Well, I wont put Korpiklaani beacause it's pretty obvious that if I'm here is because I like it Windir - Arntor (best album ever, I just can't explain why... it's full of epicism, power, and sadness at the same time, and also a lot of stuff more) Bathory - Blood Fire Death & Hammerheart (the two albums that started my favourite genre, filled with amazing songs and incredibly powerful) Turisas - The Varangian Way (it's very epic, you really feel like you're in a glorious quest when you listen to it) Skiltron - The Clans Have United (simply one of the best folk metal albums I've heard, listening to this is like watching Braveheart) Moonsorrow - Voimasta Ja Kunniasta & Kivenkantaja (I like Moonsorrow because it really gets you inside the music, even when I don't understand suomi, I can feel what's happening at every momment, what's all about, and the music it's also epic like Turisas) Mithotyn - Gathered Aroun The Oaken Table (Isn't this album just great? it's like if someone mixed Iron Maiden with viking metal, and the result is awesome!) Nazgul - De Expugnatione Elfmuth (black metal mixed with folk, and classical music, you can note very well the influences from Vivaldi, and I also believe there's something of Bach and Wagner there... and you know whats best? This mix is perfect, amazing songs that take you to a world where we the orcs march to destroy everything, what else can you ask?) Probably I'm missing something, but there are just too much great viking and folk metal bands, and if I had to put every album I like probably I'll be writting 'til I die xD

Well... Yeah I now I was hopeing to get away with that one Bathory - Pretty much, the first viking metal band. And Hammerheart is just pure genius. Sound it's not so good, but tracks like One Road To Asa Bay and Baptised In Fire And Ice kicks ass. Otyg - More folk than metal and that's what I like about them. Volkolak - not to famous band from Russia. Now they are playing NS BM (stupid NS ideology :/), but the first two albums are pure folk. Very catchy songs Thyrfing - when I first heard them I was amazed. Really good and aggresive metal, but very folky and catchy. I think, that even dancing to some of thier tracks is possible Falkenbach - All their albums are pretty much the same, but this one is somehow better than the rest. Better songwriting I guess. Storm - funny band. Fenriz really did a number with that one There's even a Darkthrone song cover Fintroll - One word - Trollhammaren!

Well... Yeah I now I was hopeing to get away with that one The history of this board has shown that if we would "get away with that one", these topics would fill only with listing, listing and listing things after one another without decent and namely informative discussion. I don't see any point in this empty listing because of the listing itself. If one tells why something means something to him/herself, the whole idea gives much more and brings much more thoughts and opinions.

I don´t listen to so many folk-metal bands, but my favourite albums in the last year were Ensiferum- Victory songs I like the power the album brings with and the songs have very good melodies. Korpiklaani-Tervaskanto of course I like the atmosphere the album has got. Every song has got its own peculiarities.

Leaves' Eyes - Vinland Saga, Legend Land Bathory - Nordland I and II
Gotta love Leaves' Eyes for the magnificent vocals. And the message, it really carries me away to a Viking habitat and makes me live all their worries and joys.
For Folk bands Korpiklaani ofcourse, and Metsatöll. From them I don't have a single favourite album because I love each and every song. Some more, some less, but I still do. Metsatöll is almost like Korpiklaani but it is more rough and mostly deals more serious stuff, like historic battles between ancient estonians and their enemies, like russians for example xD.

At this point I can't even tell between the bands. Since the mid 90s (I'd think when Skyclad released Prince of the Poverty Line), if not earlier, folkmetal has been my top preferred genre in all music. (slightly higher than spanish madrigals). It's the power that is invoked when a violin or a wind instrument like the bagpipe dominates over the standard metal sound. It's like an epic inwards travel of some gigantic soul.
There are a couple of albums that in their wholeness invoke this feeling to me. One of them is Skyclad's Irrational Anthems, another one is Korpiklaani's Tales Along This Road. Bathory's Blood Fire Death and Hammerheart do that in a lesser extent.

But as a whole I like folk-metal sounding with different folk instruments like violin, pipe, hurdy-gurdy and s.o. Some of the bands: Korpiklaani ;D, TYR, Ensiferum, Eluveitie, Finntroll, Svartsot, Heidefolk, Hagalaz' Runedans, Tarujen Saari, Falkenbach, Glittertind, Turisas, Lumsk, Metsatol, Skyforger, Arkona, Severnye Vrata, Volkolak (the first two albums), Alkonost, Moonsorrow, Folkearth, Manegarm.....
