@crazy Mary For a short trip in Norway I recommend you the Norway in a Nutshell Tour. You can find details in www.visitnorway.com or www.norwaynutshell.com . It starts from Oslo with the local express train ( www.nsb.no for train schedules) and icludes Flåm railway which is a unique experience. Then if you wish you can spend a few days in Flåm, the local hostel is very good and the owners are very kind. Well, our schedule two years ago in Norway was like this: Day 1: arrive to Oslo, night: in Anker Hostel Day 2: go to Myrdal by the regional train of NSB, here we changed train and continued with Flåm railway; night: Flåm Hostel Day 3: We went back to Myrdal by the railway and walked back to Flåm walley (thats about 20 km) Day 4: We continued our trip to Bergen. (We went back to Myrdal and then took the NSB regionaltrain, due to we had a eurodomino ticket. However, you might can choose a ferry to Gudvangen than a bus to Voss and then continue with the railway to Bergen. Days 5-6: Bergen, we visited the aquarium, Gamle Bergen, and Ulriken hill. Day 7: We took a bus ont he Atlantic Road to Stavanger Day 8: A trip to Preikestolen Day 9: We returned to Oslo by plane ( www.flysas.com ) For Finland you can check www.visitfinland.com but I can’t give you details, because I only want to go to Finland after I will have learned some Finnish. I’m Hungarian, so it is a must for me to learn a bit of Finnish. And here is a link for the only Hungarian Tour operators for scandinavian Countries, they might have an appropriate tour for you from Helsinki, so If you wish, you can contact them and ask for an offer: www.skandinavia.hu/contact .

Thanks very much for this info, MoonDancer! ;D A work friend also recommended the Norway in a Nutshell tour, so it seems fairly popular. It's just the right length, too. I'm still hoping to get to Finland but I'm waiting for some details to be confirmed. If Finland falls through, it's looking more and more like Norway will be my "fall back" country. I have emailed the Hungarian link, so I'll see what they have to offer. Fingers crossed!

Addition: I'd love to go to Japan, as well...visit the scenic countryside, as well as the big cities. Normally, I'm not a big city person (I hate congested vehicle traffic, the fast pace and the general air of misery they seem to exude)...but it would be nice to see places like Tokyo where people know how nice it is to walk places, rather than drive everywhere like they do here. And I like the history/culture of Japan...well, except for the bit of nastiness during WW2

@crazy Mary: I hope they will have a good offer for you. Btw. I think you can visit both Norway and Finland, it only depends from money.
The Norway in a nutshell tour ends in Bergen and I think you can do it in a few days. I based our trip on that tour, but I organized everything by myself. (Now I'm doing the same, planning and re-planning, checking hostels and cabins, coach and ship lines, etc., because we have already bought the plane tickets for a Norway holiday in July).
Then I think there's a direct flight from Bergen to Helsinki or Turku, so you might can look around in Finland as well.

MoonDancer:
I received an email back, unfortunately they don't run tours in Finland. But I was impressed with the fast response (and even a response at all!).
It would be great to have a travelling companion so you could just create the trip you want, as you have done. I'm not sure yet if I will be by myself or with a friend in Finland, but I would be very lonely spending a week on my own in a strange country. I don't think I'm really ready for the challenge of navigating myself through unknown streets - and driving on the "wrong" side of the road!
That's the beauty of a tour group, it gives me some "built in" company. Even though I'm not a very social and friendly person, and the idea of sticking myself with a group of strangers for a week is a bit unnerving, I'm sure the experience will be worth it.
And of course my main aim is to see Korpi in Imatra so if I manage that, I will feel successful, no matter what else happens! ;D

Mexico, definitely. Scuba diving, Aztec temples, everything is dirt cheap.... the possibilities are endless. And of course, Finland.

Arrr! Looks like we are heading to Ireland in September! ;D Too bad that it is somewhat impossible to rent a car until you are 23 years old, so it looks like we have to rely on public transportation. I hope we can get around, since I read that in Ireland it isn't quite on the 21st century yet

If anyone's coming to America soon, and plan on going through the upper mid-west... stop by. I'd be really happy to show you around, I've been to most of the places in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas.
As for me, I'd love to go to Sweden all of the sudden. Seems like a nice place the more I look into it. As it is, I've been reading about Finland's Winter War, I'd like to visit some of the places where some of the fighting took place.

Of course, also kind of expectable, any Scandanavian country (preferable Finland), during winter. I have never seen the northern lights and that's quite a big wish for me. I find this phenomenon really interesting and if simply watching pictures makes me think of them as breathtaking, I wonder how I'd react if I saw them "live". Also, I think northern culture is pretty rich, despite of the fact it's quite underrated, and I'm fascinated of pretty everything that has to do with viking history. I know these countries have a deep, strange, mystic beauty that you can't find in, for example, southern Europe, some kind of lure which northern people probably aren't so conscious about. Anyway. And they have great music too, that would be a second advantage for them. Ireland would also be an amazing destination, cause I've always kind of connected North to Ireland and Great Britain, so these countries tempt me more than any other.
