UMK final will take place in Helsinki Ice Hall
It has been revealed that the Finnish national final to select the country's entry to the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku will be held in Helsinki Ice Hall 25 February. This is the biggest venue to host the Finnish final in almost 20 years, with the maximum capacity of 10200 people. Eurovision fans have been offered a chance to buy their tickets in a week-long presale.
Tickets for the even will be in general sale on 30 October. Ticket presale for the Finnish final is already open for fans, and the best seats in front of the stage are �35. Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE will also reveal the 40 best of the demos submitted to Uuden musiikin kilpailu UMK (Contest for new music) next Monday in a press conference. They will be posted on the UMK website and then also played on YLE Radio Suomi on January Sundays. The songs will then be whittled down to 12 and then only six for the final by a professional jury. There is a series of programmes leading up to the final following this process.
Several names have been revealed to have sent their demos in the contest. The latest additions are 80's pop princess Anja Niskanen looking for a come back. 90's dance act Movetron, folk metal rockers Korpiklaani and pop artists Martina Aitolehtio, Tauski and Teuvo Loman have also been mentioned, as well as several still unknown artists.
