My first solo song, Itellajoonin blues (Postman Blues), is now in YouTube. Played with my brand new electric kantele and shot with camera (my woman Katri held the camera). Thus the sound will be primitive as hell, but you'll get the picture. Here you have, awkward metal blues played with electric kantele, sang in throat-singing and lyrics in Kalevala-metre, but in modern Finnish. In this YouTube-version you can read the rough translation too. Itellajoonin bluesPlease, feel free to comment!

Well, it's not really my cop of tea, the electric kantele sounds cool but it's kind of naked all alone in my opinion... Also the cameras microphone doesn't do it justice. But I must say, your throat singing is beautiful! I absolutely loved it.

The whole idea was only to present the stuff that I'm working on. I just thought that it was already obvious enough that one shot with camera and one instrument isn't any "ready" version yet. I just thought that it should go without saying. I wished more comments about the song itself, etc.

Dunno what the postman did ,or what's his story, but it damned inspired good sounds (or was it the other way around? First the music, then the story that matched it?). Mostly I like the parts where rhythm breaks and goes on with the same roughness&harmony...kantele has that special quality I guess (and now I will spare everyone of my praises for throat singing. ) Really think the song is convincing and if you go further with this idea, I say ,hailz!'.

Dunno what the postman did ,or what's his story, but it damned inspired good sounds (or was it the other way around? Lyrics are printed in that link I gave. And the translations. The story is here. Just to make sure, I print it over here too: ITELLAJOONIN BLUES (säv. ja san. Jyrkäs)Moi, mä oon itellajooni, postinkantaja iloinen! Moi, mä jaan sun postit, kortit, ulosottokirjeesikin.
Päiväni on tuskaa täynnä, vuoteen piinaa mahtuu paljon, överiä yllin kyllin, elämää vain niin vähäsen.
Hosuvan orangin lailla, kasaan runnon mä mun piirin! Päiviä on näitä paljon täällä mun Perslahdentiellä.
Sit on vielä postinsaajat, ylen tyhmät vittuilijat, päätänsä he aukoilevat, mollaavat ja mussuttavat:
"Miksi myöhässä on posti?" "Anteeks', tää asu ei täällä!" "Syvemmälle työnnä postit!" "Diipadaapa, lässyn lässyn!"
Hosuvan orangin lailla, kasaan runnon mä mun piirin! Päiviä on näitä paljon täällä mun Perslahdentiellä.
Menee rikki pyörät, kärryt, lehdet lentää pitkin teitä. Vihmoo myrskyt, paineet suuret, menee hermot, ja mä suutun!
Tätä on mun kestäminen, tätä on mun jaksaminen. Tää on lauluni suruinen, tää on blues itellajoonin.
And free translation is here: POSTMAN BLUES (song & lyrics by Jyrkäs) Hi, I'm the postman, I'm the glad mailman. Hi, I'll bring to you your posts, your cards, I'll even bring your foreclosure letters.
My day is full of pain. There's much misery in one year, overtime job as much as can be, But no life at all.
Like a wild orangutang, I'll sort all my posts! I have long days ahead In my Ass Coast Avenue.
All of my customers Are fucking me over. Mocking me, teasing me, Whining and moaning:
"Why my post is late?" "I'm sorry, but this person dos not live here!" "Push my post a little deeper!" "Yackety-yak, yadi-yadi!"
Like a wild orangutang, I'll sort all my posts! I have long days ahead In my Ass Coast Avenue.
All my bikes and cars will go down, All my posts will fly over the streets. Raging thunder, deep pressure, I'll loose my temper and I'll become hostile!
This is what I have to take, This is what I have to stand for. This is my sad song, This is the Postman Blues. The lyrics came first. I'm currently working as a mailman, so this is from my own deep experiences, heh.. ;D

The lyrics came first. I'm currently working as a mailman, so this is from my own deep experiences, heh.. ;D That reminds of Kotiteollisuus' hilarious video for "Kaihola", with its very own orangutan Posteljouni ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hqvA0QgarwThey'd never show that on TV here I agree with the others, you've got great throat singing man, and the kantele sounds great. What effects do you run it through? I also like the lyrics, great rhythm, alliteration, consonation as we say in English. When I run the Finnish words through my head, I am reminded of the verses in Väkirauta - so that is Kalevala metre too?

I agree with the others, you've got great throat singing man, and the kantele sounds great. What effects do you run it through? I don't use effects much. It's just an ordinary distorted sound of an Roland Micro Cube amplifier. Nothing else. I also like the lyrics, great rhythm, alliteration, consonation as we say in English. When I run the Finnish words through my head, I am reminded of the verses in Väkirauta - so that is Kalevala metre too? Almost all of my text have been in Kalevala-metre. But there's a big difference with this and the previous text. All previous text have been in an archaic form and in ancient Finnish. This one is namely in modern Finnish and in modern language. I'm shifting to use the tongue I actually speak and not an any ancient tongues that no-one anymore even understand.

Where is that silly face emoticon when needed? Oh ,they don't have it here..or I'd use it: I just didn't notice the lyrics, so thank you for posting them. Now I understand the angry parts better. So...tis like they say, aye? Best art comes out from different forms of suffering... Heh, and even sucking jobs give birth to such.

The electric kantele has rich sound and great possibilities, even the "home made" sound can't hide them.

"Push my post a little deeper!"
They should make this the new tag-line for the post service!
Silly stuff aside, I 'm appreciating the sound of the el. kantele. Nice on.

I decided to do my first solo demo with my brand new 15-stringed electric kantele. My purpose is at the first place to move away from ethnic concept and make a good demo tape with good punk, rock and metal songs. There's no other string instrument than electric kantele! Songs will come out with shouting and throat-singing. The demo was recorded, drum-programmed, produced, cover-arted and mixed by A. Tolonen, who is known from the bands Nest & Syven. You can listen the whole demo from these sites: www.myspace.com/juhajyrkaswww.mikseri.net/juhajyrkasPhysical CD from the demo will come out later for those who really want it. Most of it will go out for promotion purposes, though. Feel free to listen and comment!

Well, you probably have no shortage of fans here, but anyway... it's really good stuff, isn't it? The electric kantele sounds like an army of guitars, it has such a powerful "wall-of-sound" presence, but without being overwhelming or overbearing. I thought the doom metal track was particularly effective, so too Lasiset Huulet. Great cover art too . I wish you well man.

I have a question for all of you. Does anyone know about any good media (radio, magazine, zine, netsite, etc.) where to send my demo outside Finland. I'm not so familiar about it. If you know any place where I could send my demo, get a review of it and in the best situation have an interview, I would be very grateful!
