Thanks to the great metal music, that is 'produced' in Finland, the interest in Finland's culture, literature, habits, language, traditions and scenery grows.
I do not know if that counts for anybody, but we want to know more (a lot more!) about Finland. I suppose that some Finnish forum members could tell us about their country. I mean their personal views and experiences.
And don't tell us that great music is coming from Finland, that we already know! ;D

The first site I already knew, it's quite good, but actually I'd like to know more about Finland by it's inhabitants. Advertise your country, tell us how great /odd things are! ;D Most of us are already interested, but have no opportunity to learn more from inside...

It would be much easier to tell about certain issues, than just "anything that one knows". EDIT: We've got too much of "great and odd things" here, so it's very difficult to choose.

Well, maybe you have a suggestion?
If not, maybe about tradition, for a start... I know this still is a broad field...
Festivities? ;D

Well, maybe you have a suggestion? If not, maybe about tradition, for a start... I know this still is a broad field... Festivities? ;D What people usually happen to do because of "a habit": virtual.finland.fi/netcomm/news/showarticle.asp?intNWSAID=26049Not much left of older and more heathen traditions or happenings in nowadays people's life, only few short festivals in the spirit of the ancient times, mostly during the summer-time here and there, reflecting the traditional Finnish culture and history; some of them surely are very nice, but in general everything is more or less commercial leaven and futility. Exceptions always exist, but mostly the normal people are after all kinds of trends and the ways of modern European life-styles, as well as activities and phenomena of popular culture. Finland is a rich country but sometimes people have definitely no idea of how to use it's resources and wealth in the essential way. And when a Finn goes to party, usually he/she just drinks in the Finnish way (= too much) and then he/she is "having fun". Yey. Festivities and traditions - check. What else do you want to know..?

I at least find it very hard to describe my surroundings like that. This is similiar to the good old "How does it feel to be a Finn" - question that I don't know how to answer, since I can't compare to anything

Well, you all are right. I thought about someone asking me the same about my country, I really wouldn't know where to start, what to tell.
Maybe you can tell something about Finnish literature, for a start. The only Finnish author I've ever read something of is Aleksis Kivi, cannot think of anybody else. But there must be numerous modern or less modern Finnish writers whose books are translated in English. Can you tell something about it, or even recommend a book?
Same counts for movies. Any recommendation?
Maybe these questions are dumb, but here (in het Netherlands) we hardly hear anything about Finland. Only nasty murders on VIP's are in the news.
