What dog breeds do you fancy, crystiannia? I'm 100% a dog person... I enjoy cats and love all animals, but my heart and soul belongs to dogs. I had a beagle that I got when I was 5.5 years old, and she came to US with me and travelled everywhere I went... she passed away after 13 years, the vet said she had cancer It was so sad to lose a faithful companion and a friend... Now I'm living with a black labrador-german shepherd mix that I've rescued from the pound, sweetest and kindest and gentlest soul... truly a spirit/power animal, the connection is incredible.

Black and white kitties abound!! They are the classics eh? Before technicolor calicos! ;D I have my heart set on an Alaskan Malamute. A few hours south of here is a rescue society for them I would like to stop by. I've met this breed type several times before and I love them so dearly! Such big fuzzy mushballs! Akitas and Elkhounds, Samoyed and Siberians as well. When the time comes whoever needs to be rescued most will come home with me. I need a running partner! But we aren't allowed pups where I live now. I'm a firm believer that dogs should look like dogs and not be able to fit in a pocket or purse! My son's best friend is his uncle's mush Cleo, a black lab/pit bull mix. When I was there I used to spend many a night cuddled up with her head on my pillow with me. She's a little doofy, but if I could I would snatch her up in a second!

Yes! black and white cats rules hehe, I love their white line between their eyes. My cat is sleeping here as you saw in the pic I posted before, she's the queen since I adopted her ;D I'd like to own a dog, but I live in a flat, and dogs need a lot of place tu run, is not the same with cats, they are happy in their own kingdom, they only need a window, sun, a bed and their "cat-sand" (?). Back to dogs, for example I'd like an Irish Setter, I see them so sweet, or maybe a Border Collie . The "mix" dogs are cool too, they usually are more intelligent and you don't need to go to the vet so often, they are stronger than the others I have too a few tropical fishes, they are old, 6 years with me, I love my plecostomus, he's 17 cm, a big and beautifull fish ;D

I enjoy all animals naturally, but I am a dog lover for the most part. I've lived with cats my whole life, and you can only pick up so many piles of puke and poop before you just get tired of it. I'm with you on that Crystiannia, if the dog fits in your purse, it is not a dog. I love bigger breeds, since they are the oldest and most fit dogs. German Shepherds have always been one of my favorites, and not just because of the German part. They are loyal, wonderful companions and are some of the most glorious looking dogs I have seen. Another breed I truly Love is the Saarloos Wolfhund, the only problem with them though is that you need to be with them at least a few hours everyday, or else they tear up the house trying to "look for you". They are great dogs, gorgeous and just overall amazing, but a friend of mine in Sweden told me a lot about them, and the fact that you need to be around them so much makes them a breed I could never own, as I plan to travel a lot. Hopefully I will get to meet more people with this breed so that I can visit them though. They are truly wonderful. In this current house it is nothing but cats, like 8 or 9 of them. All of which have been rescued from outside, mine in particular I found outside about to die in the rain after apparently just being born shortly before. She could fit in my hand, and she is such a wonderful cat. (I named her Regenhild as a tribute to surviving the rain-storm) Where I am moving to next though there is 2 cats and one dog, the dog is a rat terrier though, and although he is a nice dog and provides good laughter and enjoyment, it is not the type of dog I'd ever care to have. I think once I am on my own I wont have any pets though. We will see though, I guess I just prefer seeing them in their natural environment, but then again these animals have accepted their pet status and do genuinely love being around us. But I'm afraid that with my plans of frequent travel (that I hope can come to life), owning a pet would be neglecting it...

I like animals too, but I don't have any... Nearly all my friends have cats. The main disadvantage of the cats is that every time when you decide to visit a toilet (I like beer, so it is really necessary), you see there a small tray with cat crap - no one likes cleaning it often! But having a dog is much harder, because you have to take a dog for a walk at least 3-4 times a day. We live in a flat, and sometimes there's nobody at home for nearly all the day... I know a girl that is really fond of animals, she has three cats, some fishes, a turtle... once she had a snake, and once even an african roach. I like cats, but most of them have an unpredictable temper. One of her cats is named Eiric (after the name of the famous viking). So once that viking cat made an in-flight maneuver from the wardrobe right on my head - then he clutched at my head with his claws and roared "MMIIIIIIEEEEEEAAAAAOOOOOOOOWWW!!!!!!". Crap, I nearly got a heart attack. The dogs... I don't know. I hate the small creatures, that every glamour r'n'b girl has, like those stupid pekingeses, chihuahuas and especially the yorkshire terriers! The yorkshires bark for 24 hours a day... once our neighbors bought that thing, and I wished to buy a shotgun and kill it, and then sleep well at last. If dogs originated from wolves, then, please, tell me, what did the yorkshire-chihuahua wolf look like? I like German Shepherds, it is a very popular breed here - they are very smart and loyal friends. But I'll get pets only if I will live alone once...

Yes, true many people do, but it is quite hard to travel with a bigger dog I think. Especially when I got to Europe, there would be having to go through airport customs, then I would have no place for the animal... Better only to get one I think when I settle in somewhere when I am 80 years old... Heck, even then I will still travel! The Odin-esque old man walking around with a dog and Staff. Ahhhh, I feel your pain croc. Our neighbors that recently moved in have one of those damned things too. CONSTANT barking, and just like you I felt like grabbing my Shotgun and taking care of it. Although I couldn't do that, I would have to just steal the dog, and take it somewhere far away. haha. I just think the point to have a dog is to both have a great companion, and to have someone who can protect your house and your family when you are or are not there. A terrier does nothing but stand around looking cute. No offense to all the terrier lovers out there. Anything that makes you feel great and gives you Love I am all for, but these dogs are simply not for me. The thing I prefer about dogs on the whole going to the bathroom thing, is that even if you have to take them on walks often, you can train them to let you know when they have to go. You can put a bell on the door that they ring, or they will even come up to you and give you that "I have to piss" look. Where as with cats, if their litter box isn't clean just the way they like it, you only know once you put on your shoes one day and find there is that wonderful smell of pee that you step into.... Dogs are much easier to deal with and can connect with much better than cats. Cats can show little communication with humans other than "pet me" and "I'm hungry" while meowing next to their empty food bowl. But dogs and humans seem as if they can actually talk in a sense. Dogs seem to connect and understand how humans are feeling, even if they have no possible means of speaking it or the like. They are truly smart and wonderful animals, and it is no wonder they are called "Mans best friend" and used in every possible situation. Rescue dogs, seeing-eye dogs for the blind, dogs that can even detect health problems in an individual, who have even pulled people out of the street before getting hit by uncoming traffic. There was even a dog in a lab years back that could smell the samples the scientist had on the table, and by a signal could determine what specimen was cancerous: sometimes it even detected it when the doctor had overlooked it or when it has not quite developed. This is just amazing! Powerful senses that we as humans have lost over years of avoiding nature and building temples.... I just wonder if dogs can play instruments, perhaps that is how I will ever be able to form a black metal or folk metal band here.

@croc: Oh that is hysterical! Your cat story was the funniest thing I've heard all day!! Although I'm thinking that might have hurt a bit! My cat is a more subtle asassin: she waits until you are stumbling to the bathroom at 4 in the morning and then tangles herself in your feet. She's rather covert in her missions. Here is an old pic from when my snake was but a baby. The cats favorite spot was on top of the tank and as the snake grew and the cat got heavier, I so waited to see what would happen if she fell in! (Oh, I'm sure she would have been fine! Um... perhaps? LOL!) I also have a pretty beta fish in a bubble on the wall. His name is Eric Draven the 8th -- and he really is the 8th. I seem to have horrible luck with betas! Since the snake is gone and I have an empty 50 gallon tank, I think some more fish are in order. I could fill the entire thing with neon and day glo tetras!!

Cats are really funny sometimes... My other friend has a cat with a very band temper. If you are walikng by the sofa, on which that cat is lying, you always get a strike=) So we call her (translation is approximate) a "Take-That-You-Bastard" cat. And if you pull your sock off - then she'll sneak up to you and bite you in your ankle. So we are little afraid of this little thing.
Crystiannia, no, it didn't hurt, but it was freakin' SURPRISE!

I have a Capricorn and a Taurus. They are not very bad pets, if you leave them in piece somewhere in the meadows and call them from time to time for the dinner. ;D ;D ;D
