ina : I love the guy on your avatar... In every respect a great man! Often listen to his music, though it's not exactly folk and not from my country.... A friend recently told me the life story of this man... amazing! Sad he ended this way... "Everybody's sayin' sing Tapsa. Nobody's sayin', have a sandwich Tapsa..." In honour of Tapsa: Tapio Rautavaara - Juokse sinä humma I really have to quote you on the fact that Tapio Rautavaara is a great man! It's hard to catecorize his music in some particular gentre because as you said, it isn't exactly folk but it has some influences what they use also in the finnish folk music...But Tapsa's music is more schlager/shanson to my ears. It's very pleasent to hear that you've found his music, Claudia! It's very special. The quote by him that people think about him as only a singer - not a person is quite sad, but realistic as well; It has happened to many artist/entertainer as well... I mean if you have some talent, people nearly don't accept you without it; If you are a singer - you die as a singer, you can't get rid of it. For exemble everybody wanted Marilyn Monroeto be the funny and maybe a little stubid blonde what she always acted in her movies. Nobody wanted to give her a change to be seriously taken. - Pravda. Ville Valo is probably the most well-known fan of Tapio Rautavaara and has even admitted that he´s taken some influences from Rautavaara. He even said on the interview that if he could wake one death person back to life it would deninatelly be Tapsa

In Italy we Have many Folk musicians from the 20 regions of the State Italy.
Especially from The South and Major-Islands of Italy we preserve folk traditions. We have:
Launeddas from Sardinia, Pizzica Tarantata from Apulia, Arabesche from Calabria,
Tarantella From Naples and Sicily.
And we are now preserving also Laics Processions, We have that every country have ST.Patrons (like ST. Peters, Paul, Oronzo, and many more).
This Music is only FOLK not e Folk Metal. I like Folk, and I like also Folk Metal. Pellonpekko

edit: read up on Tapio Rautavaara. Charismatic character indeed.

I'm Listening Estonian Pagan-Folk Metal Now, the band is Raud-Ants, someone Knows??? I've seen Raud-Ants live as I lived in Estonia and I have their first MCD. Their idea in general seems interesting, but in their first MCD there are far too much problems emerging metal and traditional music together. In many ways they seem to be forced into this mix. But I'm waiting their new material, which may be a little more better conception, if those problems to suit these two genres together will die out. pellonpekko: Please, avoid double postings. It's the first time I listen to Estonian Metal, because when I lived in Tallinn I didn't find anything cause I didn't know the language. Now I found an interesting site about Estonian Metal: www.estonianmetal.com that is giving to me all bands now in action in Estonia. Raud-Ants are not really Folk Metal I listened. I wait like you new material from Raud-Ants then next Year when I come back To Tallinn I will take it. Do You know where is a Heavy Metal Shop in Tallinn?? I would find it. pellonpekko

Raud-Ants are not really Folk Metal I listened. Raud-Ants has very good concept from the side of traditional music, so in that point of view it's recommendable. Their songs are based in original Estonian trad. runo-songs. But their way to use metal in it ie. with poor death growls, namely isn't the right way to do it - or at least not in the way they did it in ie. in song Karjasepõli. Like said before, I hope they find the right balance in this, because they share much potential, because of their use in real tradition instead of this basic viking/folk/pagan/killthechristians mumbo jumbo. Do You know where is a Heavy Metal Shop in Tallinn?? I would find it. pellonpekko www.lasering.eewww.nailboard.org
