korpiklaani, gonna buy the CD, it's khoool Here's my fav albums list, different from yours I would say: - Ensiferum / st ;D - Ensiferum / Iron ;D - Wuthering Heights / Far from the Madding Crowd ;D - Einherjer / Blot - Thyrfing / Urkraft - Moonsorrow / Kivenkantaja - Falkenbach / ...magni blandinn ok megintiri... - Falkenbach / ...en their medn riki fara... - Elvenking / I own the last one only, but it's not the best one - Thyrfing / Hednaland Ensiferum s/t and Iron are definitely the best albums of all time for me. The new Wuthering Heights is amazing. Thyrfing reminds me of Ensiferum, but not as perfect. I like some of Fintroll material, not convinced by Cruachan at all, I like some of windir. My influences were (before turning to viking & folk metal): power/epic metal (fav bands: Heavenly, Sonata, Domine, Rhapsody, Blind Guardian), then melodeath (fav: CoB, Dark Tranquility, Norther). Started Viking metal with Einherjer-Blot. I HAVE to listen to more viking/folk (older Einherjer albums to start with), cause it has everything other bands has + folk elements ;D Stay Metal \m/ Shinji.

I just saw Einherjer's "Live at Milwaukee bootleg", I must say I was a little bit disappointed because of Raknar's sign. It was something between screaming and singing. I hope it can be explained by bad sound quality or just bad gig but if Raknar was that bad in every gig I will change my opinion about him (well who cares about that but still...). Fortunately Einherjer did 2 great albums with Raknar!

Thyrfing reminds me of Ensiferum, but not as perfect. Funny to hear that! To my opinion they are both quite different... okay, both is "Viking" Metal, if you wanna say so, but both have a very unique outstanding style of their own... Ensiferum s/t and Iron are definitely the best albums of all time for me. Ah... I have to agree! I just saw the band live at 2 festivals, they sooo kick ass and drive the crowd wild!! And even live the songs sound very great (the "clean vocal" singing parts sound sooo great), I was veeery happy about that (as, you know, some other bands are just very bad live, even if the albums are good)....
