Dear Poropetra-fans and friends!
A lot of time has passed by since the latest update. Now it's time to tell in public what is happening now in the camp of Poropetra.
Mr. Kuuraparta and drummer Aapo have left the band. They both had the same reasons. They didn't have so much time to devote to Poropetra because they have so much activities going on in their life in general. All this happened in a good way and both musicians are still friends with the remaining members. Poropetra is now searching for the new drummer and also a bass player.
Poropetra's dynamic trio - I, Hittavainen and guitarist Markus Ylikoski - has worked on with the new songs for a while and played them together. This is the first small step for a band in order to change from a studio-band into a real playing band. The road is of course long and painfull, but the first step has now been taken. There are demo versions from the new songs and the planning for a new album has also taken place. At this point the name of the new album will be kept in secrecy, until we have something more to tell you. Let's say that our music will change in radical ways. Once again there are many new spices added into the mixture and the approach into the music is also different from previous albums. We won't reveal more about this, but let's say that the music is now much more guitar-driven than before. But of course kantele-playing, kalevala-metre, folklore lyrics and throat-singing will stay and remain, that's for sure; you can be sure that it's Poropetra playing these new songs.
Our website will be radically updated as I'm able to find enough time for that. Until then, it'll stay as it lays. The band will continue working on with the new material and searching for the new skillfull players. We'll inform you again, as the time is right.
The first print of Sinihirwi-album is now sold out, but the new print will be taken during this summer. So stay tuned!

This announcement comes much more quicker than anyone could expect in beforehand. The recruitment group of Poropetra has done a good job in a short time; the new drummer has now been founded. The new batterist of Poropetra is Lari Hammarberg, who is known also from a band Auringon hauta (ex-Solgrav). The man is skillfull drummer, thus we can expect strong rhythms and fills. Welcome to the band!

but New Drummer will play on new Album?? Or in Sinihirwi second print will change the sound becoming it Stronger than the last?? Of course the new drummer will play on the new album. No need to "remake" anything in Sinihirwi, as there isn't any particular need to "remake" songs in general. All music recording will come into the new songs, there's definitely no need to make a sleighride with the old fat, heh. New print is simpel as that - just a new print, because our previous print is sold out and we need to get more copies of it. People have asked for Sinihirwi so much.

Yes I have the first EP. Generally, I don't read the booklet before the first listening of an album to have the suprise. And when I have listened Sinihirwi, I have been disturbed (not negatively) by the difference between the first EP and Sinihirwi, principally by the voice of Elsa Pardonen (If I don't make mistake). Some seconde after, I have felt very good and aggreable sensation (and always when I listen both album). The voices complement each other.

The lead female vocals on Sinihirwi are sung by both Nancy and Elsa. The picture of Nancy doesn't show in the booklet of the first copy, since we didn't had her picture in time. Her picture will be in the second print of Sinihirwi. The difference between the first -MCD and Sinihirwi is very big, but the difference between Sinihirwi and our next album will be even much more bigger. There has been numerous changes in our musical style and our ways to express ourselves. And as there's been line-up changes too, it'll be seen in our songs also. But I better not say more, since I want the album be a little surprise for the fans also.

Virva is it possible having MCD as Original cd or I should to continue to have the copy made when you letted it on poropetra's website?? As I've already told many times along these three years: Poropetra -MCD is sold out. No copies hasn't been printed since the autumn 2005. That's the reason why we namely put the whole demo downloadable in to our website in the first place.

The search for the bass player has ended and one more member has been recruited in the Poropetra crew. The man is Leo Herranen and he plays also a contrabass. So the soundscape shall be yet more richer than before. Since we've now had numerous line-up changes and our style has also changed a lot, I'll introduce to you our new whole line-up: Nancy - vocals Elsa Pardonen - vocals Juha Jyrkäs - throat-singing, kantele Hittavainen - violin, jouhikko, torupill, mouth-harp, pipes, keyboards, background vocals Markus Ylikoski - electric guitar, background vocals Leo Herranen - bass, contrabass Lari Hammarberg - drums, percussions

It's about the logo/symbol of Poropetra. I have the jewel-poropetra around my neck and a lot of person are intrigued by it. I always need to explain that it is a reindeer (... that's right, no ?). Some week ago, a chinese women said me, if you turn the logo like this it looks like the chinese symbol of "ME" and in the past (lot of years) this same symbole represented the archer-soldier. I'm so curious to know if the poropetra-logo have other meaning in other country, civilisation...

It's about the logo/symbol of Poropetra. I have the jewel-poropetra around my neck and a lot of person are intrigued by it. I always need to explain that it is a reindeer (... that's right, no ?). The symbol is an ancient deer or elk symbol of the Finno-Ugric peoples. I've seen this symbol in the costumes of the Mari people and same kind of symbol can also be found in Karelian costumes. I found the symbol in the first place from the Finnish book Pikkujättiläinen (1955 print), which is somekind of large encyclopedia source about all sciences and things. I got this book from my father as I was 10 years old. In this book was the section concerning Finno-Ugric languages and there the symbol was. Fourteen years later - as the first Poropetra -MCD was out, I dug that book again in my hands, draw the symbol on the paper, modified it - and now it's transferred into the symbol of our band. It means the same as our name: Elk of Hiisi (Hiiden hirvi) from the Finnish mythology. Taivaanhirvi, Poropetra and Sinihirwi are all the synonyms of Elk of Hiisi. Elk of Hiisi is the powerful animal, who is hunted by the greatest hunter of all. The Elk of Hiisi runs into the sky and hunter chases him to there. They are still there; the zodiac signs of the elk and the hunter - according to the old Finnish and Sámi zodiac signs. When the hunter captures and kills the Elk of Hiisi, the earth shocks and sky falls to the ground; the end of the world. This is the story of Elk of Hiisi and it's told in the song Sinihirwi; it bases on a true runo-song from Karelia. Sky-Elk and hunter -theme is known also in everywhere all the way accross the Northern Eurasia; from Finland and Lapland into the farthest Siberia. I've even heard that even in ancient Persia the same kind of legend is known. I think the theme is quite an universal myth. To make a long story short: the symbol means thus Poropetra - the Elk of Hiisi. Some week ago, a chinese women said me, if you turn the logo like this it looks like the chinese symbol of "ME" and in the past (lot of years) this same symbole represented the archer-soldier. I'm so curious to know if the poropetra-logo have other meaning in other country, civilisation... This is interesting! I've never thought about that like this. But this is a good thing if one can find even more details and meanings from the symbol - from other cultures and countries.. Looking forward to what we can find next!
