we are huge korpi fans, from holland. and is it just us, or is korpi's live sound technology always this crappy?
we were at summer darkness in utrecht, and after seeing negura bunget and týr, which had perfect and crystal clear sound, and then we were all hyped up and drunk for korpiklaani and... we heard like grinding noises and saw jonnes mouth moving, but not really anything like vocals.
and before playing their flag hung up upside down xD
it was cool, but not as cool as it would be with some good sound.
we were also at zwarte cross, after seeing delain and the textures, both with the same hi-def sound, there was korpi and... well you know the drill. it sounded like crap, thanks to the sound tech.

I would risk saying that it was the venue's technology that didn't deal great with Korpiklaani's gear. I've seen them both in a bigger venue, and in a smaller venue, and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the sound quality in either...

I'd be happy just to see them, even with sub-quality sound!

I'd be happy just to see them, even with sub-quality sound! Hel, I'd be happy hearing them sing drunken a capalla in the venue parking lot! Along with what karras was saying though, many times it is more so the venue. Which of course the band and crew have little control over. I had tech friends who were constantly forced to deal with faulty venue equipment, even when the venue itself appeared top of the line, and usually they were unaware of any problems until during the show!

Unfortunately, you are not the first one, who gives us the feedback like this. We must start to work with this. It is good to get this kind of feedback because we there in the stage can't hear at all what is the situation with the main sound.

Yes, we have this problem too - sometimes we have to shout during the gigs "Hey, we can't hear the vocals!"
I've seen only one KK show, with Falchion and Exsecratus... and Exsecratus had a really shitty sound. Maybe, after their set the sounman was replaced...

Today would be a great day to try to tune the vocals up in Järvenpää.
I concur that vocals have been quite hard to hear sometimes, but usually I've believed that this has been my own fault because you cant hear anything when you shout along.
Uh-oh, now I think it is time to clock out from work and start to prepare for the evening... after all the gig starts within 8-10 hrs, so it is high time to start to build up the state of mind and body with beer for the show, right?

I will have to further concur. When you played in the states, the concert was AMAZING, but the vocals were almost impossible to hear. Well, except for the echoing "VODKA" during Vodka. But with the entire crowd chanting how could you not hear it?

The satyrical me says: at least you got to hear my conationals Negura Bunget as it should.. BUT, the good me says: I'd listen Korpiklani anytime, anywhere, in windy times and rain, with frozen ears and without food....though I'd prefer them with a serenade at the balcony ;D ;D OK, now being serious: the crystal clear sound is sometimes less important, especially with bands like KK who install a good feeling in people and can make you dance no matter what! Or I am too much of a fan now.. ;D

I saw Korpiklaani twice last year and the sound was great. Then I went to the Paganfest in Berlin on the 13th and yes something was wrong with the sound. As I am not a technician I cannot really explain what it was. But last night I was in Pratteln in the Z7 and the sound was perfect (as was the show!), so I also think it has to do with the venue.

I have noticed in a few live videos that the vocals are really difficult to hear. Haven't managed to see the band live yet!

Hm, I was at Summerdarkness too, the sound didn't bother me, I was in the front row and I had the time of my life!

Didn't notice the sound problem during Dynamo, but seemed to me that Jonne had a problem with his mic not working properly on graspop last year
