I don't know, thyrfing should be just viking They should just make music the way they want to, regardless of what other people think about it, as long as the band is pleased with it. (personally they're not my cup o'tea)

(personally they're not my cup o'tea) I agree but when they have a blacky past and now their music is a lot less black, why do they still play those black songs live? I think that when you change your music you should perform more like it....

I got the latest Battlelore album this week. This one is very nice, like the rest of the Battlelore albums:P Again it's not that rough but I like it time to time. It's called The Third Age of the Sun. And Battlelore will come to the Netherlands soon!;D

So....some songs of "Vannesvisor" are still of the same type with these synthesiozers and so on...but they should not play those black songs...

Although I haven't listened to any of so called "viking bands" for a long time anymore because I've got more than pissed off towards the whole scene, I'd however say that Thyrfing's "Vansinnesvisor" is absolutely their best album to me ever; it's brutal, it's catchy and it has got a strong close-to-the-soil atmosphere, but from my own experience in metal music since '89, I would NEVER connect Vansinnesvisor with any school of black metal; they have simply nothing to do with each other, despite of the "darker" mood of the Thyrfing -album in question.

Well, I like "Till Valfader Urgammal" and "Urkraft" and "Mjölnir" and "The Slumber of Yesteryears" and and and..... Great album....why did they change their music? Urkraft is my favorite Thyrfing album also, but I guess they wanted to go back to their old sound.

Does anyone know if Farsotstider is more like the older albums or is it more like Vannesvisor? Wanna know if I should buy it or not!

Wow what a great thread! Especially for someone relatively new to the genre like me - I just went through the entire thing copy-pasting bands I've never heard of... so much to hear!! It's amazing! heheheh I've just spent probably 90% of my disposable income on CDs over the past year, looks like that won't be changing anytime soon... ;D The only problem is, some albums seem like pure unobtainium here! I end up ordering a lot of CDs internationally, but still there are some I'm having so much trouble finding. Here's a list of my faves so far.. I probably don't have much new to add though, since I'm still discovering. Korpiklaani / Shaman - ALL of them of course! Einherjer - Blot, Norwegian Native Art, Odin Owns Ye All Moonsorrow - all Finntroll - Jaktens Tid, Nattfodd, Trollhammaren mini-cd Vintersorg - all of them; yes, the later progressive ones too! Asmegin - I can't wait till they make more albums!!! Elvenking - all of them Cruachan - all except Tuatha na Gael (much too raw for my tastes) Windir - all but especially the first two Falkenbach - all of them Skyclad - most of them (maybe not so much the first couple) here's a couple I didn't see mentioned, that I also love: Orphaned Land - Israeli folk metal - quite cool and exotic! Solefald - I don't know what kind of metal this is considered, I think it has folk influences but I could be wrong, but in any case it is pretty damn awesome

In here we've used to also give some few words why some albums/bands/books/everything are the best in order to avoid only simple listing things in the topics.

okay, i try to tell something about why i like these albums. Ensiferum - Victory Songs is the first Ensiferum's album which was mostly sung by Petri Lindroos. I think that he's "croacking" match the fast and technical songs. Finntroll - Jaktens Tid, Nattfödd sounds so cheery. i like melodic keyboards and there are lot of wery good synth melodies on those albums. Metsatöll - Hiiekoda sounds so odd to me 'cos i don't understand Estonian at all. sounds like the songs are singed by Finnish but vocalist can't pronounce those words. of course Hiiekoda is lot more than that. i like the rhytms of that album and bagpipes are so awesome. Holy Blood - Waves Are Dancing is only Christian folk metal album that i know. their first album The Wanderer was mostly black metal so i don't count it in folk metal genre. there is also bagpipes in Waves Are Dancing and melodies of that album are amazingly varied. i also like the lyrics
