I have the Tales, Ale and Fire album, which I love listening to. I had no idea they had broken up, it's a shame they didn't make anything else.

the best romanian rock band is one of folk/etno-rock. the band is called Phoenix and next year will celebrate 45 years. you can listen some of their songs here www.transsylvania-phoenix.nettheir best album is Cantafabule (in english ....something la SungFables). this is a concept album inspired by a medieval book about fantastic animals, a mythically allegory. you must try this. but...the bad news is that the lyrics are in romanian

There is one "Israeli Folk Metal" band from here called Orphaned Land, which is (suprisingly) quite famous around the world (mostly europe), and they had a few gigs in some festivals (Summer Breeze 2005, Wacken 2006, and some others I believe). Quite an Oriental band, a strange fusion of Death, Doom, and Oriental music.. Check out thier latest album, "Mabool", a great concept album, with a great story behind it.

How interesting, I was listening Orphaned Land - A'salk, from Mabool album, when I decided to enter the forum and I found your post. I like the group, it mixes very successfully oriental music with metal rock

Orphaned Land are fucking awesome.
From my country....hmmm, there is no proper folk metal band I'm afraid, but there are a few etno and folk groups, like Katalena and Terra Folk.

As Janneke suggested, I put this recommendation here: Korpiklaani's support bands on 22 oct were two Hungarian folk metal bands, Echo of Dalriada, and Sacra Arcana. I've known EoD before, but it was the first time I saw Sacra Arcana, and I was really impressed! So if you want to get to know this amazing band, two full songs can be downloaded from their website ( www.sacraarcana.hu, site only in Hungarian): www.sacraarcana.hu/downloads/sacra_arcana-isten_kardja.mp3"Isten kardja" = "Sword of God" - song is based on an ancient Hungarian legend. www.sacraarcana.hu/downloads/sacra_arcana-around_the_fields_of_athenry.mp3And this is their version of the well-known Irish song, "The Fields of Athenry". I love it! About the other band: website: www.echoofdalriada.hu, also available in English. You can download one song from here: vasvilla.uw.hu/05_Teli_enek.mp3"Téli ének" = "Winter song" Please listen to them, and tell me, what you think.

I like the song from Sacra Arcana, Isten Kardja, quite nice Only the fields of Athenry is, in my opinion, supposed to be a slow, majestic song as it is sung by traditional irish bands too. Slow majestic. So i don't really like that one. The song from Echo of Daldriada is still downloading... site is a bit slow hehe

Slow majestic. So i don't really like that one. Well, it is just their interpretation of the song, but I somehow like those faster, "non-majestic" versions better. I'm glad you liked "Isten Kardja". I tried it again, it's not that slow for me. It is not on their own site, as you can see, these ".uw.hu" sites can behave in a strange way sometimes.

ethno from my country: Silent stream of godless elegy... what a shame that in the Czech republic we don't have a folk-metal tradition, only folk-rock or traditional-rock, for exam Čechomor od Divokej Bill... I am a rocker who listens hundreds all the good music, but trust me that KORPIKLAANI got me to my knees rockin',smilin' and happy little energizer )

Ondra - I saw Divokej Bill at a UK festival last summer and they were great. Though they were on in the early evening of the first day, they went down really well and the crowd seemed to love them.
The festival was run by British band the Levellers, who have a smilar sound.
