waileyYou are the drummer of Kivimetsän Druidi!? That's cool, I like your band! When I had listened to metal for maybe 1 year, my friend gave me a cd by a band called Schandmaul. Well, Schandmaul is folkrock. I fell in love with that kind of music and discovered more and more folkrock and folkmetal bands (-> Korpiklaani ). I don't remember what the situation was like... But I often listen to music via internet and at the cd-store (after having read something about a band in a magazine), so maybe it was the same with Korpiklaani... ...Didn't sound very exciting!

Oh, I didn't see this thread so far. I discovered Korpiklaani through Socke! Haha! Last autumn/winter she was constantly talking about them so I decided to check them out. I expected something in the tradition of Ensiferum so I was a little disappointed at first cause I really liked (and still do) Ensiferum at that time. But after I while I got used to Korpiklaani's sound and when I saw them for the first time in Cologne in April I was really hit by their joyful live performance (I think Socke's also posted my live report from that show) ;D

I think the first time I heard them, was when my boyf sent me Happy Little Boozer. He had already sent me some King Diamond and Mercyful Fate (thinking I'd hate them) but shockingly for him I didn't. It's just sort of got worse and worse, the more songs he sent me. Now I think I'm only missing the 2005 album, really need to have words with the local music guys about getting it! Or it can wait til I go back to Finland, which might be easier, I kinda killed my bank account already buying one group's back catalogue .

My older brother got me into the older metal (Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest) when I was like 8 years old. It made for an interesting childhood About a year ago I was cruising around LiveJournal and someone posted a video by a Faroese band named Tyr. I checked it out, liked it a lot, and went out and bought their first album w/ Napalm Records, Eric the Red. I was most impressed by them and decided to hunt up some more bands of the "Viking Metal" genre. Checking out Napalm's site later on, I saw this band with really cool album art and a great-looking font (I know, it's silly, but my brain works that way). And I saw "korpi-" in the name and thought "Whoa, corpses! That's metal!" So I headed over to my MySpace, did a musician search for Korpiklaani, and heard "Happy Little Boozer" for the first time. Now I am hooked on the band and have since learned that Korpiklaani is not "Clan of Corpses" as I had originally thought. I've managed to get my wife to appreciate the band, which is no small feat considering she is a big AFI/30 Seconds to Mars/Gackt/Hyde fan. Hopefully someday we will be in Europe to see and hear them play. I'll stop rambling now.

I used a website called last.fm which analyzes your listening habits and then recommends bands based on what you listen to. One day I checked my account and Korpiklaani was the top band on my list. I downloaded a couple of tracks, I know that is not good, and really liked them so I went to the mall and had my friend who works at the cd store special order me a couple of Korpiklaani cd's. Korpiklaani is pretty much the only folkmetal band I listen to, I don't mind Finntroll but I don't think they are even close to Korpiklaani when it comes to talent.

This will be a long story..mostly because I enjoy telling long stories.
The love of loudness started when I was quite young, and I vividly remember my parents screaming at me, trying to be heard over the GN'R blasting from the stereo...I must have been 10 at the time.
Then it was mostly punk for some years, though I would still play the older metal, like Metallica, Pantera, Biohazard, all that.
Then one fateful day when I was living in Boston, about 3 years ago, I got completely disgusted with my work there and everything around me...and blasted a Dimmu Borgir song at top volume to air my frustrations. My (Belgian) flatmate came running into my room, beaming with happiness. He had no idea I enjoyed loud music too....we spent hours together listening to music on the net and from borrowed and bought cd's. Another friend of us had been into Viking metal for years and introduced us to Týr, which I immediately loved.
Then in March 2006 I was in Copenhagen for work, and I walked into Sexbeat Records and asked the guy for anything sounding remotely viking/folk-metal...I walked out again with a staggering stack of cd's, including Lumsk, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Thyrfing, Finntroll, Moonsorrow...and Korpiklaani.
By now, I've seen Týr perform live 4 times, and Korpiklaani only once...but I'm hoping to redress that balance in the future!

I was on Wikipedia one day looking at the Wintersun page, and I saw them as "Folk Metal". I wondered what that was so I looked at the page about Folk Metal. They listed Finntroll and Korpiklaani as some of the best for this style. I checked out Finntroll and I loved them. I just compleatly ignored Korpiklaani. One day, I got kinda sick of Finntroll so I checked out the Wikipedia page for Korpiklaani and looked at thier albums. I saw the track "Happy Little Boozer" and My reaction was "I have to hear this. " So I checked out that song. It was a great day! After that I bought every cd of thiers and they are now my favorite band.

I have always loved metal, but I discovered folk metal when my friend (a very serious hacker) showed me some Eläkeläiset one day. I researched into the whole humppa thing the next day.... and it went downhill from there.

Oh, I´ve been listeninig to metal since I´m 14 and I somehow always loved bands from Finnland, everything started with Nightwish many, many years ago. And then I discoverd Children of Bodom, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Sentenced and Finntroll. But then I´ve been not really into Folkmetal and so on. And I discoverd Korpiklaani more or less via chance in TV, when I´ve seen for the first time "Hunting Song" ;D I first thought: "strange band, but they sound great"...and after that I found myself dancing and headbanging in front of the TV-screen.

Well, I started to listen metal music when I was 10 years old, it was strange to see a little girl listen that kind of music in the town where I lived ;D. About folk-metal, it was last year, I was living the worst time of my life, I had a lot of problems, always too sad...too bad, but when my friend Gunnar told me about Korpiklaani, I started to have a smile in my face, all started to be ok, I found a job, new friends and I re-discovered beer , so, thanks Gunnar , and thanks Korpiklaani

I think the first bands I ever heard from viking metal were Bathory, Windir, Falkenbach, Ensiferum und Moonsorrow, because I was looking for something new inside black metal and a friend told me to listen to that bands. After that I started to search on my own, and about one or two years ago I found Korpiklaani.
